  • I noticed that once a photo you posted at Flickr was censored, all the succeeding and future photos you would be uploading will be marked as censored. This is particularly true with those who are posting models photography. If you have once posted a fine art nude for example and it was censored, the next time you upload a nature or animals photography, it will be viewed as unsafe too, LoL!

  • And by the way, the link posted in this video cannot be viewed in my country - the Philippines. It is marked as "PRIVATE PAGE".

  • flickr is an absolute joke for many reasons other than this one!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ever since Yahoo started as a lowly search engine, I have not been impressed. After trying it numerous times and getting useless results, I long ago gave up on it. From looking at flickr and considering using it, it quickly appeared to be, as with virtually every other large internet sensation, far to big and (needlessly) complex to use. As I evaluated it, that same typical incompetence and callous disregard for clients became evident. Now I see the censorship issue. Glad I bailed on the idea!

  • Why were Fox1986222's comments removed? They were very valid in my opinion.

Anyway, I confess that at this day, the point to which censorship is being applied in some cases is literally sickening me. I find it disgusting how some people try to cover anything they find the smallest bit wrong to their view, and when asked why they use rapists and terrorists as an excuse for everything.

My sincere advice to those people (like Flickr and Youtube), as rude as it may sound, is "Advance already!"

  • So far, from the places I frequent, Youtube seems to have broken the record in censorship. I find innocent videos flagged as "inappropriate" just because they hint the slightest to something some people may consider wrong.

In some cases I have to watch a video many times to understand what in the world offended the person who flagged it, that the Youtube team even agreed on. This was the first time that censorship has literally sickened me.

  • Flickr - and "Terrence" in general - is a one-man censorship nazi who has taken it upon himself to go thru people's accounts and decide what needs to be taken out. I've had this happen firsthand, as have several of my friends. Communicating with him is a nightmare. To think I actually gave them money is something that makes me cringe. DO NOT give them a dime. Set up as many free accounts as you can.

  • Censorship is good some times.

  • Flickr sucks. Bunch of censors.

  • give flickr a break

they dont want to risk the freedom of their colleagues.

they are just going with german law

its the german law you should bash

  • Death to censorship, and to the governments which create such laws! Such behaviors (both online and offline) are going to take us to a world where we will be afraid to even talk or think freely.

I used to love Germany and consider it one of the best countries around as well, but if they are starting to have laws such as jailing someone for something they say or put on the internet they are more hypocritical then I ever thought.

  • I personally loathe the sickly sweet content and atmosphere of flickr. I feel it encourages a kind of safe banality that stifles creativity and originality. For me it exists as a of catalogue of contemporary cliche and is useful only in knowing what to avoid. If anyone knows of a more intresting alternative I would be very grateful.

  • As a person who understands the danger of censorship in the hands of government & the media, etc. I also see the danger of an "anything goes' law where these websites r forced to publish things that they don't wish to. As an avid user of the major photo & video sites I myself am sick of being bombarded with pictures & words that r hateful, smutty, blatantly sexual ... quite unexpectedly. I think it is more disturbing than spam. I am looking for a site that just shows family friendly stuff.

  • I was threatened by this Terrence twice already on my 2 flickr accounts, turned them restricted and unsafe. This guy should be fired!

  • Flickr is the worst of worst in my opinion. THey really Suck. They deleted my account after I renewed my account. THey told me to read their policy and sent me a URL to go to to read it. They said I had a voyeur photo posted there. I did not ever post any nudes, porn or such.

I read the entire URL they sent to me regarding their POLICY. Never a mention of the word "voyeur".

I spent over a year, almost daily, uploading 8000+ photos, adding tags and making it very useful to others, more..

  • Paid my dues and got an email saying I was a bad boy and everything was gone in the cick of some idiots bad day.

Never will I belong to them again. Just beware.

There are many, many stories of this going on. What do they care? Well the turth is they don't. They get to keep the money and wipe out a person's hard work for there own kicks.

A total scam. If I had the 'real' person's name, i would hunt him/her down like a scumbag dog he/she is.

  • mother flickr

  • Why does the female voice sound like a text to speech reader?

  • Because it is. I was trying to be neutral by using the text to speech, instead of using my own voice which would have sounded just as partisan as I was in the rest of the report.

  • @djackmanson Interesting that it has a British accent.

  • Interesting tag search results for the Flickr co-Founders, Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake...take a look...

  • flickr is a fruad

  • just get a free account and you cant be frauded

  • i have now but i bought the pro account and they deleted two days after i paid for no reason . i had no web pics nor any nudes adn nothing offensive they had no reason to give me just said they dont give refunds so i feel they stole my money for no reason

  • Do Pop by + see my Tribute to Eliot Spitzer Pix!! ;))

  • I'm failing to understand how a filesharing site can be held accountable for the legislative process of certain governments. Shouldn't you be protesting the government that made the law instead of the people who follow it?

  • flickr admitted they went over the top with regard to the censorship in germany. still hasnt changed from what i can tell, though.

  • No a la censura en Flickr!

  • These stories are rarely specific enough. What specifically was being censored? I'm against censorship, too--but do you have kids? The conversation, to be relevant, needs to be about the specific topics being moderated by censors, rather than the idea of censorship. Are you trying to start a 'War on Terrorism' kind of thing? Too broad to be useful.

  • Everyone in Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea (presumably the ROK) was banned from seeing any picture on Flickr that was not marked "Safe" by the user who uploaded it. This was clearly stated in the first half minute of the video.

  • That sounds like a logistical error rather than an idealogical issue, that can be solved with some communication.

The false dichotomy presented by "pictures of your old church-going aunt" isn't fair to those making moderation decisions with website content of this sort. The Asian issue is well-known to me, and those societies should work out those issues, of course.

  • Do you think only yahoo is doing it ?, GOOGLE is doing it too.

Have you heard abput GOOGLE and China ? .... just 'google' google and china and you'' see

  • This is all to close to home now that the Australian Government is Censoring Wikipedia, MySpace and YouTube when you use the word "APEC". My channel was frozen for 2 days. +++The Saint+++

  • omg r serious!!! wiki jeebuz i hate this...

  • So do I. They've been on my case with my YouTube Channel all week. Comments are taken down, put back up, then taken down again. Videos disappearing then appearing again. The AAP confirmed over 5000 edits on Wiki by the Australian Government. +++TSt+++ That does not include YouTube and MySpace.

  • Wow that sucks guys, believe me, even being American I can understand censorship when dealing with things that should be able to be viewed. Personally I think there is no more 1st amendment.

  • Good work! I just have deleted all my photos (3000+) on flickr, and moved over to ipernity.

  • Good work.

  • Keep your pecker up! I try to do mine!

  • Good on ya, mate!

  • It's unbeleavable!

  • Maybe they really think it's so but it is not for example here a link to a German Pic Service.

This service in up for longer than 2 years, you can access the pictures without an account and without age verfication. It's public and uncensored. You see German Laws are liberal.

    view(dot)stern(dot)de/fc/keyword/Nackt/

Noone of Stern was sent to prison for this. Noone went to prison for it.

  • thinkflickrthink

  • i'm trying zoom.. very confusing to register with and certainly doesn't have the features, *but* it has adopted the shareholder resolution text re censorship that yahoo rejected.

  • Sorry not "Brenda" but "Heather"...

  • Best thing is Brenda, when she talks about "trust" - this sounds somewhat wrong coming from Flickr/Yahoo! Staff...

  • Flickr (or better, the failed Yahoo executives) cannot believe that all germans will accept to be considered as people that canno see many of the pictures arouns. This is ridiculuos, and will not work. It will change, but I, too, have lost large part of my confidence here.

  • I'm trying a series of alternative photohosts now, and while it might take me a while to diengage the blogging, for example, there is no way that I am going back to using Flickr for all my photohosting after this. I'm sure I'm not alone.
