  • This is macedonian land but not Macedonian song. Therefore, I ask you to delete it. In Macedonia we speak Macedonian, not greek!

  • @makedonec702 In Macedonia we speak Greek not your slavic language. This the most famous Macedonian folk song in Greece, from the real macedonians, who are of course Greeks.

  • MAKEDONIA ELLAS SE AGAPO

  • @jastvo FYROM only got the Name "Macedonia" under Tito's communist control. He was aiming to gain access over the Greek Portion of Macedonia so he could have a gateway from the Balkans into the Aegean and ultimately the Mediterranean. That video i told you to look up explains this.. look up also Greek Macedonia in wikipedia.. yes, i know this can be edited but it gives you a rough idea about the whole Macedonia issue..

  • @jastvo look up this video "It is quite clear that Tito invented the name Macedonia." Macedonia was used to identify most of Northern Greece such as Epirus, Thessaloniki and Thrace. Under the ottoman empire, the name was abolished. before modern Greece was established in 1830, Macedonia region did not have defined borders it was just "Northern Greece". The treaty of Bucharest 1913, gave Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece control over portions of Macedonian Region with Greece taking the bigger portion.

  • Gerakina is a Famous Greek Love/Dance song, it depicts a story of a man expressing his love to a beautiful girl named Gerakina. :) <3

  • @AshiharaNakatsu12 Correct! I didn't know that this song, a song from my local area was so famous. Thank you.

  • the best sound ever?

  • Theres only one Macedonia;the Hellenic Macedonia where Alexander the Great was born.History proves that. The small state north of the Hellenic border called:"FYROM" or "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" relies on Greece for its survival. If the Greek government closes the port of Thessaloniki,FYROM will not exist anymore. Therefore its better for the people of FYROM to become friends with us Greeks.People of FYROM dont listen to the propaganda in your country.

  • The Limeliters did a version of this song in the '60s. I can't remember if it was all in Greek but I remember they had a very hard time with the meter. There are three beats in one measure followed by four in the next.

That was the first Greek song that got me interested in the music.

  • @racefish

"Gerakina", is one of the most popular Greek traditional songs, created in the town of Nigrita in Serres of Central Macedonia. I 'm very glad you like it. (I didn't know that someone outside of Greece had made a version of this song - thank you for the information).

  • @gordios79 There are so many folk songs from so many cultures to even think of. I think people discount the folk songs because they don't think they are important. That's a shame because this music will be lost in time if not payed.

  • @racefish I think that folk music of every culture is very important and reveals the character of each nation. So it is of great significance to not let this beautiful songs lost, because then we 'll loose a part of ourselves.

  • Egw ena kserw... MACEDONIA IS GREEK....

  • @ApoSalonikios You wannabe, but you can't. Greeks got big noses and lie like Pinokio. Fuck you! Macedonia is one and only.

  • @2mi4ever

I agree that Macedonia is one and only and this is GREEK. As for the big noses of Pinokio you are obviously referring to your own.

  • @2mi4ever you are very funny... we have big noses? i don't think so... for big cocks i clearly understand it... MACEDONIA AND ALEXANDER THE GREAT WERE, ARE AND WE 'LL BE GREEK... don't lose your time trying approve the opposite...

  • @2mi4ever yeah,one and only...GREEK

  • Your video is beautiful as is the song

  • @Phillysoc Thank you.

  • Me poli agapi apo tin Souidia ! The name of our swedish-greek dancegroup is Gerakina ! So this is our dance ! Filakia !

  • i know the whole song off by heart

    lovely pics... the song means

gerikina ladyhawk needs some water so she goes to a well but then she falls in and she yells for help and her bangles are jangling. everyone in town hears her and all go to the well to see what has happened and one certain man comes through the crowd of people and falls in love with her... pulls her out and they get married!

i love that song so much

    gerikna is a true story

  • classic tune....traditional at heart

  • ''the falcon girl''....old,stunning from the best of best /may be the onlu traditional-best.......byzantine-traditional,northgreek sound.......

  • Beautiful song and a nice video, thank you very much for sharing...

I read a brief information posted by gordios79: "The story of Gerakina, LadyHawk, who went to the well to bring water and fell in..." Could you please tell me what was the end of the story? Thank you in advance...

  • happy end............

  • Bello!!!!

  • Unfortunately, the end wasn't happy. The young man went down to the bottom of the well to save "gerakina", but she was already dead. The story is true and happened in Nigrita, a town of Serres at 1870.

Even today the town organizes a festival, "gerakineia" to honour that girl.

  • Thank you very much for the thorough reply. Maybe this song has 2 different versions? Two other users have mentioned the happy end...

  • No, it doesn't have 2 versions: the song doesn't cover the entire story - stops when the man goes to bring up the girl.

I happen to know the entire story because I live in Serres, near Nigrita.

  • So, I can trust your words :-)

Thank you so much for the clarification and for posting such a beautiful and informative video!

  • You 're welcome. It is nice to know that you liked the video.
