  • @lwd347

This is Corelli's VARIATION on La folia.

  • e mi basta una sonata di corelli, perché mi meravigli del creato.

  • The Suzuki version isn't a version for dummies - I agree some of it he has messed with too much but you can still phrase it nicely and play it well. As xxclairevictoriaxx said, it's about how you play it; not which edition you learn it from.

  • "folia-for-dummies" made for the Suzuki method hahahahahaha

  • @xxclairevictoriaxx the suzukis foliia HAS A SOUL. I know about music baroqueand suzuki or other but you must never say that a piece has no soul!!!! If you feel the music around you like me you are gonna give me the reason

  • @lwd347 La Folia was composed by the famous composer A. N. Onimous...the dance itself is folk dance music from Portugal back from the Middle Ages/Renaissance, so for you to say "so and so composed it" must mean (1) you're REALLY, REALLY old (2) You have a working time machine. I'm just teasing you..Cheers!

  • Faaaaa. Wish my crappy violin could sound like this (to say nothing for actually being able to play this, my favourite piece right now), I know my hands have it in them if I keep practising from the few times I've played a decent violin, but my instrument is never going to sound like this...

  • I've played the "watered-down" Suzuki version more times than i can count, and i find that this, being the original piece is alot more interesting and challenging. This song is fantastic. Whoever the violinists and harpsichordists are, major props to u. That cello player was magnificent also

  • ...è come respirare, e respirare l'aria pura di certe mattinate luminose!

  • I liked this better then Vivaldis version eventought they are both great!

  • * edit* yes, I prefer explosive, not yes my I prefer bla bla bla

  • Really for my like Emilie Autumn's LIVE version (mystery track no. 2) is more expressive and thus (for me) more interesting you should listen to it, of course it's only my like.

  • @feydust I know that version. It's too quirky for me, and I don't agree about the expression at all. I prefer a more subtle, authentic approach.

  • @HARMONICO101 hahaha I know EA's version is VERY explosive and bold but, in its time this was (or at least was based) on a very popular Portuguese dance which was described very noisy and cheerful, thus I think this shouldn't be played too literaly; for an instance the variation that begins at 0:33 is a very sensual one and, being this a dance I think it shouldn't be played so sharply in tempo as it is here, but rather playing more with it... yes my I prefer explosive contrasts :D.

  • @feydust I don't agree on your opinion about a dance. A dance needs to be played very sharply in tempo, if the musician is going his own tempo, no one is able to dance to it.

  • @HARMONICO101 Couldn't agree more. It's just my opinion, but I really hate it when modern artists attempt to use classical music as a way to create an intellectual(ish) facade to their music, which is really all the same junk the industry pumps out every half-second.

Gorgeous video, great quality sound! Thanks so much!

  • @feydust I just seached it and I think she misses direction, no clue where she's going. She can play all the notes great, but she is just not living the piece, but more like showing off. But it could be my opinion.

  • I taught myself this for fun on the viola. Took me months to get it to a point where it was satisfactory, but the piece is wonderful.

  • imslp

  • I searched a lot for this! Thanks! I'm playing that 12 minutes version so it is SO usefull to hear all the parts finally!

  • I strongly disagree xxclairevictoriaxx. I know of a few Baroque music editors, and preserving the composer's design is NOT always their biggest concern. In the Baroque period, it was the responsibility of the performer to embellish as dictated by conventions. Those conventions fill large treatises, of which only several remain. With so little collective understanding of Baroque convention, some current versions overlook many aspects of the music, namely embellishment and melody.

  • all the broken f chords are really cool, I just really enjoy this song and the way some people I hear play it including all of the variations! Although when you are preparing for solo and ensemble and you find out they only want one particular variation you were playing it can annoy you...haha

  • That's only have of it.

  • Ahaha. My violin teacher's making me play this now. It's four pages of total complexity. -.- But it's pretty, so whatever. Haha!

  • although this is one of my favorite pieces from any composer, I don't really care for this performance...

  • I used to listen to this exact recording on my cd player as I walked along the ocean every day between classes. Some of my best memories.

    Phenomenal reading.

  • There are many La Folia its a traditional dance :)

  • armonico grazie del tuo lavoro ! dalla provincia di monza, emanuele , grazie molte

  • non si studia inglese nella provincia di monza? -sei su Youtube qui, non ad Amici

  • It's so energetic, so passionate. Thank you!

  • Read the description.

  • Always beautiful!

  • Can someone tell me if there's a website where i can download the score of this piece? Or can anyone email it to me if you have it?

  • I believe that there is a free score on the Werner Icking Music archive. Just google that and you should find it. It's not the best I've seen, but it's free.

  • Not bad!
