I hiked the rim of this crater back in 91, and sat down on the edge on the opposite side from the visitors center. I could hear voices, but no one was around. Turned out I was sitting in front of a concave rock and it was focusing the sound of the people a mile away. It was a pretty awesome moment.

Thank you for the comment. All of these craters are fascinating. can you imagine if it happened today.  We panic when a guy stuffs his pants with an explosive. This would be off the charts. And reforming TSA wouldn't help.

Impressive. Astronomers established Vredefort in South Africa as the largest astrobleme found, but why the scientists don't establish the large shape depression in southwest of Hudson bay (Belcher Islands on its center), Canada as a meteorite crater? See Google Earth for details.
