  • Fuck cancer!

  • A great teacher has left us...

  • rip hitchens

  • Dont understand Hitchens reasoning here..he says there's a load of NOTHING heading our way ! Well, certainly the Andromeda Galaxy is SOMETHING ! What does he mean ?

  • @brindow1 The nothing that he's talking about is that the universe is expending faster and faster and in another 15-20 billion years, or however long, even the constituent parts of matter down to the sub atomic level will fly apart and everything will cease to exist. There will be nothing. The Andromeda Galaxy was a separate point, not related to the coming nothing.

  • @brindow1 The line about, "so much nothingness is built right in and heading right for us," is about the inevitability of our extinction by whatever means, including evolving into something we ourselves would not recognize as being human any longer. This is the nothing he's talking about.

  • gawd damn I wish George Carlin and Christopher Hitchens went on tour sometime during Carlin's lifetime!

    They're both BRILLIANT and HILARIOUS!

    =3

  • there is no something from nothing ,that is nonsense ,everything came from a singularity

  • @spinlessbastard1 The space comes after the comma.

  • @SpellboundSolution well spotted, now of you go and look for more typo errors, you sad little person you :)

  • @spinlessbastard1 Ooh smileys, the sign of the sophisticated man, you :)

  • @SpellboundSolution yes it is ,isnt it :) now of you go, you silly pup you, and fumble at someone elses mind.

  • @spinlessbastard1 Yes it is, isn't it? Now off you go you silly pup you (?), and fumble at someone else's mind.

  • @spinlessbastard1 goin tit 4 tat neither one really wins, time 2 just take a deep breathe and ignore. others who read will c the conversation as it is and u don't hav 2 make ur point, ur original comment does it 4 u just fine and any1 who sees the comment knows that sellboundsolution is just being a d*ck

  • @cruelbusiness1984 y not ur lern english?

  • So glad I left that nonsense called religion in my childhood :-)))

  • I always wonder, if religion doesn't kill us first, what our species will excel to and look like in a billion years!...

    =3

  • @TAz69x I've thot that birds might b the next 2 evolve in2 greater intelligence, more specifically parrots, because of their learning capabilities and natural affinity 4 language.

  • I trust that the Astronomer Royal understands the matter far more than me, but I don't understand how the beings on this earth in the future can be so different to us- surely our modern medicine has slowed down evolution considerable, as people who have inherited unfavourable genes are much less likely to die? I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me on this.

  • @Niflheim13 populations having 2 adapt 2 climate changes, geting separated from other parts. the introduction of medicine coupled with the rediscovery of humans on every planet and our continued interactions with each other, tell me with my understanding of evolution that 4 us it has slowed significantly in some areas. our height is increasing and our knowlegde and technology is increasing. that is an evolution of sorts.

  • Id love to debate Hitchens just so i could tell everyone, "hey, i got my ass handed to me by Hitch yesterday." It would be something to pass down to my children.

" Yeah kids, i debated with that man right there, got my ass handed to me in the first 3 minutes." It would be great, everyone pointing, that guy right there debated Hitch and lasted 3 minutes, i want his autograph! lol. Cheers Hitch and to all the brilliant minds on YT, my education started a year ago on here, not in Kindergarten!

  • Hi, If your an atheist as am I, please check out my channel, where I'll be assessing major issues our society is facing in terms of religion and basic ethics... As well as the occasional video game content as I am a bit of a gamer..

I hope you'll check it out. Cheers, Mitchel

  • Mohammad is well thought to have been an epileptic, that's why Hitchens uses the term. It's said that his prophecies occurred during fits which, based on their descriptions, have led physicians to concur that he suffered from a form of epilepsy.

  • @Fortozero like when the angel 'squeezed' him. hallucinations account for some warped view of an angel. it all makes sense from a medical standpoint but word of god? no.

  • i thought the 100,000 or 200,000 number was just the age of our first common ancestor (mitochondrial eve) and not the age of our species?

  • @nickleus1977 the evolution of our species was so gradual thru out history that its difficult 2 say, this is the point where this creature is now separate species. our ancestral specie didn't die out, they morphed in2 us over time

  • @cruelbusiness1984 right, i understand the concept of evolution, i was just using the estimations i've found elsewhere: mitochondrial eve ca. 140,000 ybp, homo sapiens ca. 200,000 ybp.

  • I wonder what life would be like today if the big bang was actually turned into dogma.

  • @Testifyexe mayb healthier mentally, who knows? the children would b free 2 think more logically

  • So we almost missed the big bang?

  • your voice sounds almost exactly like Barry Eaton, Radio Out There

  • i got it from my head. i understand what you're saying but i don't buy it! the complex life forms we have today must be closer to one another due to that very complexity, whereas the simpler life forms oweing to their simplicity need only one change or mutation to become something that is in essence markedly different, however such change is less relevent/telling/apparent when greater complexity ie: the complex must by its nature must share a mirrored level of complexity up to a point, i think!

  • no no he makes a mistake here... evolution is really like an expoential curve in reverse ie: while the possibilities may indeed be infinite, they still fit into an order of nature which can be divided further yet each division or diversion/variation is less than that of its predecessor.. one may thin of the beginning as a whole number 1 and as the years pass and evolution makes its mark, this number becomes fractions of the original - so we will not be 'as different from life 6 million years on'

  • @rugbyboy198127 Where did you get that from? The genetic codes of all creatures have always used the same four bases and are endlessly reshuffled and mutated through evolution. The number of different possible lifeforms is the same now as it's always been.

The 'exponential curve' idea just doesn't make sense - if the possibilities are infinite their numbers can't be reduced at all. I'm not sure they are infinite but I imagine the number is so vast that 3 billion years barely scrapes the surface

  • "Schizophrenics and epileptics"? I get the "schizophrenic" part, but which Biblical / Koranic / Talumdian / Buddhist characters were epileptic?

  • @vau0807

Watch any faith healing for example.

  • One thing that irritates me the most is that I do not understand his english. I know what words he is saying I know how to spell them but I just can't understand his complicated english......Desert revelations to schizophrenics and epileptics.... I don't understand that ............ sucks to have english as a second language

  • @OkWheresMyMonkey , only creationists believe in a 6000-10000 year old earth

  • I am disappointed in Hitchens, there are two factual errors in this part.

It was Hubble who noticed that the galaxies were moving apart, it was Kraus who noticed that the acceleration was increasing.

And Mark Twain said that of the Mormons, not the Christian Scientists.

  • Oh, take it easy.

  • @PinkandDeadly True. I think that he needs to be drinking more to really get himself squared away. His points are well taken nevertheless.

  • @audiophile71 And also, Stanley Kramer (not Stanly Kubrick) directed and produced "On the Beach"

  • Yea, in the other hitchens debates he gets it correct, this is the only time ive heard him slip up

  • You know, I always like "Star Trek" because they almost never referred to god.

  • @josephortizgarcia It was the most secular show ever produced in America IMO.

  • Infact in the original series they confront god and tell him what they think of him lol. Gotta love gene roddenberry

  • @josephortizgarcia Q killed god.

    =3

  • can't you put all these on a playlist?

  • watch?v=UTrVPaoLuu8&feature=PlayList&p=AAD905203F84B70A&index=72&playnext=2&playnext_from=PL

  • @Ellie8969 Just make one :P It doesn't take long

  • Hitchens says that we know for sure that Andromeda galaxy is going to collide with our own galaxy. But I thought that is not proven and the final verdict is still out on that one.

  • Could you repeat that in English, please, you fucking moron?

  • Hitchens ='s Living Legend !

  • Haha, 'If you like, I'll make it dogma!'

  • Who was it he referenced at 1:17 about the idea of humans not being the ones watching the sun die? I can't make out the name.

  • Martin Reese

  • My thanks.

  • Sir Martin Rees

  • @TenArchbishops : He's refering to an evolved human species, represented in animal species too. In billions of years from now we will change, in our civilization and common society, we will think and look differently, its evidently inevitable...much like we have ancestors from cave-humans...

  • Cutthroat and uncompromising... as by god it should be, as it needs to be and as we are morally obliged to present our argument of sense and reason at ever turn. Stick it to them...

  • Desert revelations to schizophrenics and epileptics - rotfl, priceless.

  • not exactly sure what epilepsy has to do with desert dogma...

  • @ParadigmaticShift

I think hitchens is intimating that Moses was an epileptic - not sure about that one either.

  • No! he means Moses was scizophrenic and Mohamed was epileptic (i know the latter is true and the first most likely .)

  • Cutting your kids throat and thowing him on the barbee because you heared voices in your head - THATS SCIZOPHRENIA. Abrahans your guy.

  • @trav02852 Humorous, yes. Disrespectful mockery? Also, yes.

  • @trav02852 i'm an epileptic and have never once had a revelation from any deity...

  • @doaftheloaf Thats because you're not schizophrenic.

  • Christopher Hitchens owns all noobs.

  • QFT

  • "Thought that the Catholic Church was the anti-christ, may have been onto something"

    LOL...Another gem for C.H.

  • The Twain quote was about The Book of Mormon, but in CH's defense, Twain was reviewing the work of Mary Baker Eddie when he wrote that.

It's possible (probably?) that he thought it about Christian Science first, and then, in the drafting, shifted the object of his sentence to something less politically palatible.

  • that twain quote was actually about the book of mormon, fyi.

  • hitchens deserves the peace prize as well as dawkins, krauss, and thompson and all are at the for front of saving humanity

  • Oh Thomson really is something. That lecture 'Band of Brothers' lecture exploring the evolutionary reasons for suicide terrorism was just incredible. The three lectures I've seen on the Dawkins YouTube channel were all great. Krauss' Energy of Nothing one was also brilliant too - very funny as well.

  • Not really. Hitchens has also been one of the most cynical proponents and defenders of the unfair, immoral, unjust Iraq war.

  • Yeah your right - the world should have just let Iraqi and Kurd civilians rot.

    You are a fucking idiot.

It was undertaken by an idiotic uncivilized bunch of Neocons for sure, but if Obama wanted to invade Iraq to liberate it's people i would have backed it also.

Let North Koreans rot in a brainwahed hell also? Is that what you advocate?

  • It was for oil? Why is your country in a financial mess now if you were going over there to make it rich?

Yes, you are the big brains here.

I bet your think 9/11 was an inside job too.

    Fucktard.

  • God, you're one stupid bastard. I said it was to make some very rich, old guys, even richer. It had nothing to do with helping people, either here or there. Learn to read, you stupid, ignorant piece of shit.

  • You supplied nothing but a statement that people made money in war.

There is profit for someone in EVERY war you retard.

Show me how leaving Saddam in charge HELPS people more than removing him?

I suppose we are also in Afghanistan for the lack of oil?

Course i dont expect much from ill educated moreons.

  • for fuck sake, LImbaugh? What a straw man.

You sir are the fucking imbecile, how am i contradicting?

You have supplied no statements to contradict mine besides read and other useless insults.

    Got any more gems?

  • liberalviewer1, what a laugh.

  • I do not argue against the carrying out of the Iraq War, but its follow up; on the basis that the US is not doing enough the make Iraq an autonomous nation, but is tying down Iraqi independence by inflluencing its politicians and ministries. The US has also undermined popular leftist labour parties and unions by moving Iraqi economy toward a neo-liberal open market position, reducing the ability of local Iraqi industries to compete and increase the wealth of Iraqi's.

  • Additionally, the US is relying to Private Military Contractors (a glorified term for mercenaries), to carry out much of its security agenda with public development projects- these paramilitary troops have been charged with many war crimes but are immune from prosecution or subpoena (see Jeremy Scahill's book called Blackwater:The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army). For the lack of Iraqi autonomy, see: The Military Side of Globalization, by Stephen Zunes (its on the internet).

  • Ohh.. private, then it must be evil.. ohh.

  • If by private, you mean unaccountable to US forces and immune from Iraqi and international law, then yes, that is a kind of evil. Once again, I refer you to Jeremy Scahill's book for more on this issue (see my previous comments).

  • That's because he sees it primarily as a war against religion.

  • Yes, he does. He was wrong, wasn't he?

  • I hope he's right, but I'm undecided. It may be too early to say.

  • very well said DR

  • @DRogers1082 I find it interesting that followers of Hitchens and Dawkins treat these guys like gods. It's just like Bob Dylan said: "It might be the devil, or it might be the Lord, but you're gonna have to serve somebody."

  • @jrichard1977 I heard respect and admiration was not the same as worship? C/D?

    Stop being an idiot.

  • @jimjamgumbob OK, I will stop being an idiot. :) Thanks for the heads up.

  • @jrichard1977 You're welcome (:

I would like an answer though.

  • @jimjamgumbob I didn't totally understand your question, to be honest. Can you rephrase?

  • @jrichard1977 Unless I misunderstood you (and I apologise if I did) you claimed "we worship them like gods" I asked if you considered worship and respect the same thing.

Like I said if I misunderstood you I apologise but one gets used to pure idiocy on youtube comments and finds it hard to tell the difference.

  • @DRogers1082 - No-one who is so strongly in favour of the war in Iraq will be awarded any peace prize.

  • i believe hitchens deserves the noble peace prize as well as , Dr,andy thompson, Dr.lawrence krauss, and Dr.richard dawkins are on the front of hope for humanity
