Amazing, I hadn't seen many of those pics until now. Our house got flooded in that storm, and I thought we had it bad until I saw Civic the next day. It turns out we got let off lightly!
I remember that day! it was craaazzzyyy! my friend was at regatta point during the day and saw a mini tornado form on lake Burley Griffin. He said that it picked up a heap of water and then split into 3 smaller tornados which then wnet over the land. I saw the aftermath myself, commonwealth park looked like a scene out of a war movie, you could actually see the path the tornados would have taken due the smashed trees left behind. Great day! thanks for posting dude
I didn't realise the extent of the storm. A friend and I went through Canberra city that day but most of the hail/ice/snow/frozen liquid had melted with some help from the sun. Thanks for the clip. I hope it snows again soon.
The first pics of the storm over Yass where taken by Guy someone. They where on the front cover of the Yass Tribune if you want to find out his last name.
Canberra on YT! One of the underrated capital cities on Earth for those who hate the concrete jungle. last I was there in 1996, idyllic suburban mix. ANU - great uni. I hope it hasn't changed much. I always love the seasons there. The only bad experience while I was there: I got stopped by the cops for not wearing a helmet while cycling!
Yes, it is not snow. 'Hail' is common throughout the year in the cool temperate regions of Australia, it is not out of the ordinary. There have been reports of large hail over 2cm as far north as Katherine and Kununurra in the tropics so it is not out of the ordinary here :)
i was in tassy wen this happend nd wen we got bak the water system had been destroyed from hail so the entire garden was dead nd our tree out the bak was stripped
that was an amazing storm. it looks like snow, but it was all hail, some as thick as 4-5cm. cars were recked, glass smashed, trees destroyed etc not to mention all the water! i had a water fall in my backyard Lol. Canberra recovered well!
wow, it looks like snow. i remember that when i only saw the hail during the daytime though, so it didn't seem as bad, but all the trees in our backyard were completely stripped :(
People from overseas who watch this video might just think "so you got some snow, big deal". Some people may not even realise that all that white is JUST HAIL.
American who lived in Weetangra and later Hawker. Love the lightning pics!! I think it flurried a couple times when I lived there, so this is really something. I live in a place where it snows all the damn time and I hated it so I moved to Virgnia Beach.
ChrisRodrigi if you made any sence, and could write in a sentence typical of an Australian I believe that you were from Australia. But saying things like "Brisbo (hometown)" and "we don't get snow in Aussie territory" make you only a lier about where you live but also a clueless clown. It's Brissy not Brisbo, and it snows in at least half of the states of this great land namely TAS, VIC, NSW, ACT & SA. Leaving only QLD & NT, and I can't even be sure of QLD during a cold winter..
oh and Chris I've just noted your 15, so yer no hard feelings, just don't make incorrect statements and then continue when your clearly wrong. If your not sure Google it ;)
Yeh, that storm was awesome. I remember that it happened when they were building new parts of Canberra Centre and all of this water was pouring through the roof.
I guess it never snow in canberra, not enought to the south, right ?
for those who like the thunderstorms I've done a little video called "night thunderstorm in paris", it's one hour of flashes reduced to 20 seconds with video editing
Clearly you care about people's misspellings more than what they are trying to say (making a point etc..). Besides, mate, the chap wasn't that far off of typing "important". It's not like your English vocabulary is any better. NO ONE is perfect, mate. Escpecially on YouTube. I don't think they need chumps like you being an online teacher and trying to be the sensitive one. It's a little embarassing by contridicting yourself.
I'm almost certain my English vocabluary is better than yours. I'm contradicting myself now? Do you even know what a contradiction is? Clearly no because otherwise you would have used it in the right context. Hope you have fun being a bogan fuckwit up in Brisbane. Its pointless talking to dumb asses like you.
Actually, mate, I think your the dumbass: For insulting other people on a fucking internet website. And yes, I do know what contradicting is. It means that you express the opposite of what your original statement--kind of like a hypocrite. And don't question other peoples authority; nor don't underestimate them. Your clearly not the 'perfect' one. I'm only 15, mate.
I think the main thing to remember here is that it is FEBRUARY... usually get bushfires and 40 degree celcius days... not freak storms that drop hail everywhere looking like snow
I think you are the stupid one.. Australia doesn't get snow because of our climate. Right now it's fall. Re-search, mate, and maybe you'll think before you speak.
What does being from Brisbane have to do with being stupid?
Gee, maybe you can think before you speak-escpecially on the internet, mate. I met to say that Aussie territory gets to experience snow in the Western side. This is activated in the mountains (Near Alabany--Stirling Range). This is a rare phenomenon and very few people get to see it. I live in Brisbane, and WE do not find or witness snow. And also, we also call it fall (Autumn, Crispy etc..). There's a connection to the North American culture. So I'd shut up. I'm not stupid.
I remember that. My family and I just got back from vacationing in Kiwi country. Once we got to Brisbo (hometown) we didn't get hit as bad.. So I thought. It was awkward cause I thought it was snow and we don't get snow in Aussie territory.
Holy crap! You guys got owned. Very impressive storm, certainly not out of place for storm damage that you would see in the central plains of America. Nice video of a storm that obviously "eats young souls"!
wow, it looks like snow. i remember that. i only saw the hail during the daytime though, so it didn't seem as bad at the time. all the trees in our backyard were completely stripped of leaves
I was working in a hotel on Northbourne Avenue during the storm. It was absolutely incredible. Never seen so much water and ice fall to the ground in such a short period of time! Out of this world!
