I've carefully analyzed this music ;-) and find that I just love it to death. Van the Man sings and plays as if for family and friends, uncompensated and for no credit to himself. Just does it to make people FEEL something. I know there's more to it, but who cares. It's music, not religion or politics or ethics or anything to protest or categorize. Relax . . . enjoy!

Thanks for posting this song. When my godmother and aunt heard it, she made me promise to sing it at her funeral, which I did. I'll be singing it again this weekend in Chicago at my mother's memorial. It's an emotional song when we lose someone to the other side of the veil. Thanks again for refreshing me on the lyrics.

@realvsmith: That means that to establish whether a piece of music is Irish or Swedish, folk or jazz or dixieland we will have to define some set of musical properties concerning chord progressions, scales, counterpoint, harmony etcetera. So we will have to get a little bit technical.It's very nice that you like this paticular song, so do I, but a certain thing "you feel" is not very useful in defining the Irish or Celtic origins of it. Better leave that to the musicologists.
