  • Thanks for posting. I particularly enjoyed the scene of the old streetcar.

  • Thanks very much, it was marked in one book as 1942 but we did find another note attached to the video as winter 48

  • It cannot be 1942 as the city buses shown are 1948 model 41S Twin Coaches. The streetcars last ran in summer 1949 so I would guess the footage shows winter 1948-49. There's a photo of a stretcar in heavy snow in 12/48 in the book "Hanging Fire and Heavy Horses", the history of the Nelson system. I am the owner of the last bus purchased by the city transit system - #118, 1971 GMC TDH3301, preserved as #6000.

My Dad drove bus in Nelson during the 1950's & 60's. I remember the Twin Coach buses with the motor over the rear wheels right at the rear of the bus. In 1956 the City of Nelson bought new Brill coach and I remember riding it. They had a horizontal six cylinder motor with three speed transmission. Later years a newer type of Twin Coaches were purchased. They didn't have enough power to to up the hills with a full load of passengers, so the rear ends had to be changed.
