Thank you for posting this beautiful memory. As a child of the 60's I remember this as one of the songs we sang when we were forced to gather, be it after some hero, leader, or President was imprisoned, brutalized, or even killed. To collectively gather sustenance, courage, faith in the aftermath of police actions/civil unrests to go on. Be we just afraid to return to our community centers, schools, or churches. Our music was not always protest songs.

I used to play my "Impressions" album all the time when I was a freshman in college, and I loved this song best. The girls in the dorm used to laugh at me and call me "The Soul Sister."
