I don't know why people have such a kneejerk reaction to censorship, especially since it's not even that much. I remember Tien getting his arm chopped off. I remember Goku getting a hole blown through him, Krillin blowing up. All in the DBZ US version. I know they had Vegeta kill Guldo and the US version edited it so that his body and head were still attached, but he still killed the guy. Goku doesn't say "kill" and Freiza's broken hand doesn't make a sound and it's the worse thing ever? Please.

Kai is cool in all but I just prefer the original. I grew up with it,from the very start. The original series was a very big part of my childhood and Kai just seems to twist those memories a bit. Sure they get rid of the filler but its the filler that made the series feel complete. Sure its the action that most people clamored for but I actually liked all the in-betweens of the series. I'm not fussy.
Not to mention the new voice actors really don't do it for me.
Uncensored Kai is the better series. The original had lots of prolonged scenes of shouting and looped animation. That's because looping animation is cheap and lets you get more episodes. More episodes get you more money. Nowadays, an anime is actually granted a decent animation budget, so they don't need to recycle things. Could you imagine if somebody preferred a tv set from the 90s just because of nostalgia. Kai is a sleeker, more modern show. The original only has historic value at this point

Because the scripts in the uncut version stick to the original Japanese version (with a few minor changes) which has much better scripts. If anything the old Funi and Ocean dubs watered down the scripts with things like "mondo cool" the next dimension" and lines that were already simple in the Japanese version being simplified even more then they needed to be.

Just watch the Nicktoons version or get the uncut video and be glad that 4kids didn't actually dub it. Then Goku would be George, Vegeta would be Vergil, Gohan would be John, and Piccolo would be Peter. ;D

And the script changes were done to be more like the manga. Z had all the original lines changed, which even changed character personalities. Kai corrects this.

@SerenGetter Well put. There's literally nothing about Z that's better than Kai. The picture quality is improved, the pacing isn't slow as fuck, and the dialogue is vastly superior. The only thing I prefer about Z is Faulconer's audio, but that's just a matter of preference. People really seem to let their nostalgia cloud their judgment.
@SerenGetter Kai is missing Falconer, several popular voices, several lines I like, and at the same time, I've gotten old enough that my fixation with historically-long anime has evaporated. Honestly, YU YU HAKUSHO is better than Dragonball as an anime, Z or Kai, because everything about it from its theme, to its pacing, to its music, to its violence is better than DBZ. im new to the DB series(s), i personally like the nicktoons dub (gohan's voice omg) of the super saiyan saga in DBzkai. but i also enjoyed the buu saga (thats what its called right?) in DBz, and though i havent seen any DBGT yet, im sure its gonna be awesome!
DBGT don't even think about to watch, it's like a parody but have a few good openings, and if you want that, search for DB AF - manga after you finsih with Buu saga
@CashlessNick Yea, Overall Kai is a good idea. The censored version is such a disgrace it should never be witnessed. The uncensored version, while being less disgraceful, is still an abomination. I don't need to explain why since that would take more characters than YouTube allows. If you honestly can't see / hear it yourself, then the reasons have already been posted by several other YouTubers.

@CashlessNick It does not have better performances, it does not have better dialogue, the voices are poorly done and sound very off, despite having the same voice actors for most of them. Gohan's replacement does an atrocious job. The animation is pathetic for what it's supposed to be. I've seen better drawings by my 5 year old niece. They proved they can do good animation, but only did it in the one movie and advertisements.

@CashlessNick In addition, there is almost zero suspense. They effectively ended any character development. In the original DB / DBZ, you grew attached to characters. You were able to relate to them and watch as they grew. None of that in Kai. The episode ends and you're not eager to see what happens next, you just don't care. Then they also used some horrible soundtracks. (Some were good, but not enough to justify)

DBZ dubbed script was Americanized because a direct translation as I mentioned causes a very weak dialogue such as what Kai offers. DBZ dubbed is designed to have comic relief in the script and allow the American target audience to relate. To be clear, I never said Kai was for newcomers, quite the opposite. It's not for anyone with half a brain.

@denzell780 kai is a remastered version of z with more saturation, new music by kenji yamamoto instead of bruce faulconer, and it goes faster than z. (ex: episode 77 in z is episode 37 in kai). most of the voice actors from z are in kai except for a few.

The actors didn't learn how to act until the Buu saga (They even admit it themselves, watch?v=m8Ux5cs2G1g)
5 year old Gohan sounded way too old (15 year old Goku and kid Gohan have the exact same voice)
Not to mention the old Z was notoriously SLOW AS SHIT
The Freeza saga ends at 107 episodes in Z.
Kai in its entirety is 98 episodes

@SerenGetter Well put. There's literally nothing about Z that's better than Kai. The picture quality is improved, the pacing isn't slow as fuck, and the dialogue is vastly superior. The only thing I prefer about Z is Faulconer's audio, but that's just a matter of preference. People really seem to let their nostalgia cloud their judgment.

@SerenGetter Kai is missing Falconer, several popular voices, several lines I like, and at the same time, I've gotten old enough that my fixation with historically-long anime has evaporated. Honestly, YU YU HAKUSHO is better than Dragonball as an anime, Z or Kai, because everything about it from its theme, to its pacing, to its music, to its violence is better than DBZ. Sorry, this comment just really brings out my obnoxiousness.

YuYu Hakusho however is known for being one of FUNimation's best dubs. Its totally accurate to the Japanese, the script, the music, and the voices
DBZ is the opposite. The Freeza saga is completely wrong in the old dub (The lines are wrong, Freeza is a old lady, the music is wrong)
The FUNimation Crew admitted Kai means more to them. It gave them a chance to dub the series right

The driving episode is the best episode of DBZ.
It is a filler episode.
I don't mind that.
I hate all the staring, trash talking, and overall pointless scenes (such as nearly every scene with King Kai).
Namek blew up in 5 minutes.
Those five minutes took 9 episodes in the old Z.
Literally little to nothing was happening for half of those episodes
There was barely any fighting in average episode of DBZ.

hey, lets not argue about which series is better or which style (dub, sub, etc.) is the best. either enjoy it, or dont watch it, its as simple as that.
im new to the DB series(s), i personally like the nicktoons dub (gohan's voice omg) of the super saiyan saga in DBzkai. but i also enjoyed the buu saga (thats what its called right?) in DBz, and though i havent seen any DBGT yet, im sure its gonna be awesome!

Gohan's replacement does an atrocious job. The animation is pathetic for what it's supposed to be. I've seen better drawings by my 5 year old niece. They proved they can do good animation, but only did it in the one movie and advertisements.

There's a problem there. 1) If I wanted the Manga, I'd read the Manga. @CashlessNick In addition, there is almost zero suspense. They effectively ended any character development. In the original DB / DBZ, you grew attached to characters. You were able to relate to them and watch as they grew. None of that in Kai. The episode ends and you're not eager to see what happens next, you just don't care. Then they also used some horrible soundtracks. (Some were good, but not enough to justify)

DBZ dubbed script was Americanized because a direct translation as I mentioned causes a very weak dialogue such as what Kai offers. DBZ dubbed is designed to have comic relief in the script and allow the American target audience to relate. To be clear, I never said Kai was for newcomers, quite the opposite. It's not for anyone with half a brain.

The blood is almost entirely removed. The dialogue is completely changed so that kill and dead are replaced by words like hurt and injured. The violence is hardly even there. It's a show ABOUT fighting and it doesn't feel even close with Kai.

@denzell780 kai is a remastered version of z with more saturation, new music by kenji yamamoto instead of bruce faulconer, and it goes faster than z. (ex: episode 77 in z is episode 37 in kai). most of the voice actors from z are in kai except for a few.
