I saw this band at least 15 times in various cities over the years. But the ultimate was King of the Past played with a string ensemble accompaniment at the Harbourfront in Toronto. Unbelievable. Thanks for all the memories, lads.
That this song wasn't a massive hit is proof that mankind is doomed. Martin Tielli is a fricking genius. So is Tim Vesely. As is Dave Bidini. Dave Clark is merely extraordinary. I would sell my kidneys to go to a live show.
Such a beautiful song. I could be wrong, but, I get the feeling Sarah McLachlan perhaps indirectly was influenced by it when she wrote "Building A mystery". Listen to the chords. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It is an incredible piece of music. It rocks and has great emotional impact. I had to learn it on guitar. God, Canada can be so out to lunch on who the truly worthwhile bands are. Oh well, their loss.
I totally agree, but you know who else sounds influenced by them: Modest Mouse, especially the songs with the wavery voice of Martin Tielli, and it's apparent in the subject matter as well. I do wonder. They influenced a lot of bands, they were so great!
Somehow I have never seen this video before. A reminder of how precious this band was.

Martin's phrasing on the first guitar solo is very steel guitar-like. Even after all these years, Whale Music continues to move me.

definitely one of the greatest songs ever written, from one of the greatest albums ever produced. All 17 tracks: ingenious.

It`s so sad they broke up. At least I saw their final concert. My favourite band...ever.
