No way should this guy strangle a child. Should this child be playing. Probably not. I have three kids and they can't play online. It's inappropriate for them. If my child ever talked the way some of these kids talked I would whoop their asses. Parents need to take responsibility and know what their children are doing. My kid has been playing COD since he was 7. He is a totally normal kid and I have his xbox settings set to "friends only" for chat. All his friends are my friends and I know them all my life. He is excellent COD player and has real talent for gaming. We enjoy going online togther and playing in opposing teams (he likes to shoot me, cant understand why!). Playing has helped bring us closer together, costly though as we have to buy two copies of all the games we play.

I am old, 37. I have an almost 9 year old and I let him play CoD, he has his own Xbox. However, I set up him up a password protected minor account. The only people that can talk to him or that he can talk to are people approved by his mom or myself. It's actually pretty nice, no one is ever talking shit in his lobby because he can't here them. Fucking brilliant! I almost want my own minor account.

My opinion on younger people playing online games like Call of Duty is that any younger then 12 is to young but 12-15 should be allowed to play the game in a casual way in public but once you hit around 16-17 allow kids the freedom to play on their own because unless their going to some super private school where children are beaten for language their going to know everything they hear online already

I would let my kid play but i would tell him he had to mute in game chats and he wouldn't be able to talk to people online unless they were his friends online that he actually knows in real life. I don't have a problem with that because its how i play the game almost never use my mic unless i am talking to people i actually know.
I also think that some association would help too. I don't think the problem is the game, it's the chat that goes on (which I'm sure you agree.)
I think if you were to play with the kids and demonstrate to them that the more trash that is talked, the worse that you get at the game, it can have a small (but effective) impact. "That guy's talking trash, he's probably terrible, only terrible people talk trash and lose control of themselves" etc
And yeah, I really do think it hinders people socially when they've been able to talk trash without any consequence.
But I really do think it comes down to how the children are raised... Some will fight back online and get all crazy, and I think others will ignore/mute people who are acting ridiculous. We all get a little heated some time - but once you play WITH your kids and show them how they should react to such people, it'll be really easy to influence them. Teach them to mute promptly

Anyway, one of my biggest problems with little kids is that they use language and they don't know what the words mean. I think this story is hilarious. That incident would have made an epic YouTube video. I have seen both wee lads and teenagers and young adults to shit. I have seen little kids do many hacks and cheats and adults use Ghost and Second Chance. All of them use the foul language.

No way should this guy strangle a child. Should this child be playing. Probably not. I have three kids and they can't play online. It's inappropriate for them. If my child ever talked the way some of these kids talked I would whoop their asses. Parents need to take responsibility and know what their children are doing. My kid has been playing COD since he was 7. He is a totally normal kid and I have his xbox settings set to "friends only" for chat. All his friends are my friends and I know them all my life. He is excellent COD player and has real talent for gaming. We enjoy going online togther and playing in opposing teams (he likes to shoot me, cant understand why!). Playing has helped bring us closer together, costly though as we have to buy two copies of all the games we play.

I do know that you can obtain IP addresses and find people but it's not easy. I meet people near me all the time because I use locale only. I am old, 37. I have an almost 9 year old and I let him play CoD, he has his own Xbox. However, I set up him up a password protected minor account. The only people that can talk to him or that he can talk to are people approved by his mom or myself. It's actually pretty nice, no one is ever talking shit in his lobby because he can't here them. Fucking brilliant! I almost want my own minor account.

the content is a bit too mature for a 13 year old and it is definately a game that makes you aggressive, so you can imagine a kid with a lot of time on their hands becoming aggressive and desensitized to violence.....not a good mix imo lol. My opinion on younger people playing online games like Call of Duty is that any younger then 12 is to young but 12-15 should be allowed to play the game in a casual way in public but once you hit around 16-17 allow kids the freedom to play on their own because unless their going to some super private school where children are beaten for language their going to know everything they hear online already

I would let my kid play but i would tell him he had to mute in game chats and he wouldn't be able to talk to people online unless they were his friends online that he actually knows in real life. I don't have a problem with that because its how i play the game almost never use my mic unless i am talking to people i actually know.

I also think that some association would help too. I don't think the problem is the game, it's the chat that goes on (which I'm sure you agree.)
I think if you were to play with the kids and demonstrate to them that the more trash that is talked, the worse that you get at the game, it can have a small (but effective) impact. "That guy's talking trash, he's probably terrible, only terrible people talk trash and lose control of themselves" etc

And yeah, I really do think it hinders people socially when they've been able to talk trash without any consequence.
But I really do think it comes down to how the children are raised... Some will fight back online and get all crazy, and I think others will ignore/mute people who are acting ridiculous. We all get a little heated some time - but once you play WITH your kids and show them how they should react to such people, it'll be really easy to influence them. Teach them to mute promptly

Arguing with people online or even in the game is pointless, and it doesn't make ANY sense to get upset over it. It's his fault for letting a 13-year-old manipulate him into taking illegal actions, and pretty pathetic

Anyway, one of my biggest problems with little kids is that they use language and they don't know what the words mean. They called my cousin a douche bag once and I asked if they even knew what that meant and they said no. Also, wee lads like to use cheats and glitches like lag switching and they hack the game a lot. So many little kids like to hack COD4. It's a shame.

I'm 15 and try my best not to say shit. I always have my mic off and the voice volume to 0 when I'm playing by my self and I mute everyone but my friends if I play with friends. I think this story is hilarious. That incident would have made an epic YouTube video. I have seen both wee lads and teenagers and young adults to shit. I have seen little kids do many hacks and cheats and adults use Ghost and Second Chance. All of them use the foul language.
