A better infinite water supply is make a 3 long, 1 wide and 1 deep hole. And fill the 2 ends with source blocks. Take an empty bucket and fill it with water from the middle source block thats created. It automaticly refills without having to move blocks or gravel around.
@DemonAMVs It has a little flaw though - you have to take middle source block or else the supply won't refill. With 2x2 hole you can take any of the 4 source blocks.
@DemonAMVs the gravel isnt needed in anything here . I think he used it just to easily show where to place things, or water was just stupid back then. go beta
for minecraft 2, they should really let us fish. It'd be awesome a good food source, but as we all know, fish is most abundant at night, so the catch for a great food source is to fish at night with all the creepers. And then we can have the option to connect the ocean to our own homemade creeks. just a lil sumthing for Minecraft 2, itd be nice cuz porkchops gets boring.
EXCELLENT VIDEO.... I play on a server where water and lava buckets are prohibited, so I held off a long time on my "rock cut" channel because it would have been a pain in the butt for the mods to fill it with water. Thanks to your video (the last example) I got it done super fast and the mods were more than happy to help out. Cheers!
For once some a half decent tutorial, that has information that I found USEFUL.
Thanks for this, found it mighty helpful - Sick to death of 10 year old kids making tutorials, with shit quality mics and terrible music blasting in the background.
Even if this is an older video. Still seems odd as hell to use solid blocks to lay out a pattern, fill it in with water and then remove the solid blocks.
If your having trouble finding water in the first place then go to an area of the sea or some other non-flowing body of water. Find a part that is only one block deep and in-circle one block of the water with dirt or whatever. You can then pick up that one block of water that is surrounded. I use it when I've found iron but cant find any free flowing water sources yet.
Ah, cool, this helps. Ive got a small "fishing hole" below my house, so I could probably find a way to manipulate that into a system of canals to take me wherever.
You actually don't *need* to block off the flowing water before placing a water source block, you can just put a water source block into the flowing water AFAIK
There is an easier way to make one, and with that one the chance to take the water-spawner will be lower. Make 3 holes in a row in a vertical line, and put water in the 2 at the side. Now you can take infinite water from the middle. For extra security, place a sign that tells you to take from the middle only.
A xtreme0ninja said you don't actually need the gravel to do this.
When filling a lake I would say it's easier and faster to do every second block on one side and every second on right angle side. A bit like you did with the canal. Same number of water blocks total to place but no need for gravel, no need to go into the water and you only need to start with 2 buckets as you will have infi-water after those and can just keep picking it up as you go.
@Mcgreag Yeah, that method should work admirably too. Whether it uses less water is dependent on the configuration of your canal/lake/etc.
Re: gravel, as stated in the description, I wanted this video to be applicable for singleplayer and multiplayer. At the moment, the only way to get water working in multi is the Llamacraft server mod, and that doesn't *quite* emulate the water in singleplayer perfectly. Thus, the gravel.
Any issues with water seemingly sinking into the ground and evaporating when following your initial instructions to a T? No matter how many times I try, the water just seeps back into the ground. I'm pulling water from a still pool - the ocean, near the spawn.
@sYs73m To get water working properly in Multiplayer, your server needs to be running the Llamacraft mod, which provides fixes for both lava and water buckets. Otherwise it'll be exactly as you describe. I've updated the description to incorporate this.
@internetrage the square is easier because you don't have to aim at the middle square of the 3x1. they both take the same amount of water input, and the square outputs 4 infinite sourceblocks to the 3x3's 1 infinite sourceblock. So the square is simpler, and more efficient.
Repeat for infinite water. The sea is going bankrupt! LOL

You only need two buckets- fill one block, fill the one next to it, pick it up, then fill the next block, and repeat.

@OakHeart32 if you want that start with 1 deep flat and make the second layer with the same method and so on
water will not make source blocks if it has air or any other non full block

@Lolligator or you can make it 2x2 with 1 second of extra effort, and never be able to accidentally take the source out.

you dont need to block it off to put another water source. you can just dump it right in where you want it, even if theres water flowing there.

You can make the initial infinite pool a bit easier - instead of 2x2, dig 3x1, put water source blocks at each end, and take from the middle.
