  • I have a suggestion. As you have to reverse on your driveway anyway, why don't you back into the garage then drive out forward? You won't have to brake reversing uphill. Have owned a Mazda 2 now for 18 months and am delighted with it. One small knock from the back which was fixed under warranty quickly. Would not hesitate to buy another Mazda.

  • WTF is that video !?!?! Got it for 1 years and I didn't hear that.... just when I was on hand brake once... stupid video.......

  • Things could always be worse.....you could have bought a Hyundai! My Mazda 2 has never had this issue and even if it did I would still rather have it over the other makes.

  • brakes do that, drum brakes are even more prone to it. especially if they are dusty or over heated from abuse or constant hard stopping. I've had this proble on several cars. Try driving lighter, its not a sports car. Its a compact grocery getter.

  • sounds like u have the hand brake on

  • @101Hitman Yes, it does... but it wasn't!

  • @ozpianoman sounds like it could use an adjustment. just cuz you haven't applied it dosn't mean the factory didn't lol.

  • you finally got it fixed? did they say what the problem was? my 2 makes some noise when i back up, too, but i don't think it's my breaks. mine is a "dryer" sound, rather than the high-pitched squeal.

  • Yes ozpianoman, Mazda 2 is a poo! Bought one and crashed is few months ago due to leaky rear shocks. My car is barely 10months old during the crash.

Here's a list of other problems:

    1)burning smell during acceleration

    2)brakes losing pressure during idle

3)faulty reverse sensor that beep continuously if you shift from P to R

Plus what we're getting is Malaysia is a Mazda 2 that comes without traction / stability control.

YES IT'S A POO! BUY IT AND REGRET IT!

  • Brake problems aren't the only problem with Mazda 2. My less than a year Mazda has brake losing pressure during idle (when in D gear position) and it has squeaky noise in the rear suspension. The stealership kept telling me it's fine when the check it with the ODB2 tools until i lost control and crashed it 4 months ago. Found out that the rear shocks are leaking oils profusely. Mazda refused to even compensate for the crash. Disappointing! That's the last time i'm buying a Mazda!

  • I have a Jetta that does this exact same thing!!

  • just needed to change the pads ..

  • Solution: back into your garage.

  • I have the same car, and ive also had an 04 3 hatch, 05 3i sedan, 2 06 mazda5s an 08 mazda3 hatch and an 08 mazda5...ALL of them squeal when backing up after first starting it up...its a known squeal with the rear disc brakes when backing up in the mornings...BUT...the 2 doesnt have rear discs...they are drums...and I havent had the problem yet...then again mine is a stick so im not on the brakes in the morning..plus youre exaggerating the problem in your videos.

  • @familyvalues2020 Hate to disappoint you but...

Never just "a morning thing". And absolutely NO WAY I'd exaggerate details - say for example, by meddling with video sound levels, which I imagine is what you're suggesting?

Me trying to make the problem appear worse than it really was, would be to weaken my argument that Mazda should REFUND our money. They wouldn't. We put up with this.for 5 months.

4 attempts & HEAD OFFICE chief engineer eventually fixed the squeal.

    I should be impressed ?

  • You had to buy it to know IT'S POO. LOL. ... EVEN the dogs are barking. LOL

  • Sorry for you, man. I have a mazda 2 and it runs very well. I have just had my car serviced after 4 years of use. Only oil change and air filter replaced, engine ok and brakes still good. No warning and nothing to blame.

  • Why are your breaks doing this? I've had my Mazda 2 for a year and my breaks make no noise whatsoever.

  • If that's the only problem, then I could live with it. I do about 70 000km going forward and about 2km going backwards a year.

  • @Jemmo75 Good for You! Buy a Mazda :)

  • I don't think the car is a lemon because it has a single problem. If the whole car starts falling apart, sure, but squeaky brakes? Is this the only issue that you've had with the car? I plan on buying one soon, and honestly this video hasn't really scared me away at all. I test drove one and loved it. . . still do : ) and I hope you can love yours now that it has been sorted out (pending it doesn't happen again of course)

  • @JuggleAddict Thanks for adding your comments. There's a lot of support for the manufacturer among those who see the videos. Wonder if they'd feel the same way if they had to put up with it for so long? Fixed now ... but certainly a lasting memory for her of a car which didn't live up to expectations. We too were impressed in the test drive and later with Mazda's efforts to rectify... Doesn't change the fact that they should have refunded her money ! My new Lancer ? Love that car !!!

  • I think what could have happened is this:

-you had some rust on the brakes because you never used them hard enough, could have slammed on brakes a few times to fix it

-you took it in, they put something on the drums and discs that they shouldn't have

-now they're replacing the pads which does nothing because your brakes are soaked in oil or some crap causing the whole thing to happen again.

in short: a new mechanic that didn't know what he was doing.

  • @horn36 Sorry, your comment got buried somewhere at gmail and so it wasn't posted. Agree - Quality is what inspired us to buy it in the first place. Joined Mazda forum first sign of trouble, asked for advice and got similar comments to those here. Decided to pursue 'money back' course of action. No luck there either. Looks like it's fixed now but not convinced. We'll take it elsewhere for servicing. Don't understand why they'd risk having this sort of publicity. Buy Mazda? Not me... You?

  • Sounds like the mechanics like stealing your money.. Car sounds like it's about time for new rotors and brake pads.

  • I have never had any problems with mazdas u might have just gotten unlucky, and being Japanese this doesn't any sense

  • @applesmnch2 Ahh so ! But is it truly Japanese? No matter - we wanted a good little car, we didn't get it. No denying the Mazda folk have been doing everything they could think of to fix the problem. But that doesn't matter either. Pay 20 grand for a motor car like this - what would YOU do about it???

(Did you see the "bestcarbest" website for the latest report ?)

  • Thankyou kindly... Car was returned to us 24 hours ago (May 11 here) and we are assured that the entire system has been renewed. While we had their loan car for the entire 3 weeks, a head office staff member drove ours daily from his home - similar sloping driveway - and reported no problem during last week. A Triumphant return on Mazda's part. For us it's now wait and see? Will post an update in a few days time.

  • I also drive a Mazda 2 without any problems.. Have to say that it is the European 2008 model.. Never heard of this failure over here though..

Juts let us know how it went with the last check up + fix! I am very curious!

    Good luck with it!

  • @ItaloMike84 Thanks for asking - have posted reply

  • btw this is bull**** cuz the last time this video showed us a part where it says "new brakes" is the first part they showed us and we are falling for it and i have a Mazda2 and it is running smoothly for 7 months now without any problems!

  • @joey161097 YEP. That's the bull**** WE were handed when requesting details of what was done. At no time have we been shown any documentation - probably because it's warranty service (free) & they've delivered the car back saying "There, it should be right now!"

1st few times they weren't so sure... April 20 took it away again - we haven't seen it since! (Video btw is a "collection" of previous ones posted).

  • Do other Mazda owners have Brakes problems ?

    See Mazda Videos :

    "Zoom - Zoom - Squeak" (Mazda 5)

    "2007 Mazda 3-Brake Defect"

  • i can understand your dislike about this but hey.. 400.000 of them cruise over the world .. and your vehicle i hear about to have such a fail.. is the FIRST one

so get back to ground.. mazda belongs to the most reliable cars worldwide

maybe you should get to another workshop .. maybe yours is just poo ^^

  • @DarkDeseas

So you're what? Mazda dealer/Employee, satisfied owner?

Mazda 5 video. (Not mine) Seen it? Others? Reckon they think it funny? You ever had to live with it?

Try ANOTHER workshop; What? You miss something? Mazda Australia's already involved: Why?

Looked at the VIDEOS that's WHY! 2 wks ago Head Office collected Poo can.

Mazda Engineers still working on A PROBLEM MAZDA SOLD US.

Not ready to return it. Wonder why?

Bought car NEW Jan 6 It's May already! THE LEMON STILL SUCKS PAL

  • @DarkDeseas re your comment "maybe yours is just poo" ... ummmmm, I think that's the point the owner is trying to make. The car sounds like a lemon - 4 months old and Mazda can't fix it??? I'd be kicking their doors down and demanding a refund ... ozpianoman might be right - sounds like you're a Mazda employee.

Go get 'em ozpianoman ... hope your video gets plenty of attention.
