This was 2008, now I know someone put through a proposed paper for the law to change bringing abortion down from 24 weeks to 20 wks in UK, it did not get through. Is there any information on whether a decision of what doctors were instructed to do or was this kept quiet. Nothing has been in English media since but I am guessing this may be why the proposed paper to bring down the limit was put to government.

I aborted at 14 and don't regret it. I didn't do it to punish a child, or to get out the easy way- I did it b/c it was the only decent choice I had at the time. Child services would not take me from my abusive home, even when they saw the bruise son my face from my father holding me down, hitting me w/ a belt. I couldn't risk trying to carry my pregnancy&getting hit& miscarrying, both of us dying, or being forced to raise my child w/ my dad.. adoption was not a choice either, b/c of CPS neglect.

@archades54 If they face very high chances of death early on, yes- to ease the suffering of the child AND that of the mother- after all, if she was toherwise planning on keeping that child, it would be a horrendous emotional burden on her, and the child would suffer pointlessly.
But if the child is facing minor disabilities, and the mother is able and WILLING to care for her child, it would be kindof selfish it seems, but it's ultimately down to her to decide if she's ready for it or not.
@archades54 I would still have to give it the best life I could and if the child died of natural causes then I'd know I had done my best. When someone who has already been born is diagnosed with a terminal illness, we do everything we can to cure them or make them as comfortable as possible until the die naturally.

This is absolutely monsterous. I don't know of any pro-choicers in the US who would argue with saying that a child born alive is a person. In fact, we finally have a law guaranteeing medical assistance for children born alive. The UK is way out of step for not only allowing this practice, but recommending it to their doctors. If a WANTED child survives an early birth at 22 weeks, it takes a miracle for it to grow up like a normal child. Many have lots of problems like blindness, deafness and severe lungproblems. Many die as a baby. If a child like that survives, it takes a lot of love and money to raise it.

This was 2008, now I know someone put through a proposed paper for the law to change bringing abortion down from 24 weeks to 20 wks in UK, it did not get through. Is there any information on whether a decision of what doctors were instructed to do or was this kept quiet. Nothing has been in English media since but I am guessing this may be why the proposed paper to bring down the limit was put to government.

-c My only other choice was.. to run away at 14, and pregnant? Nobody wants to have to have an abortion, but sometime sit is the only option to prevent an even worse situation. If I got pregnant again here&now, I'd keep it, and actively seek an adoptive candidate from the get-go, but I didn't have that safety or luxury before, and neither do a lot of other women. It's so unfair- the women and their potential children. Child services needs to be completely reworked, to prevent this.

I aborted at 14 and don't regret it. I didn't do it to punish a child, or to get out the easy way- I did it b/c it was the only decent choice I had at the time. Child services would not take me from my abusive home, even when they saw the bruise son my face from my father holding me down, hitting me w/ a belt. I couldn't risk trying to carry my pregnancy&getting hit& miscarrying, both of us dying, or being forced to raise my child w/ my dad.. adoption was not a choice either, b/c of CPS neglect.

Just outa curiousity, if a child is going to be born 100% for sure with major disabilities, where their quality of life will be pretty much non existant and live with pain for the few months or years that they will live....Would you accept abortion as the most humane thing to do in this case?

@archades54 If they face very high chances of death early on, yes- to ease the suffering of the child AND that of the mother- after all, if she was toherwise planning on keeping that child, it would be a horrendous emotional burden on her, and the child would suffer pointlessly.
But if the child is facing minor disabilities, and the mother is able and WILLING to care for her child, it would be kindof selfish it seems, but it's ultimately down to her to decide if she's ready for it or not.

@archades54 I would still have to give it the best life I could and if the child died of natural causes then I'd know I had done my best. When someone who has already been born is diagnosed with a terminal illness, we do everything we can to cure them or make them as comfortable as possible until the die naturally.

Yes, because there's a magical switch that is flipped once a child is born where they go from non-human to human.... he or she was a human BEFORE they were born. The only thing that has changed is their place of residence and how they receive their nutrition and oxygen. A non-human being can't magically turn human because he or she no longer resides in the mother's womb. I agree with the rest of your statement, however.

Giving someone a chance at life is alot different then what that person chooses to do with their life afterwards, most Orphanages are required to give the kids an education so that if they dont get adopted they can go out and have the tools to get a job. FYI my mom was in a foster home also, and now she has a family and had me, so if someone chose to be a pedo or a criminal that was their choice

I don't agree with you last statement. But I do agree that this world really does need to make a change about the needs for an adoption. It just seems like the gov't makes it SO hard to adopt. And that def. needs to change. And I'll have to look up your stats about the foster care system, cause it sounds a little exagerated. (But I will research it) Also, if you know how hard it is why not fight for better care for these kids :) you can't go wrong cause you know first hand. Make a stand.

I can understand an abortion if a woman was raped and having a child would put her at a life risk with medical complications, but children need chances no matter how small. Adoption is a wonderful thing that for some odd reason can still be considered taboo.

Abortion is not a right, it is a service. Rights are those qualities and expectiations one is entitled to for being human. What ever happened to men's rights too? What if he wanted to take care of the baby? What about parents' rights? What if they wanted grandchildren to play about their feet? What about the rights of society? This is absolutely monsterous. I don't know of any pro-choicers in the US who would argue with saying that a child born alive is a person. In fact, we finally have a law guaranteeing medical assistance for children born alive. The UK is way out of step for not only allowing this practice, but recommending it to their doctors. I am completely shocked and appalled at this and that anyone could participate in this kind of practice and still manage to look at themselves in the mirror.

Consent to sex is not consent to creating a life. If anything, the use of birth control is a refusal to it.

Regardless of sexual activity, an abortion is a woman's right to decide how her body will or will not be used.
You can kill or jail a rapist or a slaver- a fully-grown and independent person.
Aborting a developing fetus is survival and right.
If you are willing, then don't abort.
If you are unwilling, then you have the right to decide how your body and life will be used.
