@judetunes1 I know, but instead of making plans to save money, she made it even worse. Honestly, if I were a hard working peasant and I saw her give all the tax revenues away to diamond bracelets, I would chop her head of as well. Like I said, she had it coming.
@MissSubinaGirl. Totally agree with you. This was an awful rendition of her life. The only reason I think they went with an American accent for her was cause she was actually born in Austria and trying to imitate an Austrian accent would sound awful! Hahaha
@MissSibunaGirl Sphia Coppola actually chose not to have them do accents. She wanted them to speak with thier regular accents. It has nothing to do with thier proficiency as actors, but the preference of the director.
I loved the job Sofia Coppola did with this movie. Sure its target audience is mostly teenage girls, due to its PG rating, so it may not be 'serious' enough for most adult audiences, but I saw it myself a couple of years ago in my mid twenties, and enjoyed it for what it was. I have to say, I'm not a keen watcher of many movies from the context this movie was from, and Coppola gave it a light, girly touch, to a heavy and dark topic. The outfits and scenery were beautiful and Kirsten was great.
Quite right. I am so tired of constantly seeing movies about the Revolution in the streets and it becomes so easy to understand how she ended up never understanding what went on since she was so horribly bound by etiquette to stay within the confines of Palace grounds. I'm more interested in the day to day life of her life as Dauphine, then Queen, not about yet another demented mob storming the gates with a distant view of what was going on in the Palace. Just Antoinette and her immdiate set.
I has another question!!!!! >.< okay i saw the movie along time ago already and I was wondering did Marie Antoinette have to learn french or did people speak to her in german?? or what else??
@RukiaKuchiki1555 the first day she came to france an escort spoke to her in german and she said "dont speak german, from now on i only hear french" or something like that, i read it in the world encyclopedia of biography
HEY ANYBODY AT ALL WHO LOVES this movie!! Sony was *supposed* to release Marie Antoinette on Blu-Ray in February 2007, but then delayed it at the LAST minute for freaking movies that were to be released in APRIL! Anyway, I have Sony's number/e-mail to request MA on Blu-Ray in 2011; I have had success everytime I try. :D Anybody who wants it, just reply back and I will PM you!
@adalia21 the bourbon queen bc then u have napolean and the empress josephine. and then napoleans second wife which was real royality and then the bourbons restoration in france
i don't care what people think, i love this movie. and who cares if it doesn't show the french revolution fully, it wasn't supposed 2 b about the historical part. it is supposed 2 b about her youth, innocence and her luxurious life of wealth and privilege. Its a tragic story but she made it funny and beautiful to watch, with the scenery, costumes, music, and of course the food!
@ContagiousRandomness preach! i think it is an interesting and different take on her life. it was presented in a way that shows how everyday life is/ was for ppl. u know nothing too eventful everyday. also i loved the costumes as well and most of the music just made it upbeat. the food was artisitc and i loved the sophias color palette. i also really loved how they portrayed her relationship with her husband/ fam and freinds. it showed how they were all just kids having fun u know
@fleurgi that's wat they were, they were kids, i noe ppl were sufferin back in those days but it was unfair becuz they reign & die in such a young age, especially when marie antoinette was tryin 2 change
I really enjoyed the movie but, it stopped where it should've taken off. Marie Antoinette was at the centre of the French Revolution; Time for part II Sofia!!
@bengeeman24 I think that would be the exact type of dark drama that she would be very interested in making a film about; and think of the awesome music she could use.
A few years back Ms Coppola directed a very dark movie called "The Virgin Suicides" (which also featured Kristen Dunst). I felt that Marie Antoinette cut off just as the audience wanted to see how the Queen's character was about to deal with such a contrasting life to that which she had known.
@pandapower96 naploean was a first consulate and then an emperor he was never the president of france. and also the french revolution was inspired by the ideas of voltiare/ rosseau/ adam smith and the age of the enlightment
I really love this movie. This is a biography of Marie Antoinette...even though not a completely serious or historically accurate one....Kirsten Dunst did a great job. She is talented but so underrated nowadays. Other actors/actresses were great as well.
This movie was so fucking inaccurate. 0_0

just imagine if France has a constitutional monarchy and a monarch really lives in Versailles. it would be superb!

Sucks. Why the hell does Marie have an american accent?! Wrong director and take on the movie.

@MissSibunaGirl Well why would French people have British accents in any other film? Does it matter. This is a great movie.

@cXcarolayXc If there were decent actors they could do a french accent. :)

@MissSibunaGirl True. But honestly there aren't many films that have the right accent for the right country they are in. Not really.

So, when will Sofia Copola make Part II?
I really enjoyed the movie but, it stopped where it should've taken off. Marie Antoinette was at the centre of the French Revolution; Time for part II Sofia!!

@Napp28 people didn't like this movie so much, so unfortunately i don't think there will be part II :(
MilenaAndjelic 1 year ago
@Napp28 I think Part II is she goes to jail then gets her head cut off. Wouldn't be the sort of thing Sofia Coppola would make a film about.

@Napp28 Actually that's a good point about The Virgin Suicides. That film dealt with a dark topic.
Although I think Sofia is done with those sorts of dark themes I'm sad to say, given her latest few efforts.
As a side-note I've read and studied The Virgin Suicides novel at uni, I really recommend it. Eugenides' writing is beautiful and lilting.
