@baggen44 It's a Bellanca 31-40 seaplane, it made it's first flight just some six years before The Crab With the Golden Claws was made. The one in the comic book also has it's wheels fitted so it could also land on ground.

@pirre87 Here's an idea, Watch it first *then* decide if it's a piece of shit. Your irrational hate of something you haven't even watched because it has brit actors is ridiculous and offensive.
@Thesixthgoon No its offensive to have brit actors in something that is Belgian, would you like it if James bond was French all of a sudden? me thinks not.
@pirre87 To be honest, I couldn't give a damn as long as the product was good. You are dismissing something without seeing if it's good. U-571 for example. That film was all American despite the story they used to create the film was actually British. I didn't mind as it was a decent film, it's the story that mattered.
@pirre87 the last samurai,10000 bc,last of the mohicans, dances with wolves, pathfinder, blood in blood out,TEKKEN,Street fighter legend of Chun lee,Avartar the last Airbender,Dragon ball,300,Prince of Persia,Sparticus,Gladiator to name a few..Caucasian people have been stealing roles of other races for years e.g the white Kid who plays Ang(avatar) Goku(DB) Bison(street fighter legend of chun lee blah blah)or centering the movie around them amongst the native nation.but oh no thats not offensive...
@pirre87 And I'm British and have lived all over Europe! So what? I KNOW that Tintin is Belgian and will always BE Belgian to me... So relax and try seeing it as a hommage to hergé and Tintin! And a way of introducing that super awesome series to people who DO NOT know it! And no one's forcing you to watch it
@pirre87 You need to understand that the 'Brits and Yanks' are not trying to claim it as their own, they're trying to enable the world to experience the genius of Tintin.
I've loved the comics since I was little, and my dad before me. I'm also British. Does that make me any less of a fan than you?
Hey. This could actually be good. If it was produced with real stunts and no CGI. Notice the way they made the guy fall on the cat at 0:48, he hits the cat then the motion stops for sec and then he "decides" to fall. How can anyone suspend disbelief for the rest of the movie when basic stuff like that makes you go "what kind of cheap CGI garbage this is? oh wait it is cheap CGI garbage"...
@fourbarposer he actually fell because the cat lowered himself. He didn't fall because he was blocked, and then the cat made him fall. Watch carefully at 0:48.
@laurapodkapova That was the oroginal plan, with only Snowy (Milou) as computer generated, but when Peter Jackson and Weta came on board it soon changed to doing all the actors with motion capture instead. Along the way, after all principal photography was shot it was also decided that it should be in 3D as well.
So it's been changed quite a bit since the project first got under way in 2007. The first movie studio, Universal, even bailed out, and Paramount and Sony/Columbia came to the rescue.
@alfsal67 You are right. Moreover shooting the film in live action would not have created the world Herge had created. It would have appeared too plastic and fake. Shooting in motion capture gives you a sense of the actual environment that was created in the book.
@laurapodkapova To tell you the truth, I think MoCap was needed for this film if you want to keep it to look like the art style of the Tintin comics, plus it seems that MoCap has offically went passed the border of "uncanny vally".
no,motion capture is amazing and gets way more attention than real actors and real actors are in this, they put actors in suits and sense its almost impossible to make movements realistic
@laurapodkapova i think its pretty amazing how this movie is done... i mean c'mon, its peter jackson and steven spielberg, they have to do something amazing, they can't settle for anything less, it almost made me mad when i saw spielberg behind this just because he almost overdoes things, but they can do so much more interesting stuff this way, and they can have so much more of an "adventure" without using real actors. :) im downloading all the old cartoons now
@alfsal67 I actually think that it still takes place in Brussels. If you look closely at 1:54, the shop window says Agent de Voyage, which is French. I think the British accents are to give a more European feel to the English version of the film, quite simply.
i also noticed they are adding parts from other comics. i LIKE that. Steven Moffat and edgar wright have chosen action sequences to enhance the original story.
I don't mind ANY fine tuning they do to improve the story when bringing it to the big screen!
OMG OMG OMG DID I JUST SEE THE NAME'S STEVEN MOFFAT AND STEVEN SPEILBERG IN THE SAME CREDITS AT THE END!?!?!?!??!?! CANOT WAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D @2:16
OMG OMG OMG DID I JUST SEE THE NAME'S STEVEN MOFFAT AND STEVEN SPEILBERG IN THE SAME CREDITS AT THE END!?!?!?!??!?! CANOT WAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
@Sunsetsmiles3 Only sort of. In french, the original language of the comic, his name is Milou and here in Sweden he is also known as Milou, in Germany they call him Struppi. So Snowy isn't really his name, just his name in english. The dog is named after Hergé's old girlfriend Marie-Louise who was called/nicknamed Milou.
So it's all depending in what language you read the comic. Milou, Snowy, Struppi, Terry, Bobbie and so on, all same dog different languages.
One thing that really annoyed me in this are the english names for Milou and Dupond&Dupont (Snowy, Thompson&Thomson)...they really should have used the original names in the movie.
@Balnazzardi Those are the "original" names from the English tranlations. Why produce the film in English if you're going to use the Belgian names? English-speaking people who read the comics would just be confused.
I'm sure the names will be changed in the French dubs.
@AmberGirL87 Then go watch some ADHD Transformers....not every damn movie is about big explosions, big epic fights and stuff like that...have you ever even read Tintin comics?
Not only is this movie being made by fans- it's being made by fans who actually know what they're DOING :)
There's no way they could screw up this movie. They've wanted to make this movie for years, so they've had plenty of time to craft this masterpiece.
Yeah, I wanted the toony look, but when I see Captain Haddock, the Tom/Thompsons (How do you plural them when their names are spelled differently?) I'm like "omg that's them!!"
Did the include scenes from the other comics, like when Haddock gets drunk and burns the oars, then the plane comes and tintin manages to damage it, that was from the Crab with the golden Claws, not to mention other scenes as well, also it seems that tintin and haddock met in the secret of the unicorn, although in the comics they actually met in the crab with the golden claws, whats up with all mixing of the comics :o
@sharangcool N.B. The film spans the series from The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Shooting Star, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure. :) They've got it stop on, you need not worry. They're just doing 4 books in one film. And I think they chose the best ones suited for film. Thumbs Up so others know this. :)
Doesn't cover The Shooting Star, just Crab, Unicorn, and Rackham. If you want good info on the movie, check out tintinology.poosk.com. Great blog that has covered the film since it announcement
just crab with the golden claws and secret of the unicorn ..not shooting star ..and if you remember, the treasure hunt in red rackham's treasure is completely inconsequential cuz the treasure is still in england ..so that part is cut out
@adilahmed93 Or in fact still in Belgium if one should be really correct. The setting of the Tintin stories in England was done by the english translators Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper and Michael Turner, in the original and most other languages the comic is set in Brussels and Belgium. As far as I know, the british translation is the only one that re-situates the series somewhere else.
It's the british translation used for the US editions also.
when dealing with making a book to a movie, directors usually change some stuff to make it into a movie.
If they find some stuff useless, or some stuff drags on too much, they remove the part and tweak it with their own thing, for example look at the Lord of the Rings (by Peter Jackson) Trilogy.
@sharangcool Well the things is that Spielberg said that they couldnt have made proper movie using only one of those comic, so they had to combine two...and now that I read again both of those comics, he is kind of right.
@sharangcool this films script is based on three of the books storylines: the crab with the golden claw, secret of the unicorn and red rackhams treasure. hope that helped
@sharangcool They're mixing Crab With the Golden Claws into the film, so as to explain how Tintin comes to know Haddock. That's also why Sakharine seems to be the bad guy. It looks like they're getting rid of the Bird Brothers.
@sharangcool According to websites with information about the movie, the movie includes the books 'The Crab with the Golden Claws', 'The Secret of the Unicorn', and 'Red Rackham's Treasure', even though the movie is titled 'The Adventures of tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn'.
Weak... bad facial animation and looks too much like that Robert Zemeckis Mo-cap crap. I think it will do well over seas where Tin Tin is well known but I think here in North America it will be the equivalent of professional soccer. I hope I'm wrong though.

As far as I know, the british translation is the only one that re-situates the series somewhere else.
It's the british translation used for the US editions also.

@sharangcool the film covers both 'the crab with the golden claws' and 'the secret of the unicorn'.

@sharangcool
when dealing with making a book to a movie, directors usually change some stuff to make it into a movie.

For release dates in your country see link in description box below clip.
Guess Red Rackham (Daniel Craig) will be seen first in later trailers.

Weak... bad facial animation and looks too much like that Robert Zemeckis Mo-cap crap. I think it will do well over seas where Tin Tin is well known but I think here in North America it will be the equivalent of professional soccer. I hope I'm wrong though.

@keewatin427 bad facial animation? they used actors for facial motion capture... its not like they could have animated it poorly...

@keewatin427
I agree, it looks like they didn't make it cartoony enough. That motion capture kind of ruins it.
