You know the classic TD line-up was what made cosmic music! Listen to those Chris Franke sequences, Peter Baumann's melodic lines, and Frose's guitar work. Genius, pure electronic genius!
I've always wondered how much of their music is through composed and how much is improvised. As improvisers they really know how to stay out of each other's way.
je suis scotché! voir le matos sur cette vidéo j'en suis jaloux! je voudrai bien faire comme vous.j'adore ce genre de musique mais je ne peux point!!! faute de moyen!!! c'est super!!!un grand merçi!!!
Thanks for the tip about Artemiev and Tartovski ,I had a look at the vid on youtube called Pool sequence , beautiful! I must look at more of their work.
ROMANCE '76, that is. Though his STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT cover deserves no comments.
Can you notice the sample-sound like background here which brings back memories of other amazing character of the scene - WALTER(WENDY) CARLOS and his/her majestic TIMESTEPS on the CLOCKWORK ORANGE soundtrack?. Look out for her soundtrack compilation which includes the eerie but essential THE SHINING !
DESWEEF, we all cross fingers to find full version this. Should be at the WDR vaults huh ?
You only have to listen to the 3 individual solo tracks on the '70-'80 vinyl box set.Baumann's offering,'Haunted Heights'stands head and shoulders above the other two. However, that's not to say that Froese and Franke's tracks are bad. They are very good too.
Gem of a TD footage no doubt. I went crazy the 1st time I saw this here but luckily it's part of the Krautrock nacht tv broadcasts with tons of other MUSTS from those days. JANAHR, totally agree with you. Baummann was a big part in TD and this is easy to see after you hear his ROMANCE
You only have to listen to the 3 individual solo tracks on the '70-'80 vinyl box set.Baumann's offering,'Haunted Heights'stands head and shoulders above the other two. However, that's not to say that Froese and Franke's tracks are very good too.
This is brilliant an absolute gem. I thought I would never see footage of Franke Froese & Baumann from the 70s I think its cruel to say that anything after the 70s was worthless they couldnt just carry on doing that. In the 70s they were pioneering Rubycon was a triumph For me the Schmoeling period was awesome TD have really been several bands with Froese as the common denominator They have had ups and downs The very recent One X One and Views From A Red Train albums have some excellent tracks.
For me, Baumann leaving and the digital era killed TD as a creative force.Sure, since then, they have produced the odd good piece (White Eagle is ok)but nothing equals the '70to '77 period,in my opinion. What they produce nowadays is simply dross.
I agree with Bonzelite,They should release one album per year/maybe two years and put some REALLY good stuff(best stuff)on them and not realing so many albums.Even the greatest musician cannot compose 67 albums with good tracks. This is why onlly their early stuff and SOME of they late stuff is really good.
WoW. This is great footage. After flipping through some videos of TD here this one was what I was hoping to find. I would purchase something like this in retail with about three or four more extended tracks. I agree with others the patches and equipment is fun to see be used.
The most famous and prolific line ups of tangerine dream. Love those big old synths, would be great if they took them out on the road again with this line up. It has a strong visual element that you just cant get with a casio from woolworths.
I love the wall of analogue patch bays and "islands" of gear that surround each member. This is THE best Tangerine Dream lineup, with Peter Bauman. Once he left, TD was never as good. I do like post-Bauman TD of the 80s, and I like Haslinger on "Underwater Sunglight."
But after that TD began to pump out albums and I just never liked them as much. They must have about 67 albums now, most of them forgettable. But not the 1970s albums. Those are works of art.
The first 15 secs? He is playing a Mellotron Mk400. Just in case on his left is Mellotron/Novatron MkII and on top of it a VCS3. The rest is up to you :)
This video, and some other of Die Deutschrock Nacht series (Bathtube Session, Osiach Lake etc.) are also included in TV show Signale Aus Der Schwäbischen Strasse, essentially an interview with TD members, Monika Froese and some other people of musical business. Worth having even if you don't speek German.
Superb - not heard this before! Don't care what people say about the convenience of software synthis - you can't beat the physicality of real knobs and sliders! No?
to easy to say that...it's the point of vue of people who never took really the time to listen to their music... maybe u've read some rock magazine and critics...
But it's true in the way that the Pink Floyd influence can be sometimes heard ...but copied no... even Kula Shaker or Radiohead (etc...) are influenced by Pink Floyd...
this is the first time it seems I can see really Tangerine Dream play live in their early period, with also peter Baumann and the quality of it isn't so bad for these days, what a modular gear! one simple key but a lot is happening, and Edgar froese at work on his E-guitar, a typical motion berlin electronica style, experimentation and a big use of mellotrons, like moog sequencers as it were, and a music that seems to be never recorded nowhere until, a real surprise
lol no way. I disagree with you saying that the best lineup was Froese, Franke and Baumann.
TD's Music dramatically improved with Force Majeure, and I guess that was the start of their big change. With Tangram when Schmeolling came in, TD's music went uphill (imo). After Le Parc when Schmeolling left, TD's music went downhill. Especially when Linda Spa was introduced and had the Saxophone in some of TD's songs, it just ruined it for me. TD's best periods were between 1975 and 1985 imo.
everybod has different point of vues... some will even said that the the 85 -2005 era was the best...ok some will think that this is a E.T. point of vue...but Tangerine Music is sometimes extraterrestrial...so i can understand it... personnaly their from 1970 to 1980 era was my fave ...1973 to 1979 particulary
But well...i'm just discoverin the band...maybe in some years i will think differently
I dont agree-- this is TD at their best here --- Schmoelling took all the psychedelic punh out of them, theyve never been the same---- Chris Franke is actually the EVERYTHING in TD- TD definitely took a final crap after he left
Sure, everyone has their own views, like I was giving mine.
However I do disagree with you saying that TD went bad or whatever when Franke left. I would say that TD was alright with Paul Haslinger. I do like the Psychedelic stuff, but I just feel that TD did much better with Schmoelling.

Like the analogy to Artemiev's scores (until the sequencer kicks in, at least).
Interesting piano tape in Froese's Mellotron--predates the Kurzweils... He also plays an Elka string synthesizer here.
Christoph Franke plays a large Moog (that I believed that T-Dream purchased from Mick Jagger!), an Elka string synthesizer, and an ARP Pro Soloist.
Peter Baumann plays what seems to be a Moog 15, a Fender Rhodes electric piano, an ARP 2600, and another Elka string synthesizer...
