PLEASE HELP. I refilled my Tahoe with the refrigerant and the back passenger vents comes out cold but the front vents blow fan air. Why is it not cooling the front? appreciate it thanks.
Someone told me to take out all the pressure from the a/c until the gauge read 0 then add the freeon, is that true? Never read a label that said that. Do I empty it, then fill it up or just plug it in, refill and Im done? If after I am finish the can, what does it mean if the gauge needle still moves up and down from the bottom of the blue all the way to the top of the blue (Blue=Filled / 25-45 psi) When I plug in the gauge, the pressure goes up and down on the blue (filled) is it safe to add?
High and Low are clearly labeled on the filling caps, as H and L on my vehicle. Just did it, compressor clutch did not engage because pressure was so low. After adding some gas, it engaged and I have some A/C, but need more than 18oz to get it icy. 1997 tacoma pickup with 160k miles. Not sure if I have a leak, time will tell.
@P10mb that's the very last thing I noticed and thought of when I watched this, and then I figured I'd look and see if anyone else thought the same thing.
IF your going to DIY a recharge like this, it should only be done with a system that has some preassure, compressor at that point should at least cycle on and off. Check the preassure on the low side, or HF has cheap manifold gauges, along with an A/C vac pump that is cheap.. Then, with an ambient temp at 90*, charge the system with the CAN UPRIGHT until the compressor stops cycling.. Then check vent temp and make sure it's cold. if it's still low on the gauge, just leave it alone. it'll be ok.
@mattdudley13 are they cheaper than autozones tool loan program? Except for the refundable deposits on the manifold gauge set and vacuum pump of 300, while your using them it's free when you return them.
So what about the oil in the compressor and accumulator?
If you see a guy charging without a low AND high side pressure manifold gage, no clue about how much or type of oil, no leak check, no fan moving air across condensor, no scale for measuring charge, and claims to be an "expert" you'll know that repair will not last.
You can do this and apparently risk the end of the world, or you can spend more than your old runabout is worth getting an "A/C tech with 36 years experience" (now that's a guy with ambition) to do it for you. Give me the can! I've got no air-con now and if it doesn't work I'll still have none. If the compressor goes it won't cost me thousands for a new one, it just means it won't get fixed!
I swear everyone who watches videos from expert village are on their period. Chill out guys. If he's doing something you don't agree with, then state why rather than give childish remarks.
@reenadeng4eva he turned it one way to force the needle into the can, breaking the seal. He then spun it the other way, backing the needle out so the refrigerant could flow.
Gag! Did he survive the CO gas in the enclosed space? My understanding is that you add a can of AC to the low pressure port and that the can must be upside down to insure that liquid is moved into the system from the can?
If you don't turn the can upside down are you risking not getting the oil into the system? I think with the can upright you may get a lot of r134a vapor but not much lubricant. I'm not sure... What's the correct procedure?
More like village idiot. First, DO NOT run a car inside unless you like to suck on exhaust fumes, Two NEVER charge with can upside down to get liquid, hold it up to get vapor, Third, The proper way to charge is to evacuate, leak test, and then CHARGE with a SCALE, not with the POS auto parts store "fix everything in a can" and guess at only the low side pressure.
This very helpfull. And I allso di see the other video. I would like to now the name of the device in which you conected the can with gas I see is it quickly.
@userchad2198 Whats your opinion on 12a (not R-12) A/C gas. Is it better than R-134a refrigerant and is it true that it blows colder than the regular R-134a refrigerant?
Incorrect way to recharge . The person never purged the hose of air/moisture first before screwing the hose onto the line fitting. Further, you dont just shoot a can of refrigerant into the system as he showed...it has to be accurately put in so the system doesnt get overcharged/undercharged. Leave the a/c system to real professionals to do and dont do it yourself. You can mess up the system bad, plus you can hurt yourself using the freon. Im an A/C Tech of 36 years.
Cool Vid ,,,Could mention too ,,.. , to try and maintain the valve needle below the red zone as you are charging the ac unit ,, , also for those older cars with r22 gas ,, there is a conversion kit to the legal r134a wich you can buy at cragens err autozone which has r134a tip that permanently screws over your old r22 tip. some kits even come with an instructional dvd . Tip- the air compressor will not come on until there is sufficient freon on the unit, also check leaks with soap and water
that you finally someone said something smart, most people that the people that sell this cans dont care about safety just about selling, it has to be done by someone licensed
Yo they don't have to appreciate you, but I do. I don't know shit about cars, but looking at this was the best example I saw online. Now my car is cool breeze! Thanks man! P.Chase
Yo they don't have to appreciate you, but I do. I don't know shit about cars, but looking at this was the best example I saw online. Now my car is cool breeze! Thanks man! P.Chase
I had a bad condenser and all my r 134a leaked out. I repaired the condenser and recharged the system. My question is, did my compressor oil leak out too? I've been told in the past that it stays in the compressor but I don't want to chance it.
That is not the proper way to do a conversion. First off you need to evacuate all of the R-12 using proper equipment. Then you need to drain the oil and replace the accumulator or drier. You have to try and remove as much of the mineral oil as you can because it isn't compatible with R-134A. Next you have to vacuum the system to remove any moisture. Last charge and oil (Ester) it with the proper amount using a scale according to retrofit conversion chart. Leave it to the professionals.
I dont get why people watch "HOW TO VIDEOS" just for trying to find minor errors so they can show how there the expert. Take that macho nacho shit elsewhere faggits.
where the hell do you need a license to buy ac recharge refrigerant?they sell it to anyone here in california at any auto parts store, they even sell the hook up lines with pressure tester.i never take my car to a shop ,they ripp you off bad.feel sorry for those who know nothing about cars.
what are you talking about, you don't need a license to buy or handle refrigerant? Refilling refrigerant is like one of the easiest things you can do on a vehicle. There are how to video's on here so people don't have to get ripped off, thinking it's a super complex thing.
I live in California, our law forces the mechanic to pressure test & inspect everything.Total price $450 to have cold air. My car? 87" Ford Tempo. I'll do it my self, thanx for the video.
I have the same hose that I got with a cheap kit. I twist counter clockwise until the pin is all the way in. Then when I try to remove it, the valve comes off...
So I have to leave that can on? Could I take it off, and put another hose on?
haha...yeah, mine said hold upright as well, and nothing about shaking it. Also, i could clearly tell the can was empty within 25 seconds of opening the valve...not 5-15 minutes. I can confirm it was empty because i took the valve off the can when i was done and it was...well...an empty can! Sometimes the connectors on these cheap re-fill kits SUCK..they are very hard to click on to the service port and often leak, causing a frost-burn on your fingers. Buy the ones with the good metal connector
you do realize that by putting the can upsidedown you just added liquid to the compressor and thats baddd for it what you want to put in there is gass. the compressor cant compress a liquid
gee, the can of freon i used to charge my system yesterday said to hold the can in an upright position. and nothing about shaking the can .. i wonder which way is correct?
What do you think guys about, the existing oil is compatible with this freon good question? It's not, the oil used in old sistem was alkilbenzen mineral oil R-12,R-22 A/C sistem, R-134a Polyester POE oil, if do you add R-134 on R-12 sistem, and not replace the oil and dryer you will kill the compresor thank you god bless to everybody, have a nice day
Forgive if I'm wrong, but isn't he supposed to hold the can upright to make the apprapriate amount, i mean appropriate amount LOL, is run into the vhicle to avoid getting moisture inside the A/C system?
You looks like hollywood actor dude:) thanks for the useful video..!

wrong! im a refridge engineer nd first off u have air in your line which is very bad and can result in loads of problems
you can over charge system which can lead liquid getting back to comp nd it going bang
so to know how much to put in u need to know how much was in it to start
if it was empty you need to vac out first
and if it was empty you have a leak
and if you have a leak its now against the law to recharge a leakin system

your noy supposed to hold the cap upside down or else the system sucks in coolant fluid.
expert village is no expert.
This can fuck up your a/c system.

where the hell do you need a license to buy ac recharge refrigerant?they sell it to anyone here in california at any auto parts store, they even sell the hook up lines with pressure tester.i never take my car to a shop ,they ripp you off bad.feel sorry for those who know nothing about cars.
cagonesss in reply to darkshadow1967 (Show the comment) 2 years ago
what are you talking about, you don't need a license to buy or handle refrigerant? Refilling refrigerant is like one of the easiest things you can do on a vehicle. There are how to video's on here so people don't have to get ripped off, thinking it's a super complex thing.

Buy the ones with the good metal connector

you do realize that by putting the can upsidedown you just added liquid to the compressor and thats baddd for it what you want to put in there is gass. the compressor cant compress a liquid
mexskal in reply to MXSLICK (Show the comment) 2 years ago
gee, the can of freon i used to charge my system yesterday said to hold the can in an upright position. and nothing about shaking the can .. i wonder which way is correct?
Dougous 3 years ago
he just said on first video have the old freon drained by a shop before doing this
jayguy173 3 years ago
What do you think guys about, the existing oil is compatible with this freon good question? It's not, the oil used in old sistem was alkilbenzen mineral oil R-12,R-22 A/C sistem, R-134a Polyester POE oil, if do you add R-134 on R-12 sistem, and not replace the oil and dryer you will kill the compresor thank you god bless to everybody, have a nice day

"Make sure to add the apprapriate amount... Or the appropriate amount"
mmmfloorpie 3 years ago 2
Forgive if I'm wrong, but isn't he supposed to hold the can upright to make the apprapriate amount, i mean appropriate amount LOL, is run into the vhicle to avoid getting moisture inside the A/C system?
orochikaiba in reply to mmmfloorpie (Show the comment) 3 years ago
no putting the can upside down gets liquid into the compressor, and you dont want that, it could ruin it, what you want to do is pur gasss in it.
