I feel really bad for Big Brown. Something seriously needs to be done about the breeding of Thoroughbreds. Injuries and fatalities are bound to happen in any sport, I know, but most TBs are so bloody fragile nowadays. There needs to be more focus on endurance, and raising the age limit would certainly help as well. I love horse racing, and it'd be fantastic to see more sturdy horses on the track!

He was loaded on steroids for the 1st 2 legs of the TC and Drugtow admitted he took him off of them for the Belmont. Drugtow has a confirmed 68 recorded medication violations in his career at 15 different tracks. The International Racing Commission has asked the NYRA to permanently ban him. They will likely not do it because they dont care about racings integrity any more LOL

Saez ( Eight Belles's jockey) is NOT good enough or experienced enough to have done what Edgar Prado did ( pulling up not just for Barbaro but also other horses because he felt something go wrong). Saez is a lousy jockey in this sense, and the toll of his carelessness/inadequacy fell on poor Eight Belles who ran on in danger and into death. RIP girl.

10x better? Not really. Big Brown only won because they doped him up on steroids, which is why he petered out and ended up losing the Triple Crown when they took him OFF the steroids for the Belmont. Had he not been put on steroids, and had Eight Belles not had the issue with her ankle, that ultimately lead to her death, I fully believe she would have won the Derby last year.

steriods were legal at the time, it wasnt illegal so there wasnt any cheating involved. steriods were used for theraputic purposes, to help their appetite and help them heal faster. they werent muscle building substances. and lastly, you probably never even heard of eight belles until she died, then out of sympathy you 'liked' her because she died. you dont know anything about horse racing if you think big brown won because of steriods. curlin took steriods as a 3 year old but didnt need them

Eight Belles and Ruffian had lots of heart. Eight Belles had an accident like I said. Accidents have NOTHING to do with heart. I knew about Eight Belles about 6 months before she died. Ruffian also broke down but that does not mean that she didn't have heart. Ruffian and Eight Belles (in my opinion) were the greatest racehorses of all time. I never liked Big Brown that much. But I have to admit, he had some heart as well.
he didnt win the triple crown because he was trying to do something only a few horses have ever done and something that hadnt been done in many many years in only 5 career starts. the belmont stakes was his 5th career start, it is impossible to win the triple crown in your 5th start while undefeated. he also had his shoe torn off and it was torn off the entire race there are pictures of kent pulling up big brown while his shoe was still sticking out. that's why i think he didnt want to run

Eight Belles. Barbaro. Things have got to change in the racing 'industry' here in the US. They need to run horses whose skeletons are fully developed so they don't break limbs, to breed them to have larger, stronger bones, to train them instead of break them, to breed and run them for endurance, not speed. And more importantly- it needs to be isolated to A circuit. The backyard/over-breeding is why the market is flooded with unwantedhorses who are sent to slaughter in Canada/Mexico.

I'm glad I didn't watch this Derby, cause I certainly woulda grown attatched to Belle through the TV cause she was a filly & was beautiful.

10x better? Not really. Big Brown only won because they doped him up on steroids, which is why he petered out and ended up losing the Triple Crown when they took him OFF the steroids for the Belmont. Had he not been put on steroids, and had Eight Belles not had the issue with her ankle, that ultimately lead to her death, I fully believe she would have won the Derby last year.

yeah, a typical new comer's response to horseracing. i guess all the triple crown failures were taken off their steriods before the belmont too correct? all the pros in horse racing know steriods dont determine a horses greatness. the connections knew this which is why he wasnt on them for the belmont. all the horse racing vets said steriods wasnt ANY factor in big brown's performance. enough though talking with a clueless seasonal fan

Big Brown was bigger, but Eight Belles had a million times the heart. And if Big Brown was 10 times better than Eight Belles, than why didin't he win the Triple Crown? Everyone thought that he was going to win but I knew that he was going to lose. He was not as good as Secretariat. Not even close.

She had an accident. That has nothing to do with heart. Big Brown was put on steroids! That is why he won. (I agree to taryn1979's comment) Eight Belles was amazing and she was not on steroids. Big Brown was good too, but I belive that putting horses on steroids is like cheating. I also belive that Eight Belles was better than Big Brown from the start. It's to bad that the Kentucky Derby was her last race. I would have wanted her to run in the Belmont and beat Big Brown.

steriods were legal at the time, it wasnt illegal so there wasnt any cheating involved. steriods were used for theraputic purposes, to help their appetite and help them heal faster. they werent muscle building substances. and lastly, you probably never even heard of eight belles until she died, then out of sympathy you 'liked' her because she died. you dont know anything about horse racing if you think big brown won because of steriods. curlin took steriods as a 3 year old but didnt need them

Eight Belles and Ruffian had lots of heart. Eight Belles had an accident like I said. Accidents have NOTHING to do with heart. I knew about Eight Belles about 6 months before she died. Ruffian also broke down but that does not mean that she didn't have heart. Ruffian and Eight Belles (in my opinion) were the greatest racehorses of all time. I never liked Big Brown that much. But I have to admit, he had some heart as well.

he didnt win the triple crown because he was trying to do something only a few horses have ever done and something that hadnt been done in many many years in only 5 career starts. the belmont stakes was his 5th career start, it is impossible to win the triple crown in your 5th start while undefeated. he also had his shoe torn off and it was torn off the entire race there are pictures of kent pulling up big brown while his shoe was still sticking out. that's why i think he didnt want to run

Eight Belles. Barbaro. Things have got to change in the racing 'industry' here in the US. They need to run horses whose skeletons are fully developed so they don't break limbs, to breed them to have larger, stronger bones, to train them instead of break them, to breed and run them for endurance, not speed. And more importantly- it needs to be isolated to A circuit. The backyard/over-breeding is why the market is flooded with unwantedhorses who are sent to slaughter in Canada/Mexico.

the reason there is so many race horse deaths is because they train to hard,they are racing way to early,they are sometimes in breed and they get dieseases and they sometimes have very week bones
