@wtfoof Many. Many. Galileo, in case you have not heard, was not ousted because his theory was wrong necessarily. The Church merely demanded Galileo provide evidence for his theory. He needed technology that was not yet available at the time to prove his theory, so he couldn't. Yet he continued to teach it. Throw in some politically charged Italian nobles into the mix who are like the modern Republicans and not like the Church at all, and BAM! you get Galileo under house arrest!
