  • this song is magic

  • one of the best records ever

  • This song was done by the members of ultravox exept the singer was changed and sung by Steve Strange. The song is a classic.

  • I remember when this song came out, huge it was. One of the cult songs that won't vanish as easily as so many modern crappy songs from today's music industry.

  • the best of the 80's.......wow those were the days i wish they come back...

  • Disko in Obertraun Karambolage spielte das gerne !

Gruß an the Eggenreither Ralf und den Schlömmer Günter !

  • this song is the soundtrack to the way the world is becoming...all of us one day will 'fade to grey'

  • Absolute classic

  • This video would definitely be a lot better if it was using todays special effects technology

  • Look at the art of it funky. It's so 80's and fresh.

Does everything have to have Christmas lights on it before you appreciate it?

  • Alright, I agree that comment didn't sound good, but you missed my point. I'm just saying these guys were pretty creative with what they had, just imagine what kind of awesomeness they could create today. I bet it would blow our mind, not just be a novelty

  • Yeah funky, when it first came out it blew our minds as being a bit trippy. It was around the same time as "Ashes to Ashes" by Bowie (also a bit trippy). But their music lives on in my mind as it was so ahead and hasn't really dated.

    Cheers mate!

  • dont like the video but the song is great, Mandragora Scream made an awesome cover too on volturna... love it

  • che bella....ricorda in pieno gli anni '80

  • John McGeoch was in this band

  • In early eighties, there was a time that I used to hear "fade to grey" all night long. From the compact cassette of course, you know. So I couldn't get drunk because of rewinding the track to the start again and again. Nowadays, with mp3 it is much simplified. No further operations, just load and play for hours. The human population is... fading to grey.

  • all of us are fading to grey!

  • @andcovonschweidnitz

Unless you had a cassette deck with self rewind and restart ,the nackimichi did everything except serve the drinks :)

  • Unfortunately that one gone without any additional functions. But today even my washable wave gives the drinks :-)

  • ond 7" single you can do this also. with today's record players (for vinyl of course)

  • Good song but ceepy lady.Stll a Good song!!!!!!

  • It's funny how Kelly Osbourne pretty much used this song with altered lyrics and a new chorus and it was probably the only good song she ever did. She probably should have kept with the Synthpop rather than that whole Rock Chick image she was trying to pull off. I know I'm going to get a lot of stick for this but I actually really liked her cover/remake of this, obviously I love the original too.

  • I remember seeing an interview with Duran Duran in 82, and they made some nasty comment about not wanting to be like Steve Strange. They were riding high on the succes of Rio, and were anxious to distance themselves from the New Romantic movement, which was fading, and had never had much impact in the U.S. How sad that most people will think of Duran Duran and Madonna as the musical reps of the 80s, and so many great artists like Visage will be tiny footnotes in musical history.

  • I love this band!...If it wasnt for the likes of steve strange... the 80s would have been a dull place, Its a shame we all had to grow up and leave it all behind :(

  • no-one grew up

popular culture took a sharp downfall :(

now its full of artists re-using other peoples music, and "singing" 1500 words a minute

good old 80's slowly got left behind for the young generation of today to give credit to newer artists for re-doing classics! Artists don't write their own music anymore, just re-make or mix samples from older songs.

One good thing is that family guy and scrubs do play Don't Stop Believing by Journey :) showing the kids what music is :)

  • oooh yeah and obviously Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes :)

  • Good point dbimage, kids hear great tunes & don't realise that they're re-hashes & samples of classic tracks by other people. Kids... find out who performed it first! The originals are for the most part miles better!

  • (Y) ^_^

  • i love it more than anything .....

  • •Steve Strange (vocals)

    •Brigitte Arens (French vocals)

    •Midge Ure (backing vocals)

    •Billy Currie (synthesizer, electric violin)

    •Christopher Payne (synthesizer, viola)

•Cedric Sharpley (drums, electronic drums programming)

    •Rusty Egan (backing vocals)

    NO BASS!!!!!!

  • I dont udnerstand the comments of it having no bass, i can clearly hear a bass, its a synth bass people... jeesh.

  • It's a keyboard, not a bass guitar

  • Exactly... its how the music is, its synth driven.

  • I love it more than anything

  • I love this song above all the rest. Nothing musical compares to it!

  • I love it more than anything. Amazing music and video. Thanks to the sender

  • devenir inconnu,

    net as ik.

  • fade to gery more like art like

    a video pop

  • C était la génial époque, insoucients, une musique marquante...

  • great film clip and & a great song from the 80's.

  • like lots of 80's stuff. Good song, pretentious video.

  • lol very true. very pretentious!

  • i don't know about it sucking massive balls, it somehow scared the hell out of me when i was little, don't know why.

It's kinda funny really, that they took themselves soooo seriously. Didn't even crack a smile

  • it was a bit scary, wasn't it!! lol 'o)

  • yeah lol! i was about 4 when i first saw it. probably what made me so weird :P

  • this song i have been playing it left and right on my mp3. its an amazing tune

  • This song sums up the early 80's for me... the music, the fashion.... excellent!

  • impresionante...

  • weird video but good song

  • This reminds me of my OLD clubbing days at Club DV8 and Area 51! Saludos desde Salt Lake City, Utah!!

  • British music ♥

  • arty vid, takes me back to the early 80's

  • the best song of Visage.....great.

the begining of this video is different to the begining of the video i have.

  • cool make-up

  • great !!!

  • uncredible tune way ahead ofits time

  • Trop génial !!! j'adorai cette chanson - Chanson des années 80 encore une fois c'étaient les meilleures !

Cette chanson a bercé toute mon enfance.

  • guy reminds me of Data from star trek the next generation....if he were stranded on an 80's planet and had to make perform in horrible videos to pay the bills....

  • synth pop era at its top

  • omg i feel gay!

  • great tune, awful video, (even by 80's standards)

  • yeah man, fandancers ..xymox...great stuff and the best time to be alive...

  • just saw a tv advert, a new 3 cd is out now called new romantics the tunes are all on it about time

  • I hear Krafwerk mentioned and Human League etc.... as influences. And they were all in turn influenced by a man named David Bowie.

  • totally 'liquid sky' the cult film. always love this tune.

  • This takes me back to my night clubbing years at the Camden Palace in London, mid 1980's...

An amazing theatrical venue, where one night I came face to face with Steve Strange in the 'Upper Circle' balcony, overlooking the dance floor...

We were all fashionably cross-dressed, which was the in-thing!

Does anyone else remember this venue?

  • could it be BLITZ???? or LE KILT???? there were so many good venues at that time.... these are the 2 that I distinctly remember...

  • hey cousi were you at the blitz? you must be an old fucker like me! remember the terrible times getting on the tube!

  • Can't recall the venue's theme night name...it was 20 something years ago, when I clubbed there amongst the 'weird and wonderful'!!!

In the 80's, nightclubs were full of drama!...all about "strike a pose" and 'cat-walk pouty attitude', stylish costume and cross-dressing!

  • yeah, sweet, i cant recall the theme night name....you've got me on that one..... and indeed, i agree with you entirely mr pleaseadopt....clubbing was full on androgyny, and going out to SEE AND BE SEEN...hours on make-up and theatrics for dress.......oh if we could only go back to it all.......cheers dude!

  • BLITZ

  • from 1:11 to 1:21 it sounds like a moby song in this world?

    Moby Inspired by Visage?

  • It was a "Blade Runner" time as well.

  • It was a great time of musical creativity.

  • this track was ahead of its time by light years, possibly trance in its very beginning form. kelly osbourne did a nice job with "one word". a nice homage to the originals. but this is still the best.

  • how can music nowadays compete with the epic 80's, i guess music now is bad just because the best has already passed us. sad for the ones that don't know any better.

  • visage, soft cell, yazoo, eurythmics, new order

    THE TECHNO CHIEFFS

  • yes they all came after KRAFTWERK, HUMAN LEAGUE AND CABARET VOLTAIRE !!!!!!

  • noisia remix of this i think brought this tune back :)

    its so epic

  • Just takes you back to the best times!

  • Amazing classic and video.

  • What do you think this song is aboue? I wonder if its about that the media and the world of adverts makes us feel as dull as grey.

  • absolute classic

  • incredible ! , thanks to you tube , i could hear this again ,.... otherwise, it was forgotten music ! .... thanks !

  • The girl at the beginning of this video is so pretty :)

  • timeless...simply timeless!

  • It's NOT "stereo". Wilson: You Lie!

  • People people hit the drum and bass remix by noisa and have your minds blown

  • unbelievable track and video

  • hostie!!!que de bon souvenir sur le banc arriere de mon vieux oldsmobile!!

  • j'adoooore!!

  • strange!!!

  • STEVE!

  • This true 80's nostalgia. Thanks to this track and video, the memories of this great decade just come flooding back. Thanks alot..

  • "Ahh ahh, de är Svensk Fadöl"

  • This "New Romantic" hit from 1980 was the beginning of a new era. Fabulous!!

  • Comment removed

  • This was the song Adam Clayton was attempting to play when he accidentally came up with New Years Day

  • I bet the edge wrote all their early basslines for him, that guy can hardly play.

  • The Edge can't play bass either, your comment is strange and meaningless

  • Comment removed

  • That was uncalled for.

  • anyone who plays gat can play bass bass is easy

  • Bass is not easy, bass and drums are what holds any good band together. Have a look at Les Claypool, Cliff Burton, Flea, John Entwhistle, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Sting, Mark King, Jeff Ament, Colin Greenwood.

All Those guys have a huge talent and every one of them are incredibly important to the sounds of their bands.

You are just a tone deaf moron who is just trolling for arguments.

  • and you "no" nothin about spelling or grammer! Boo YA!

  • oh no i must be as dumb as MOOMOO1337.get a clue

  • I didn't say I liked it, you're an illiterate moron. Trying to take the high stance when you already made a dickhead of yourself just shows how idiotic you really are. You are in the top 10 morons on youtube, probably top 3 behind Chris Crocker and Numa Numa guy

  • iv never had a day job and being illiterate hasnt stopped me earning over 4.3 million in under 3 years working only 1 nite every other week.what do you do ?work behind a counter at a fast food joint .and what does EVEM mean i thought someone who makes a big deal about spelling and grammer might be able to spell a very basic word ha ha you fool get back to your homework little kid

  • If you made 4.3 million 1 night every other week then you definitely didn't do it playing music, I would be shocked if you did. You are a world class bullshitter thats $57000 a night, who would pay a non-entity like you $57000 a gig?

Also, if you're trying to be a spelling smartarse then do it correctly, it's grammar. Get back to your night class little boy.

  • 4.3 million, are you single PMSL

  • lol, 4.3million you complete and utter fuckwit .

that comment actually made me laugh :)

you should try comedy rather than music you fat cunt

4.3m you oxygen starved brain donor.

    lol.

    your a joke.

  • Another thing f**knuckle, there actually is no bass in this song you tone deaf idiot

  • who said there was bass in this song .i didnt so what you talking about cant you read.and since ive played bass and guitar in over 20 bands and 30 years i think i have the experience to tell you bass is easy.thats not an opionion thats a fact.you also have no clue to what tone deaf means do you?and dont even try to tell me whos good and who holds a band together .you may play bass so your trying tell people how hard it is .if you find it hard its because you lack the motor skills to co ordinate

  • 30 years playing and you don't evem know a synth bassline over a real one, you must be really shit. I played for 17 years and I worked it out straight away. Don't give up the day job. Try a night class in English though.

  • Ummmm, did anyone else notice 1:56? What IS she doing to that boy??? Ouch.

  • i LOVE THIS SONG §

  • que de bons souvenirs mais c'est la première fois que je vois la tete des chanteurs!

  • something really great !

  • 2 years till i was born.

it's not my fault i was given the shaft on the cultural spectrum.

  • LMAO!!!

  • Never sick of this song and the video is classic.

  • Grande canzone!!!!

  • Mitico video e mitici visage,viva anni 80!!!!

  • It is like Duran Duran's Planet Earth with some Peter Gabriel make-up... Cool song.

  • I fucking loved this in Ashes to Ashes

  • I love this song. Although I am to young for the original video when it came out.

  • I also like the gregorian version of this song, it's cool!

  • me faltaban 5 años para nacer!!! :O

  • Wild 80's parties!!!

  • reminds me of "One Word" that someone ripped off from this song...lol!

  • Oh gawd......

This is proof that everything we hear today is a re-hash of stuff that came out 30 years ago......

  • MGMT's "kids" bears a remarkable resemblance to this video.

  • Oh shit. I just posted a comment on the MGMT video saying that it reminded me of this video.

  • love it, 16 yrs old, wish they had this stuff today and not the crap now

  • some of us "16 year olds" actually appreciate what happened in the 80s

so stop critisizing us thinking were just a bunch of punks that dont know what music is and what it was
