  • wow when i was little and remember watching these shows i remember that gene rayburn was a smartass but they got away with murder. its nice to know betty white has always been a sick and twisted individual. oh and funny too.

  • That's around 60K in today's money. Nice haul.

  • lol at the joke that went over everyone's head between 1:15-1:25.

Richard knew it was hands, because you can't just clap one hand, which is what Gene was getting at. They just weren't paying attention.

    lol.

  • Brett and Betty would make great belly dancers XDXD

  • This show is proof you really can have WAY too much fun on the job! XD

  • I love thi show. Its always so unexpected. they are really having fun. i love the personalities. they are lovely . we should try this again. but there was only one gene rayburn.

  • I love this show b/c they had fun. It was entertaining..

  • Wahahahahhahaha "I've tried Betty."

  • Two of my all-time favorite hosts on one stage...Gene and Allen. Good, funny, and true gentlemen at heart. They don't make them like that anymore!

  • What did Charles say when the music started??

  • @pixi2nv Charles said "I quit the act again." He was referring to an incident in the preceding episode where they also played the wrong music.

  • @dagdogg Watch the video titled "Match Game 75 (Episode 519)"

  • By far one of the best Match Game moments ever.

  • richard was such a chick magnet. on every show all the women picked him :L

  • I was thinking Thomas Jefferson. oh well.

  • Ok, what was the music guy smoking when he chose the tune? That's why Match Game is the GREATEST game show ever!

  • @gladfan1989 "what was the music guy smoking"

It shows that it wasn't just Gene Rayburn who was responsible for the terrific humor of the Match Game. The whole production team had that same irreverent mentality that made it a success.

  • Gene: "I've tried Betty..." I was hoping for Gene Rayburn vs. Alan Ludden duking it out for Betty. Oh well, still EPIC WIN!

  • hahaha.

    I QUIT THE ACT AGAIN!!!!

  • Goodgod the brunette's gorgeous

  • WOW this show really is Bananas :p

  • "Jefferson" ... SH*T!!!

  • He's right, this show is in fact, bananas

  • Gene Rayburn was the best game show host of all time!

  • @DDRUTOU yes he was.

  • Barker got #1 on the list. Barker had the price is right show for freakin ever. Barker has a studio named after him. Barker, aww, heck. Barker is #1. Rayburn could be 2, but Barker is #1. Hate me if you like, but I think so

  • @DDRUTOU It's like comparing apples and oranges. They both had amazing talent and could both think on their feet. But Gene won hands down when it came to irreverent, risque, Groucho Marx-style humor.

  • the host is fucking awesome!

  • If only television was this good today!

  • I've tried Betty. ;) xD Love Gene

  • she set it up PERFECLTY!!

  • i love how $500 was so much then

  • i wish i had 500.00 now!!!

  • This is one of the best game shows ever!

  • i love betty white.

  • Gene is so funny!

  • This show's not bananas...

    IT'S A WHOLE FRUIT BASKET!!!

  • it seemed as though the celebrities back in the day had more fun with those contestants than they do now; so personable & relatable. what can i say that was a different era--match game form '73-'76 was maybe the best four years of any run of any game show EVER

  • I love this show when I discovered it on GSN. (my cable provider has since taken that channel away from me..grr!!)

I love the inane questions and the celebrity banter. it was especially funny when they all got off subject.

  • "i tried betty" lol nice gene right in front of her husband u idiot

  • I QUIT THE ACT AGAIN! Great job, Charles.

  • This was one of my favorite game shows when I was a little girl. I love this. Thanks.

  • Love this show!

  • What a great show- before anyone had to woory a bout being politically correct. It was all just good times. Love it!

  • LLLOOOOOOLLL!!!!! LOVE this show!!!!!

I always match with Betty for some reason, so if I was on the show, I would pick her first, then if Allen was there, he would be second and Richard would be third, if Allen wasn't there, Richard second, and Brett third.

  • Contestant: Um, I haven't tried Betty yet.

    Gene: I'VE tried Betty.

LOL, perfect timing Gene. Love ya!

  • And the look on Betty's face says it all!

  • The look on Allen's face says it all!

  • Great show, you will never see another like it.

  • I love Brett dancing

    Go Brett!!

And i love the Betty White dance part.

    Go BETTY!!!

  • Dancing? Was THAT what Brett was doing? :)

  • HAHA I LOVE Brett's interpretation of belly dancing!

  • Maybe she thought the title of that piece was "Stars and STRIPS Forever."

    Lol!

  • ahaha omg i watch thiss episode overr and overr again all the time, itt is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too funny, ohhmygoshh wow brett & betty just crack me upp soo muchh, i love thiss clip, besst showw everr <33 :D

  • i would have said thomas jefferson

  • Me too,.

  • This show puts the current game shows to shame. Nothing like good, clean fun.

  • I haven't tried Betty yet. I've tried Betty. That was sooooo funny!

  • What year was that match game show going bananas?

    William.

  • 1975.

  • I liked Gene's response when she said during the Super Match, I haven't tried Betty yet. Gene's response I've tried Betty was great especially with Allan Ludden there. I like how he comes down and then goes back up there and the look in his face is something else.

  • Match Game is like the best game show ever, seriously. As GSN often has with some of their little in-betweens, you can't write this stuff. XD

  • This was the best game show...EVER!!

  • This show rocks!

  • Brett Somers R.I.P.

  • Brett Somers 1924-2007.

  • R.I.P. Brett Somers

  • "I've tried Betty." Greatest line ever uttered in the history of TV.

  • Could very well be. Funny clip, especially when everyone started dancing ^_^

  • What was Brett dancing?

  • I have no idea WHAT that was. I've been trying to figure that out for years! But it was FUNNY, nonetheless...maybe somebody had their tongue caught in the vodka bottle before dancing...

  • Richard once commented that they tried to slow down Brett's drinking:

    They bent the funnel.

  • That's true. There's just one thing about that:

THEY DIDN'T BEND THE FUNNEL ENOUGH!! :D

  • hah omg ikk rightt, that was soo funny tho :D

  • FANTASTIC. THANKS FOR POSTING! Wonderful times on TV. Wish they were back.

  • Thirty plus years later and this stuff is still making me laugh! Long Live Match Game!!

  • She's a dead ringer for the actress Madeleine Stowe.

  • how can richard not smile knowing she already won?? awesome stuff!

  • That was a common thing he did to build suspense. And he says "Unfortunately, I had Payne-- no, I had Edison"

  • Belly dancing to "The Stars and Stripes Forever?" Who'd have guessed?

  • FYI: Match Game can still be seen on GSN Mondays thru Fridays at 9am Eastern/8am Central and 3:30pm Eastern/2:30 pm Central and weekends at 11amE/10amC and 3pmE/2pmC.

  • HAHAHA! Love the part when the 'belly dancing' music starts and Brett comes down and starts shakin her hips , hands on head! Then Betty comes over and Gene is shooin' her back to her seat! Hilarity!!!

  • Everything you love about Match Game condensed into one clip. Fantastic!

  • Great clip, SuperPAC...the entire clip is a belly laugh. I love the "I've tried Betty" part the best.

  • What an ugly green suit and yes $5,000 in those days was a new car!

  • Man did Maxine screamed so loud that she busted both of Gene's eardrums. I hope I wasn't the only one who saw it.

  • The most fun Gameshow ever. Almost like a free for all at time besides being fun to play along at home. Go Bret!

  • I would have said Thomas Jefferson. (Great memories nevertheless.)

  • Has anyone tried Betty? THAT'S SO FUNNY!

  • Go Betty Go! Yeah Betty!

  • The host's microphone is like a Magic Wand...

Whenever he waves it around, I expect there to be a Poof! then a rabbit appears.

  • These rich TV stars all seem so glad that some housewife from the Valley won some paltry amount. It's just seems so sincere.

  • I don't know. $5,000 in 1975 was a pretty sizable chunk of money.

  • It still seems like a pittance compared to what they were making.

The Canadian game shows were worse. No cash, just prizes. Like a Brother sewing machine or an Osterizer.

  • @SuperPAC Over $20,000.

  • Well, at the end they mention she didn't win just the $5000 but a total of $14650. So it would have been a good chunk of change.

  • @IconWatcher I'd be happy with $14,600.

  • I keep on rewinding to the Betty part *lol*

  • So belly dancers dance to that kind of music? This is a classic moment.

  • This show is TRULY bananas!!!

  • So true, so true!!

  • Allen's answer is bananas!

  • Its nice to see Allen and Betty 2gether on another gameshow besides Password!Thanx Super Pac

  • HAHA! "I've tried Betty" and then Allen comes down. Hilarious.

  • Did he ever say that twice?

  • Match Game rocks! I love this show.

  • Oh! I LOVE catching reruns of this on Game Show Network, if only to laugh at the clothes and hair!
