It is not deductable in Canada but I sure wish it were. Canada escaped some of the worst of the subprime fiasco but that was (I feel) mostly as a result of a more conservative banking system and did not, in my opinion, have anything to do with mortgage interest not being deductible. It should be a deductible expense.
