WOW - I watched this with my wife 3 yrs ago after getting orders to "Mtn Home, ID", this footage was so alien then. Now, we have days left before we PCS and I can say this has been an extraordinary assignment, so much greater than expectation as we exited I-84 the 1st time :) You just have to get out and explore!
Hi, Hardly anyone like it here at first until they leave and go to other palces, I was the same way, I cant see what more anyone would want the mtn's close for hunting exct
Boise just down the road, and a small peacefull town where we dont even lock our cars up at night. There is one thing we need to work on though is some things for the kids to do beside sports..
I was stationed there for 6.5 years. Came straight from the US Virgin Islands in the iddle of winter and saw snow for the first time. I didnt think Mt. Home was good or bad. I just went about my business and kept busy. I am stationed in England now and one thing I can tell you is that I would go back to Mt. Home in a heartbeat! I miss the sunny skies and four seasons. I also miss the outdoors. I miss alot I left behind.
Lived in Mtn Home for 9 years, bought my first house and both my kids were born on the base. Not that fond of Mtn Home at first but then ended up staying there longer than anticipated by choice! Many people I know said the same thing at first and ended up loving it. Had one troop come to Mtn Home and hated it. Five years later she got orders to Florida, now she wants to get back to Mtn Home. Retired from US Air Force and live in Boise now but it is always nice to go back from time to time.
Hi, You probley wont like it here at first I didnt but i wouuldnt live anywhere else now I Love it, it is a small town but only 40 miles from the city of Boise and 20 minutes form the beautilful Mountains, the weather is nice not much snow but plenty in the mountains Nice place to raise kids, although we do need to get some more things for the teens to do, It is My town and I wouldnt live anywhere else and I have been all over the world, Good Luck life is what you make it.
all the bad stuff about the town is why i love mountain home, theres such a gritty feel about it and i love it, i want to move back i think the people there need me, its so negative they need sumone they know to show sum serious agressive positivity, me going back to mountain home reminds me of this saying "you dance with the dead, you better be 10 times more deadly" .... this is ricky barningham and if you know me send me a message i miss you guys
mountain home seems like a right size town..im from custer county and it sucks...like in the middle of no where..but i love living right in the mtns. nice vid btw
since moving here 5 years ago I have invested myself into the community, schools and church and now call this town my home. I see beauty everywhere in this town you just need to be in the right places to find it. Check out my video with pictures of Mt Home..... (God of this City mt home Idaho) Enjoy
This town is terrible! The sunrises are nice, and hunting and fishing is about all there is to do. Boise is far away and it takes too much gas to get there on a regular basis. the town if brown and dirty and smells of cow shit most of the year due to the thousands of head of cattle pinned near by. The town locals are in the minority to the USAF personal, and they make it clear that they don't want us here but love our money. I am leave soon and not fast enough.
I wouldnt want to live anywhere else. We have a small safe town just 1 hour from Boise which is a lovely city and 20 minutes away from the moutains if you like hunting and fishing or camping, When i first came here i didnt like it but after going all over the place Isaw it is much better, it grows on you, you are right see the beauty.
My home town is Minot ND, and I decided to join the Air Force. I'm seriously considering putting in for an assignment at Mountain Home. Can some one give me some info about it. I want to hear the positive things about it. I've heard the negative things people say about Minot, and it just shows that they are not looking for the good, they come there with a neg. attitude.
@smezmerz I love Mt Home, we moved here about 5 years ago from Washington state and it has been a good move for me and my family. You have never seen such beautiful sunrises as here. I love the small town feel and Boise so close that has so much to offer. If you like outdoors stuff its great. We are not military but I have been on base several times and they have even more to enjoy. Beautiful golf course on base. My friend is in charge of activities out there and they have a great stuff
Wow! What a flashback. My husband was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Mountain Home from 1982-1986. Our house was right behind the library. (If it's still there). I think the street was North 11th East or something crazy like that. Lots of great camping and fishing everywhere in that state. Loved it.
i was so sceptical at first but out of the 27 states i've been to and the 13 contries i've been to overseas this is definalty the one with the coolest people!
Is that area around Mountain Home have a higher temperature year round than the rest of Idaho>i ask because everytime ive been there even in Jan and feb it always seemed warm there.I also noticed there a place called sun valley close by
i really miss that place. spent 4 of the greatest years there. miss all the mtn homies i hung out with, miss jumpin' juice (even though it became a realty place after i left) damn good place to just chill out and relax.
You are SOO right, its that way all over the world now small shops are on there way out, It was So nice when you could walk up town and go in and out of the little shops., i loved it at Christmas in the snow.
Mountain Home sucks. If it wasn't for the base, Mountain Home would be a ghost town with only old farts and nothing to do. Why do you think people drink or smoke Cannabis or do meth? HUH!?! Hahahaha, Mountain Home sucks. All of this, however is my opinion. Mrs. Rankin sucks, too.
Tell me then, what is there to do? Where is there to go? Bruneau, Grandview, Featherville, Boise, Glenns Ferry, do NOT count because they are NOT Mountain Home. Tell me, enlighten me, what good things are there in Mountain Home? Wal-Mart? Optimist Park? Legacy? Carl Miller? Tell me!! Haha.
I've lived here now for over 2yrs.This is the first time I've been out west, still haveing a hard time adjusting to liveing in the desert! It's kind of depressing looking out on the horizon outside of town and seeing nothing but dirt, dried up sage brush and maybe a few tumble weeds. On the positive side the skys are beautiful during sunset, you can see forever, there are no pescky trees to get in your way.
Hi, It isn't too pretty here in town but just go 20 miles toward the mountains and there is beauty out of this world, Anderson Dam has one of the BEST views in the world, You need to travel around there is so many great places close by, Sand Dunes City of rocks Too many to name,
We have a small town without the hassel but only a few miles if you want a big city or the Mountains, I think I live in the best place in the world and I have been all over the USA plus a lot of the other countries.
I was stationed at Mt Home in 72-73 and I must say I didn't recognize a thing hahahah..use to be a nice litle resteruant that served the best trout there
Im 16, and I was born and raised in mountain home.....i still live here....and i plan on graduating high school, going to college, having kids, and then bringing my kids back here in M-TOWN to live and be raised, because it is a good place to grow up.....you make your friends in elementary school, and you have the same friends and keep adding new ones when your in high school...there are some bad thinngs, but for the most part, it is a great town!
You are So right I have been all over the world and I love this the best, Most teens hate it and want to move away but they end up back here. I want to do a better one of it when I get time and get more of the town. Thank you for your comment you sound like a very smart teen.
Sorry you have such negative thoughts about a really great town. It's not the town so much as it's the people who are important and memorable. Sure wish you could have met the people I met there. Maybe you're hanging out in the wrong places.
Of course, I wouldn't know where those places are located but evidently you found them. So sorry!
All I can suggest is try harder and look deeper! Oh and ALL the young people I knew there graduated from high school by the way and turned out to be wonderful adults!
Great Video! I lived in Mountain Home for several years, now i live in Meridian........I miss the peacefulness and no traffic!! Thanks for posting this video :)
They are finally resurfacing American Legion avenue! Thrifty auto has moved into the old Auto ranch/Grant Peterson (dodge) building. The Auto Ranch is now in the old K-Mart, seriously renovated.
What they did to American Legion could not be considered Resurfacing. More like, Throwing a shit ton of little rocks all over the road, great for putting chips in my windshield. oh and SCREW YOU TROOPER IVY!!!!
I agree - plus that's an awesome town to live in. Awesome people there. They're all the BEST ! ! ! But one HAS to ask, "Home on what Mountain?" ;-)) Photographer does great work. Thanks, Val - for the photo memories and to see what's new!
