I don't think there's anything wrong with clones of games. I think that it's okay to derive from existing games, as long as the new game brings new features. Improvement on old concepts isn't a bad thing. I think that companies should strive to improve what already exists instead of trying unorthodox new experiments that may or may not work and prioritizing invention over quality.

I know, Minecraft is the big thing, and I love minecraft, but why does everything have to be a minecraft clone? Yes, its a square block based game where you can create stuff. But minecraft wasent the first one. Why not call it a Ace of Spades clone,its almost the exact same as this. Or why not a Infiniminer clone, minecraft is based on Infiniminer. Brick-Force has a completely different gameplay, so this isnt a clone. But Manic Digger is a clone for example, or FortressCraft. Minecraft was only INSPIRED by infiniminer, but not cloned. But nearly All other clones after minecraft want to be like minecraft! Not like a Blocky shooter etc! Sorry for bad english.
