hey, as it happens, Theatre of Hate pre-date SGC by at least a year, having formed in 1980. Theatre of Hate really pre-date the whole batcave scene too: As they really started in 1978 as The Pack. Either way, I remember enjoying all the Batcave bands back when the scene came along.

@gnowave yeh, the shroom/acid goth bands were the best, as for me, they WERE the goth bands, the rest were just semi posh kids being sceney.

@alastair415 erm, theatre of hate? the connection in sound is right, however, you will find that the sex gang predated them by FAR! sex gang were connected with the batcave scene (THEE orignal goth club, for the early goths and punk-acid-heads, was in same place as the alice and wonderlands club venure (that was dr and the medics night) batcave was run by a band called specimen.

most new goth is just metal though, isnt it.

@gnowave - hey, you're right the Alice in Wonderland club night started when Ollie was already away settled in the US - though in the same venue called the Gossip in Dean St, Soho. I caught the last period of the Batcave run by the Specimen and have many photos with Ollie and John. The SGC live shows were legendary, so were the Virgin Prunes' - have photos of their gigs too. Then after the 'Alice in Wonderland', the venue started to host industrial nights, the rest is history
