There is an old poem about a little girl named Mary-Jane who wouldn't eat her rice pudding. the poem repeats over and over, "Whats the matter mary-jane."? this is a song about Alanis ovecoming an eating disorder. "I hear you're losing weight again Mary Jane Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for".She is telling Mary Jane, who could be herself, someone she knows, or just a generalized person, that she shouldn't worry about being perfect and how others see her. She should just be happy.

Ok ppl tom pettys song was about weed this is about a woman with struggles in her life, are you ppl high to think about that's all this song is about? I relate to this song about being in a relationship for years with someone who struggled with mental illness, I myself ended up being sick many times my wt went up and down,  i was not happy, I had some fair share of bruises too, I always wanted to make him happy and tried so hard. this song can relate to many diffrent struggle women have.
