  • Ok, listen! This is from way back to 1982. The costumes aren't exactly the same as the 1998 film. Also, Gillian Lynne used the same exact choreography in each production, including the film. As well, this is a shortened version of the song. Calm down!!!

  • You morons do realize that some of the video cast originated in THIS cast, right?

    Show some damn appreciation.

  • okay ... (mal kurz in deutsch: wollen wir heiraten? wir könnten uns stundenlang cats videos ansehen....), now english: I think the costumes are pretty colourfuil, I like that, but still the make-up and the wigs are a bit too much - in German we say "less is more", that's the case here in my opinion. but still, a good interpretaion of the song!

  • these cats are WAY too dramatic, i like the film better

  • i prefer the costumes from the film, these ones look to cheap

  • haha I remember in the fifth grade we had to do a project about our favorite song and this was mine.

  • i prefer the film version

  • this is AMAZING

  • @tppipersa hell ya Brent all the way but I'm also phyllida all the way ( Victoria) this original broadway cast FREAKIN sucks

  • I saw this today in Pittsburgh... pretty cool, though it wasn't the highest in production value

  • NO OFFENSE TO ANYBODY!!!but i HATE the original broadway cast!!!! JACOB BRENT ALL THE WAYYYYY

  • niiiice : )

I liked it and think they did a great job

  • ich mag originale sachen nicht

  • The american version is so much better than the London. I saw both and the American was definately more enjoyable.

  • Hehehe, pause at 1:53

    That cat looks hungry...

  • no offense but i never really appreciated the london version of cats

  • chrissi2810 can you post a broadway video of the rum tum tugger and mr mistoffelees

  • @BonJoviFan96

Sorry I only have this short clips =(

  • Its sad that the people who were originaly in this cast might read some of the bad comments about them. I hope they read this comment because I applaude them for bringing the show to america in the first place! Without them, it would of stayed in the UK.

  • i love high quality

  • Wow, a lot of people seem to dislike this cast. You need to realize that this was one of the first casts of cats, so of course everything is going to look different and their dance moves will be different. They didn't have the movie to base anything on, nor had the choreography, costumes, and face paint really been that perfected yet. This cast did a very good job and they deserve more kudos than most are giving them.

  • To me this is the best cast of Cats!!

The London cast just doesn't do it for me.

  • @QTS97 WHAT?!?!!??! the london cast has: BETTER MOVES, BETTER VOICES, BETTER DANCERS, and BETTER COSTUMES! I cant believe you like this more....

  • @SquealingBladder Here, here! I think this cast is excellent and equally as talented as the video cast! Stop the hating people!

Also, anyone else love the girl at 1:52? xD

  • @SquealingBladder And besides, it wouldn't be so great to be a CATS fan if there weren't so much differences between all those casts

  • @Wenubischannel Very true.

  • costumes are different on the filming as they were simplified for the cameras. the differences in individual costumes are because they are all made to fit the actors individually- the basic costumes for US and UK shows is the same

  • I've always preferred the original broadway cast. I wasn't terribly impressed with the version that was released on dvd ten years ago. I've seen this on stage at least fifteen times and I've heard some off-broadway Grizabella's that put both Elaine Paige and Betty Buckley to shame.

  • It doesn't even look like there singing.

  • Why did they skip like the whole song? Why do the cats look so different then they do when it was filmed?

  • They skip the half song because it was filmed for a TV show.

And the costumes are different because in the film it's the London version and this is the American version.

  • Eww, I like London better. Does this mean I'm going to disspapointed? I'm seeing the tour this month. This US Version looks awful. And why would they change the costumes? Take Wicked for instance, they didn't change the costume for London? Or for US? >:(

  • @CrazyAboutSims2 It's the Tony Awards version.

  • @CrazyAboutSims2 this was the tony awards and was a preview of the show that was filmed

  • haha yet at 1:53 what cat is she supposed to play?

  • hahah from 1.41 to 1.46 it sounds just like Beethoven's Ode to Joy!!!

  • Demeter, I think, from watching it.

  • Yes it's Demeter, played by Marlene Danielle

  • I think that is demeter

  • That's Jemima.

  • the girls face on 1:53 is so funny lol

  • heh heh 1:53

  • Is it possible to get the other Cats songs, other than memory, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, and, Jellicle songs for Jellicle Cat. I really want to see the other original ones, esspacially Macavity and Jellicle Ball part 2.

  • But I only have this two videos. It was a special performance for the Tony Awards. There's no full video of this cast!

  • how do you get the original broadway cast or london cast movie of this? Please message me !

  • I got the video of the Original Broadway Cast from the DVD 'Broadway's Last Treasures'. It was a special performance for the Tony Awards.

  • You cant

  • Ok so I'v never see this play untill today At the O.C.A.P.C and now this is my FAV. Play EVER

  • lol i can't wait for it to come to Baltimore. xD I hear the live play is way better than the movie. ^^

  • some of the actors in this are so scary. i feel like they might just overdue it a little :P

  • They just aren't like cats. They're not dainty enough and I know, I've had a cat for a few years. They should walk like models, they don't call it a catwalk for nothing, Maybe they should tone done the lighting and costumes and not have such fast high songs.

  • they dont even look like cats! they are dead!!! i mean look at their faces!!!! I like the original london versian better!!!

  • i agree, their costumes are terrible

  • The show that I saw was terrible...

  • wow, a lot of the song was cut - or was it lengthened in the DVD version?

  • The description said this performance was for the Tony Awards. Most likely, the song needed to be abridged to save time for the rest of the awards.

  • That was wonderful, thanks for the upload! (Why are there two victorias? 0__o) It's nice to see Marlene Danielle in her original role as Demeter. Her face at 1.52 is lol-tastic :D

  • what is the story for this play?

  • It's basically a musical adaptation of T.S. Elliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". Webber used the poems as lyrics (mostly) and made them into a musical.

  • there's not really a story..well kinda when it comes to macavity...but really its just cats singing about their personalities

  • All the casts are part of a tribe, the jellicles. And once a year they all meet together on the night they all call the jellical ball. Each year one cat is chosen to go to basically their heaven and be reborn. All these cats I guess are competing to be the one to be reborn

  • I want this video please! Infact do even have the movie of the oringal cast?

  • This clip came from the PBS broadway DVD collection. There are not even bootleg videos of the CATS OBC. :(

    FK

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Actually. I think someone used to have a bootleg of the original Gus on you tube..I am not sure...I will see if I can find it.
