Watch YouTube "Video of police assault on Ian Tomlinson, who died at the London G20 protest". Killed in April by police shoving him, like here. So the force used before the bike was thrown was not only excessive, but potentially lethal.

As many have said, it was wrong to throw the bike. The error was tactical (as a weapon, bike is too big - could hit bystanders. Bike U-lock is better, but not thrown - keep for multiple attacks), and strategic (no escape route). But her spirit is flawless.
