I love the way Gene tosses the VVI album off to the side and says zero about it!! Vinnie was an idiot then and made it worse when he sued KISS for unfounded claims of defamation. He claimed in the suit in KISSTORY the inside cover had Peter Criss' comic book character calling him a "wacko wizzard" but that really came from the second comic book in the 70's, LONG before VV was involved in KISS. VV's lawyers screwed up big time on that one, I hope KISS got attorney fees for a frivoluous lawsuit.

The "wacko wizard" comment was from one of the Marvel KISS comics, published well before VV was ever in KISS. That panel was reprinted on the inside cover of KISSTORY. VV and his attorneys claimed the term "wacko wizard" in KISSTORY was defamatory, failing to realize it existed long before Vinnie's KISS character. The allegation was baseless.

Gene Simmons has always been about making money. There's nothing wrong with that. I think it's pure genius the way he has handled things. You know the difference between Gene Simmnons/KISS and the other bands of the 1970's? KISS still owns their rights to their music and brand-name. Why is it a bad thing if they make lots of money? And you must not be a longtime fan if you don't already know that KISS has been marketing their name on everything since the 70's. Not new.

So as a last gesture they released "Alive" and then the money began to come in because it sold big time.

After that, they (meaning, the publishing companies of the various members of the band, not necessarily KISS) still have publishing control of their catalog, which includes only Carnival Of Souls, Psycho Circus and Sonic Boom. Note all albums up to Revenge have Hori Productions or HoriPro as the publishing entity. As for the label, that's distribution, not publishing rights.

I have to disagree. I do think Paul Stanley IS KISS. Gene's in the background doing his own thing and only comes out long enough to put on the demon make-up for a tour or one-off ehre and there, but it's not fair to criticize him for doing what he wants to do. As for merch, Paul has equal say in it, but chooses to let Gene do what is done. Ergo, the state of KISS today, as you describe it, is not all Gene's fault. But BOTH Gene and Paul have every right to do whatever they want. Period.
