Jesus related to the crowd at hand. It is obvious that He related to this crown, whether it is seen as sacreligious or not. Jesus usually didn't care about what people thought when He chose to reveal Himself. If you look throughout the crowd, there are many who do not know Him. I think Steve nailed it in a modern way. I guess I see it from a non-legalistic way.
