  • Fabulous...my faves from these guys are "SisterLove" and "That's What Love will Do". I heard both first by the Liverpool Five and they turned lots of their fans into Curtis Mayfield lovers.

  • Magnificence! Sometimes, once in a great while, a work of art inspires, reflects and illustrates a people's aspirations and their vision. Brother Mayfield and The Impressions did that for us. This is a classic. RIP, Brother. Recommended:"We're a Winner", "Choice of Colors" and "Keep On Pushin' ". all by the Impressions with Brother Curtis at the helm. krxn11

  • madeon

  • @eArtrash No, Mayfield.

  • happy song :D

  • wow!! this harmony just blows me away!! now, people don't even sing...they talk a song. ummm, maybe the con't sing? huh, maybe?

  • Still one of the best ~ and ever how close that guitar is to Cornell Dupree's style, and intro to "Tears of a Clown"? Love the tempo .. when it came out, I was stunned when it first came over the radio - which, at the time, was just a small transistor radio, teeny speakers. Sounded great, and the message came through loud and clear.

  • i may be 14 but i <3 dis song

  • the Impressions songs always touched my soul, maybe it was Curtis Mayfield's voice.

  • What a beautiful piece of music. RIP Curtis.

  • HMMMMM sounds awfully familiar to a John Mayer song......... what a unoriginal dick................

  • Oh Jesus why don't they make song like this anymore? It's so touching.

  • Glory Hallelujah Jesus. This is an awesome song. People get ready Jesus is coming back.

  • great tune...bob marley took one of the verses for one love...great

  • if there are old school brothers like me out there you know this and the song "A change is going to come were the most moving song of that era.

  • @MrBernellbruce - You refer to Sam Cooke's "Change", yes? That was the first forward-looking song of our generation. There is a clear full-sound audio file at youtube.com/watch?v=48K5Y0421Ig . Peace, from an old school sister.

  • People Get Ready

    The Lord is coming!

  • makes me cry every time

  • @EndlessAwesomness Tthe Lord does that. Happy tears

  • @EndlessAwesomness for reals huh!? idk why it jus does! :')

  • oh baby thats what I like

  • like luxury milk chocolate for the ears!

  • if I didn't know better.. I'd say John Mayer ripped this for 'Waiting On The World To Change'...

  • @jacoballenmusic Mayer's Heartbreak Warfare also borrowed U2' riff from the song 'Bad'.

He admitted himself he uses samples from other songs.

Well atleast he knows how to write lyrics.

  • @ps34evah yeah, I remember that interview, I liked how he said 'his sound' was the sound he creates when he fails to sound like his influences. Pretty cool. And absoloutely! Looking forward to his new material...

  • a really great song. i hope that everybody who hears this will remember Caylee Anthony. May she rest in peace when justice is served

  • this is a really great song. i loved it ever since i first saw it on an episode of Head of the Class and then Rod Stewart's version. now i end up thinking about Caylee Anthony. May she rest in peace.

  • this song is one of the reasons the movie glory road is my favorite...

  • このゆったりしたテンポが落ち着きます!!

  • I remember as a kid growing up in the 60's and hearing this man's beautiful soulful voice. Everyone of all races counted on this brother to always deliver a strong and uplifting message of hope and strength. And to think Jerry Butler was Curtis's very close friend and musical genius partner. This brother was a disciple, a saint, and a messenger. When that train comes, I'm getting on it !

  • where's the train? I want to board it. come with me to the land of love and freedom, where we put aside all gudges and hate, and leave them in the past. open the heart, have faith in god, stop the fighting and wars which are destroying us and our loved ones. I grew up in the turbulent 1960's and have seen it all. war is not the answer for only love can conquer hate. former u.s. marine vietnam.

  • Dis is a Classic 4 real!!!!!!!!!

  • Classic. Enough said!!!!!!

  • Love Curtis, he had a silky voice, I miss him, rip Mr. Mayfield

  • everyone knows!

  • A Civil Rights Movement anthem. Never forget history. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Knowmads - sunrise, look it up

  • Is this song about the rapture?

  • @BassGeekJack Pretty clearly, yeah.

  • @BassGeekJack haha, no...its about creating god's kingdom here on earth...the train is merely metaphorical. as the lyric says, "there's hope for all." rapture ideology implies that most will not be chosen, no matter how they live their lives or relate to god.

  • This song goes both ways "gospel" & "R&B" This Song touches my soul!!!! God Bless C. Mayfield R.I.P.

  • My taste in good music brought me here!

  • A wonderful version of this song is sang by the Blind Boys of Alabama. Great soul tune.

  • Just beautiful.

  • CAPOLAVORO ASSOLUTO!

  • Sometimes it(our music) was a source of the "soul power" only some seem to remember it as. One of the budding sources of a "black" 'cultural' revolution. Which I think sometimes stood for the power of the human spirit to collectively stand up for what was right, even in the face of all odds. So at times, these were the nursury rhymes of our childhood, imbuing us with the lessons of soul power. Share with your youth of all ilk. As authentic not stereotypical black heritage. Lest we/they forget!

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful memory. As a child of the 60's I remember this as one of the songs we sang when we were forced to gather, be it after some hero, leader, or President was imprisoned, brutalized, or even killed. To collectively gather sustenance, courage, faith in the aftermath of police actions/civil unrests to go on. Be we just afraid to return to our community centers, schools, or churches. Our music was not always protest songs.

  • I'm not a religious person, but there are some songs that are too beautiful to deny any message they send.

    Fantastic.

  • @Joetehpsycho "She said 'Son, are you a Christian?' I said ' Ma'am, tonight I am.'"

  • @Joetehpsycho My father was't to religious either ,but this was one of his fav songs .Well said psycho.

  • my my my....beautiful

  • heard this on the Corner..! very sad at the end when gary died. and this song was playing

  • the message is clear to those who see

  • i love when song's like this end , the end so beautifully xx

  • my dad saw last night in london said they were great and the replacement for Curtis Mayfield was amazing

  • god i love this song

  • HAVE PITY ON THOSE WHO'S CHANCES GROW THINNER, FOR THERE IS NO HIDING PLACE FROM THE FATHER OF CREATION...

  • This song cheers me up no matter how much trouble i go through

  • Nothing beats the original.

  • The song seriously just is so beautiful.

  • man this is real music before that autotune shit they guys NEEDED to sound good on their own

  • Very spiritual song that is needed now-a-days. So many need help. Great song.

  • eden... it's an endless world. dat ending mang ;_;

  • singing to Jesus with all love, and respect. ღ ۵

  • Get on The Bus!

  • when it comes to pure heartfelt soul, curtis mayffield and the impressions stand alone on top of the world. this has got to be one of the most beautiful, loving songs ever! " there ain't no room for the hopeless sinner", who would destroy all mankind just to save himself ". the message is still love people! only love can conquer hate. former u.s.marine. vietnam

  • Faith is the key :)

  • love this song and the message behind it , glory to God

  • listen and learn

  • GOD IS GOOD

  • @benn7475 YES HE IS!!!

  • I used to play my "Impressions" album all the time when I was a freshman in college, and I loved this song best. The girls in the dorm used to laugh at me and call me "The Soul Sister." But the meaning of this song is so beautiful. "Just thank the Lord." God blesses us in so many ways that we don't even realize. All He wants is our love and gratitude,

and He gives us o ur lives, and His grace. So, with all my heart and tears in my eyes, I

    say, "Thank you, Lord."

  • Some songs are made for the ears and then there are some songs (like this one) that are made for the soul! :)

  • @kewlbassplayer beautifully put!

  • My prayers are for the people of Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Haiti & right here in the U.S. Disasters are running rampant in this space & time. My hope is that you and yours are in a safe and ready mode. Please give thanks to the strength that each of us is blessed with that we may be able to have a hedge of protection around our families and loved ones. Also that we may be in a right mindset to lend a helping hand to those we can help as we travel along on this

    planet earth. Love&Peace

  • @tamaranow I'm a discordiast Australian that lives in Brisbane and got affected by flooding. I don't want your fucking prayers

  • @horndog646 You are a bitter little person aren't you? Prayers are a way of inspirational healing. When someone says "Your in my prayers" it means letting God know you're concerned. BTW: Never argue with a Christian. You'll lose every time. God Bless and Keep you well.

  • @Jantv81

I guess you're American. The USA and the Near East are the only places in the world where franatic religion will take you very far ...

  • PLEASE , the train IS coming...today is just part of the "begining of sorrows" Listen to the Lord. pray for those in japan today to have the scales removed form theri eyes so that they may live! prasie the Lord. Thank you Jesus for coming to show us the truth, amen

  • What a great song and a true song. "Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner, 'Cause there's no hidin' from the Kingdom's throne."

  • i sung this in chorus at my school

  • bob marley based his "one love" on this song.

  • Klassic music that makes you feel good!!!

    rip

  • In honor of my Brother Curtis Mayfield.

  • I love it and it seems sad when I hear this and what a song of days gone

  • Semplicemente stupenda!!!!!

  • Curtis Mayfield is a bad mofo! I mean... the soundtrack to Superfly is the best soundtrack to any film ever made. There, I said it!

  • "Curtis wrote that!" - the bus driver when I complemented his beautiful whistling of this

  • a real inspirational song...love it..these kids today need to listen and appreciate what this song really means..they dont know how far we have come and they put out trash music..whats positive about it..God help our youth..its sad..

  • Inloved with this song, this was features as sound track on TV series " Tour of Duty" was back in 1988. Got the DVD of the series in 2005 and looked Googled the lyrics. and now finally landed here. Thanks alot. You really made my years.

  • the freedom march, the voting rights, the killing of the old and young blacks, a time I lived through and missed, how was I so innocent, so unknowing. How was it that I lived in a country where this was happening and did not have a clue????

  • @mssjday We were younger, I guess, but think of where we have come, I hope. I remember those awful pictures of dogs and guns, Vietnam on tv each night. I hope we have learned something. I just hope that young people nowadays listen to the positive, not the negative. Love on.

  • I love you all so very much. I pray the sun shines bright on all your tomorrows and joy will come to all I hold near and dear to my heart. Many many blessings for all of you. Beautiful song. Thank you Lord.

  • biiiim
