I lived at 2830 Grand Ave So before and after WW11 started, there was a iron foundry right across street from our house that went on 24 hour shifts and made all kinds of racket, only time they would shut down was between 12:am and 4 am on sunday nite or monday morning and what a racket they made, I was about 9 years old then, I am now 85 years old and a Veteran of WW11, Sailor in the Navy.
@emilythecat1 wow. that's great. we live about six blocks north and a couple blocks over from there, on bryant avenue near franklin and hennepin. will be sure to get your street on a video once it warms up up here (next week, hopefully).
thanks for your service, of course, too. have a good one.
I'd like to see a picture of the Grand Ave Bridge, I lived a half block from it on Grand ave back in the 1930s and 1940's And I'd also like to know what year them bridges were built, not by the WPA, cause they were all ready built in the 30's, them tracks are part of my memory of growing up. I'm 85 now.
@emilythecat1 ok, will get you a shot or two of the grand avenue bridge. the greenway runs along the old rail lines between, basically, 28th and 29th street south, running from uptown (just west of hennepin) to hiawatha/minnehaha (and past there but first it goes over the sabo bicycle bridge and then i don't remember what number street).
so, i'll be sure to take a video of riding past/near/around the grand avenue bridge next time i communte home from work. thanks for watching.
God I fucking love Minneapolis.
