Id advise to stay away from any UK made Hiwatt. They are built owned by Musicground who are the biggest bunch or rip off merchants you'd ever deal with. Do some internet reasearch on Music Ground's reputation before parting with your cash.
@bencantona I actually feel like taking this video down. Vintage Hiwatts are pure awesome. If you want a hiwatt with gain, go for some of the 80s models. But even early ones, they rock like no other when cranked, and take pedals so well they can give you the perfect platform for distortion.
The Higain50 I had was highly sad. The clip here sounds good, but.. I never enjoyed playing it. Also it had horrible noise issues until I took it to a tech (wasn't the tubes).
@atastymint It really makes you realize how you have to doubt all the clips of stuff you listen to. Based on clips alone, this vid has the tone I want. But playing the amp? It was ok, but had no feel, felt like a plastic toy.
My Hi-Gain 50 SER 2x12 combo turned up about 2 weeks back. Since then it's done 2 gigs and is really good, especially for the price. It's the Chinese made model but it's UK designed, all tube and I love it. Rambo29, a cheaper amp that mimics the Hiwatt clean tone is THIS ONE. I got it off Aussie eBay for under AUD$800 to my door. In terms of bang for your buck you won't get much better. I suppose longevity is the big question.
Yeah, i had the same prob. with my Fender Deluxe. You've got to check te tubes, if they are old or out of service, they might go into a zoomin' sound. There a video of the zooming of my amp in my list
It was all I ever need for any gig in any bar, club whatever.
It didn't matter what the acoustics or the size of the club were.
That HiWatt was everything I could ever need.
It was stolen from me.
I hope whoever stole it died a slow, painful death and now rots in a special Hell just made just for people who steal musical equipment from working musicians.
i wish could find the person who stole your amp and kill them. but as you said, make them suffer a slow painful death. as well as the person who stole Jimmy Page's Custom 3 Pickup in 1970. i mourn for your hiwatt combo man.
thanx for the video .... but tell me something , where is the Hiwatt logo? make search in yahoo or google for the Hiwatt High Gain 5o Head picture and you'll understand
Nice amp...i want one since the amp get out! But i've been waiting for a clip to hear that! Nice men, thanks for posting that! One question, it's chinese, Korean, Japanese or English made?
It can depend, I think most are chinese made with a 'designed in england' sticker. Some were made in england during design of amp I think, not sure whether any still are. I think 'signature' series is the same amp but point-to-point while this one uses PCB. (just my guess, from descriptions).
I took mine to a tech after getting it and he cleaned up the wiring and other things you'd worry about chinese made, tubes were EHX and were fine. It sounded really good just after that cheap tuneup
Amazing

sure sounds muddy and bassy on the distortion for a Strat. Clean sounded great though.

I had a HiWatt Higain 50W combo once-upon-a-time.
It was hands-down the best amp I've ever owned.
It was all I ever need for any gig in any bar, club whatever.
It didn't matter what the acoustics or the size of the club were.
That HiWatt was everything I could ever need.
It was stolen from me.

Because they are the lowest of the low.

@atastymint I think, some pieces are made in England and some in China.

The high-gains that have effects loop/reverb were made in china(designed in england), the basic models are made in england.
