i hear brill more than motown. whatever, it's gorgeous. how nice it's here for us to hear. at 9991 plays, that vinyl would be pretty worn out by now. there's something about 1965, what a time, so many things sadly goin' out forever, so many coming in', and often not for the better. it was the last magic year, and the music reflects it
Memories for days here. My mom bought this song when it came out and we were crazy abou it. I was all of 10 I think at the time. Of course they copied the Motown sound and I remember seeing them on some dance show dressed up with the flip wigs looking like the Motown Supremes. This was a great song and I still have the record, scratched as it is but it still plays.
I have to say that all these Ikettes 45 postings of songs from the Modern years have me wanting to buy the cd after all. I wasn't gonna spend $20 on a cd for 2 songs (Peaches & Cream and Biggest Players) but since I see that Ike's genius extended to his Backing Singers "solo" project, I'm headed to Amazon now to buy the full cd!
i was in high school.... loved it the first time i heard it...along with jams like There's Something I Wanna Tell You by Johnnie and the Expressions (check it out on youtube) and Ben Aiken wailing out Stay Together Young Lovers and Eddie Holman with This Can't Be True and all the Motown sounds of course and so much more!
I'm So Thankful for this posting. Lawd! I remember when the Ikettes came to my high school for a record hop and performed this song, only after bringing down the house with their hot dance routines and those hot shimmy mini skirts!
I would love to hear Mary J cover this!
