  • And about not inconvenience of physical gold, and gold standard. There are credit cards that allows shopping using gold (just like you don't actually have cash and pay by your credit card). Also a company can use gold to insure their clients that even if it wanted it can't be involved in any rapid debasement.

And i guess if gold can be created out of thin air then the gold standard will no longer be viable, but if. Theres no danger of that in any conceivable future.

  • I kind of don't get why some people are so bent on keeping the money supply up with the economy. What is the difference if you have to adjust your prices because a company innovated; demand had changed etc. or the economy expands slightly. The modern economist paranoia with deflation came from the fact that it was destructive when it was violent and unexpected (just as inflation would be). Free market money would not be subjected to politics, but would it even be possible to hit the spot?

  • We could trade in hours, minutes and seconds. Pretty stable unit.

For every time unit you live you have generate that amount of value to the world and therefore you have this value to trade ;-) self generated trade medium.

  • @MichaelFreedom71 Yea but just take a look at wage rates, people's time is worth different amounts. A doctor has spent years getting to where he is, a labourer who thinks he is of equal worth by hour is just ridiculous.

  • You could trade in hours, minutes and seconds. Pretty steady unit.

  • one hand driving, dangerous ;)

  • not quite, considering the only reason they teach you to use two hands to drive is because years and years ago you had to physically twist the wheels and thereby using two hands.

Cars have become so advanced that one hand is more than enough. Or maybe I'm just annoying :P

  • Why do you drive around? Not to be rude I'm just curious.

  • I was commuting to work - ahh, back when I had a job, before I began doing this full time... :)

  • Lol nice

  • just remember I understand you're acting to impress some women, it's so low man, take less testastron hopefully you are less imposing and hypered, remember for us men your act to impress women send discusting shiver to our spine. sorry for being so harsh, but know your audience when your talking philosophy no drug dealer or user watching your video, pleae don't try to act machoo it's so awful. be normal please it's more pleasent believe me.

  • Hey man what kind of cheap drug you are on. driving while holding mic and letting stirring wheel go, you really making an statement for driving safe.I don't know why some people bother to listen to you. you are always over acting, and you're weird show off. some of your posting and acting up so funny, why can't you be normal man.

  • why is he driving???

  • Because podcasting while flying would be dangerous ;)

  • why not broadcast from home?

  • Oh I do that now, I've become a full-time philosopher! :)

  • Holy Fuck! Why would we (anarchists) want an economy? This global economy (which is unsustainable by the way) exists because of modern day slavery.

  • Look up anarcho capitalism. Anarchy isn't always equal to communism.

  • To have a critique of the state and not capitalism is useless, anarcho-capitalism is a joke. Both capitalism and the state need to be abolished.

  • May I ask you if you have any facts and proofs that can strenghten this argument? Without such proof for why it would be in the interests to do so. The argument is friviolous and pointlessly based on pure arbitrary emotion.

  • Well, you COULD read any of the millions of books on anarchism.

And I wasn't basing my response on emotion, but emotion shouldn't be left out of the equation, (but emotion doesn't have a currency value in our society, so I probably shouldn't make that arguement to a capitalist)

And I the fact that I have to have an arguement for 'people are tired of starving, and being slaves' is insane to say the least.

  • If you are talking about corruption (in business) then that it the result of the state in the first place since they protect and encourage special interest. You can't compete with the state as it is absolute in its power. This gives immunity to certain corporations/sectors. This is why we have lobby groups (big oil, pharma, etc) influencing policy in Washington.

  • No, he doesn't. Like all collectivists he has a set notion of capitalism in his mind, and refuses to acknowledge that market anarchism is a different species of ideology.

  • metroid; anarchy has nothing to do with communism, at all.

  • thirdly,

you only touched on this, but as a green party (socialist) member in the U.S.A. i tend think the role of government is to protect the poor from exploitation by the rich. Government has historically been on the side of oppressors, i think this can change - but that is my optimism and not grounded in fact or history. I recognize that, but also see a more educated populace arising around the world in our era than ever before.

  • Thanks for the comments. I believe that the govt will always be on the side of the oppressors.

And you don't need a govt to have a money supply. Gold was chosen as useful for that purpose long before modern governments came along...

  • my contest is who will control the gold mines though? This is one reason i'm driven from anarchy.

  • ...continued, whoever has gold and silver mines has free money; whoever owns lots of land has free food. does ownership then end too? Not having a government controlled money supply leads to the end of all private property.

does the government not enforce property law anymore? then some violent thugs will take the gold mines! you've traded goverment for violent thugs!

  • Listen to some other freedomain podcasts for answers to your questions, they are easily answered and not a challenge to anarchy at all.

  • using money raises the standards of living due to the problems with barter. You'd probably probe into those "standards" of living, but new technology and better medicine and education - for example - do matter to me. If not government, who would create the money supply? And what would determine the size of the money supply? - something arbitrary? or something of some advantage? Having a money supply leads to monetary policy.

all economic policy too is social policy.

  • *Sigh* ...I'll be sending you a bill for my time.

Your ideas are bunk. I'm sorry, but you're not the best argument I've seen for anarchy. Everyone's lying, sure.

Much wiser than you have proven otherwise, and they certainly weren't sophists. You are a sophist, sir. If you were more intelligent with your presentation you'd be a threat to the progression of society.

  • It is more mature to find logical fault with an argument.

  • There's nothing intelligent to work with here.

I don't know what your motive is, but I'll have no part in it. Are you attempting to start a movement? If so, what's your full name?

  • You've misinterpreted the intentions of this podcast. This episode isn't a comprehensive argument for anarchy, rather a brainstorm of how certain things (namely, money) could function in a decentralized, organic society.

And bear in mind that this episode is but one of hundreds (!), and you've performed yourself a disservice by dismissing anarchistic theory on the basis of one 3/4 hour-long ramble. ;)

  • "Much wiser have proven otherwise?" What? Proven the disutility of anarchy? Heh. I'd very much like some links, because I've not come across a good argument for the necessity of the state yet. Or do you mean "everyone lying"? First, your interpretation grossly misrepresent's Stef's point: generally speaking, individuals don't observe reality and thence draw conclusions based on scientific method and intellectual conscience, but defend their current conclusions with post hoc rationalizations.

  • Second, there is indeed a good deal of lying, or if you prefer, misinformed ignorance, spreading about through our information network.

"Threat to the progression of society". That's rather chuckle-worthy. I also like how you don't bother to explain WHY but merely obstinately voice your opinion as if it were axiom. Kudos.
