@TurkSilahKuvveti The screwdriver is a Torx T6 and the pry tool is a "safe open pry tool". Both of these as well as replacement screens can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
i tried removing my lens (i think that's what you call the plastic in front of the screen) because i wanted to put a new housing i got for my blackberry curve 8520. the problems is that is as come of and left glue behind all over the screen and crack marks all over the plastic. while i was trying to remove the lens is snapped. HELP ME!
@MademoiselleJodi Yes, that is the lens. Sounds like you need a replacement lens. Replacement lenses are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. We also include free pre-cut adhesive with our lenses.
@GaryDomaz Normally you can reuse the old adhesive off the lens, however new adhesive will insure a nice seat, so no dust will get under the lens. Pre-cut adhesive can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
I want to change my screen cover, and when I was removing my screen..I feel like I have removed between the adhesive and the screen cover instead of the phone and the screen cover. Will the new one have an adhesive with it?
@mclem1902 You will either need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
@simpleearthling Normally this is caused by the wrong LCD version being used. Check out our video "How to determine LCD Version on Blackberry Curve 8520" in our channel to check if the correct screen was used for your repair.
@superkirby14 Very true, you can use credit cards, guitar picks, small flat head screwdrivers, etc. However the safe pry tools are very handy for these repairs and are made of soft enough plastic that they will not scratch or damage housing and other components.
@mozzo2323 The full LCD number will be 6 digits. The Rev1 Ver2 can be several models. With the full LCD# we can determine the exact screen version you will need.
@sophieenaglee You will either need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
@19ejandra90 Check out our video "How to Determine LCD Version On Blackberry Curve 8520" in our channel. This will give you all the info needed to determine what LCD replacement you will need. If you are having issues, feel free to contact us directly and we can walk you through the process.
@kevin619ize The screen can be removed this way, but not installed - you will not be able to attach the flex cable properly. You will need to get a Torx T-6 screwdriver to remove the screws to gain full access. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@themixedtape2 Its all about alignment and pressure. Be sure the bezel is lined up correctly and start with the top (may make it easier) and just work your way around. Use a decent amount of pressure but don't force anything into place. The clips should just snap together.
@illmatic33 It should stick fine, but many of our customers prefer to use fresh adhesive, to insure no dust or dirt can get trapped between the LCD screen and the outer lens. This adhesive can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@therealmcgimmick Very good point, you want to lift between the adhesive and the phone, not the adhesive and the lens. I can only image how difficult that would be.
@javierdasso We currently do not have that LCD version, however should have it available within the next week. Yes, we do ship over seas, our full shipping list can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com - under shipping policy.
@RepairsUniverse i dropped my blackberry in water and all the buttons works fine but when i put a sim card in the phone it keeps saying 'SOS' . How would i be able to fix it ?
@xxbabyrushxx Tough to say, It would depend on what was damaged due to the water. Could just be a sim card issue (might try a new one?), antenna issue, or even software/motherboard issue. Really tough to diagnose from afar, too many variables. A local repair shop may be able to provide more info.
My BB curve 8520 falled down and the screen is white. If i touch the keys I can hear the ''beep'', but the screen is always blank. Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.
@urko97 Possibly a loose LCD connection from the drop. I would suggest checking this first and getting the LCD version number. If the screen is still not functional, replacing the LCD screen will resolve the issue. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
Hi! I dropped my BB Curve 8520 yesterday on the carpet when i picked it up the screen seemed as if it was smashed from the inside and when i switched it on the bottom left hand side corner had this white screen my trackpad and everything works but i cant see my bbm messages but i can type but i cant see the replies i searched a few videos on youtube and it said something about the ribbon cable being detached and touching the 'motherboard' what do i do?
@WeeMcrackers This sounds like damage to the LCD screen. By "smashed" do you mean inky spots on the display, or other similar damages? If so, a LCD replacement would be needed. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
Hi! My BB Curve 8520 has somehow developed a "hypersensitive" A key. At first it was not working at all and my track pad would only work on certain screens. I took the battery out, dried it with a blow-dryer on low setting for about 8 minutes and replaced the battery when cool. This fixed all my issues EXCEPT the A key is now SUPER sensitive to the touch. Do you recommend taking it apart as shown in the video and trying to clean the keypad?
@beautyblowout Yes, that would be our suggestion. Check for any damage or abnormalities with keypad flex cable. We haven't seen this exact issue before but it is likely just the keyboard flex cable is either dirty or is bubbled at the "A" button. Only way to tell is to disassemble. Good luck!
@gangbang1971 Check out our video on this subject. It is called "Determine LCD Version for Curve 8520, it is available in our channel and will walk you through the steps required.
Once the version is determined you can find replacement screens at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@TheGamingKid01 Tough to say, sounds more like software issues rather than hardware which we normally focus on. It may be worth taking to a local repair shop to diagnose the issue. If it is hardware, let us know the part you are looking for and we would be glad to help.
@vectradv57kgn07 Does it charge when plugged in? It is possible that the motherboard may have been damaged. It is very difficult to diagnose water damage from afar, however If the phone is charging and being detected by a computer then it is very possible the LCD screen itself may be damaged and will need replacing.
@andresc123 The area the lens is adhered to is not part of the housing you are attempting to remove. It may not be necessary but highly suggested as it will make removing the housing much easier.
@baxtermfc The BB 8520 uses a T-6 Torx Screwdriver. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. If it only has one screw it is likely it has been taken apart before.
@ksefan97 Likely just a snapped / loose clip. I would suggest diassembling and checking it out. Adhesive strips are a great way to fix little issues like this. These can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@solf08 I do not believe you "have to", although it does help when removing the front cover. The lens is held in place with adhesive not only on the housing, but also on the LCD housing. It is a procedure we always follow.
@123cod6player Yes, you will likely need to replace the LCD screen. However there is a chance that it is the LCD flex cable / connection. I would suggest disassembling and checking this out first. If the connection and flex cable look fine, you will need to replace the LCD screen with the correct LCD version.
@dancewithmepipi You will have to speak with your specific service provider about your warranty, as they vary. If a single key is not working it is likely just dirty or stuck or not hitting the connection properly. I would suggest disassembling and taking a look at the interior side of the keyboard and keyboard flex cable.
Hi, i just wondered if you needed to glue the new screen lens back into place after or is there neough glue left on it to simply push the new one back on. also the screen lens is made up of two pieces of plastic, do you need to remove both of them before you can put the new screen lens on?
@kevine1995 We suggest using new adhesive, but it is not always required. Just gives it a better seal so no dirt or dust get under the lens. You will need to remove the lens to access the LCD screen. Thank you and let us know if you have any other questions. Adhesive, lens, tools, and replacement parts can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@boombang1234321 This is a safe open pry tool which is available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. We also have a few alternatives to these plastic pry tools available there.
hey my screen was working this morning half and hour ago and when i checked it later it`s just black, every other light on the phone works including the keeyboard and de LED red light, its just the screen which is black, could something be loose with the connections of the screen?
@juanjohalamadrid Yes, it is quite possible. I suggest disassembling and checking the LCD connection. It is also possible that you will need to replace the LCD screen. These can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@xXkortney94Xx This is the LCD screen. Replacing this should resolve the issue. Be sure however, that the correct screen is used to replace it, as there are many versions of the 8520 LCD screens. Check out our "How to Determine Which LCD Version I Have on 8520" video in our channel. All reaplcement parts and tools can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
i did exactly what the video said and got the right LCD screen because i compared the new one with the old one but when i fixed the new screen in, the screen in just black :(
@minkyloh Are you certain it is the correct LCD version? Physically all the LCD versions look the same. Check out our "How to determine which LCD version on Blackberry Curve" video, it has some more information about this.
@aznloung Yes, very much so. If the wrong version is used the display will likely only appear white. Very few of the versions are cross compatible in any way. Be sure to check out "Determine LCD Version For Blackberry Curve 8520" in our channel for more information about the location of the LCD #.
@MRtriplehorton Following the video in reverse should have all the major steps needed. As for the lens, if the adhesive is not "sticky" enough, you will need to replace the adhesive. Some glues may be used, but may be a pain. RepairsUniverse (dot) com has pre cut adhesive that provides the best seating of the lens.
@HumzaProductions12 I suggest making sure the correct LCD screen version was used. Compare the old LCD # with the replacement screens #. If they match it may be a connection issue. If it does not match, then the wrong LCD version was used and the correct one will need to be used.
I have a question, do you have to remove the LCD screen to replace just the faceplate? I'm thinking about ordering a faceplate and I want to keep the black LCD screen around it. Thanks!
@rebecamgi Water damage is tough, there are many things that can cause black screen, white screen, etc. Does it power on, charge, connect with a comp? If you can trace the issue to the LCD screen, then it is likely that a replacement will resolve the issue.
@rebecamgi Water can damage a lot inside the BB, so if the motherboard got wet and caused damage, replacing the screen won't fix it. If the motherboard seems to be working fine, such as powering on, receiving calls, vibrating, etc, then replacing the screen should fix the problem.
@batujohn No problem, great work replacing the screen. This type of issues is normally caused by a bad connection with the keyboard flex. Pop it open and make sure the space bar is lined up in a proper position to make contact.
@buzzey7 That would be nice but there is no reliable method without physically looking at the LCD screen. We have a guide that shows possible LCD# locations. Check it out in our channel.
@batujohn We do not have an assembly guide, but just use this take apart as a reference and reverse the steps, you should have no issues. The 8520 is a very simple repair. Good luck!
by re-assembling the phone, as mentioned in the video the lens is stuck on by glue.. would i need to put glue on the phone to re-assemble the lens again? and will all of the parts just attach back into position when re-assembling?
@dazpolz1 Many people re-use the adhesive from the lens, however we suggest using new adhesive, giving it a better seal and making dust/dirt harder to get inside. And yes, when assembling everything usually falls in place, follow this video in reverse and you should have no issues.
@beeBASMA The best thing to do is remove the battery, use a cloth to clean up as much liquid as possible, then place the phone and battery into a bucket of rice in a warm area for 12 hours or so. From there, all water will be absorbed and you can then test to see damage/usability. Alternatively, remove the battery and place your device in front of moving air (a fan) for 12 hours or so. These are the best tactics to deal with water damage.
@nobigdeaaal Are they turning or won't budge at all? You may need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
@Slayer10Man The 8520 is a very simple repair which nearly anyone could do. However you would need to contact a repair shop for quotes regarding this repair. Replacement screens can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
i got a new housing case and the person who fitted it left the screen loose at the bottom and therse dirt trapped inside shall i take it off, clean it and glue it back down or is there a better thing thing to do?
@RepairsUniverse Im going to take my screen off because there dust trapped behind it, do i have to glue it back down or will it be alright with no glue?
@IFranksterr it's the same for me. i wanna do all this because i want to clean my bb. do i have to buy a new housing case or can i use mine? i'm scared :)
@babbiiangell Use a very small drill bit on the stuck/stripped screw. Depending on the size of the screw and the size of the bit, it will either remove the head of the screw, which will allow you to continue to make your repair. Or the preferred method is to drill through the screw, removing everything but the threads, which can then be blown out..
I replaced the old screen with a screen from another blackberry curve 8520 and when i plug it into the charger the red light comes on but when I try to turn it on nothing happens
@David34B It is likely the LCD screens are different versions. Take a look at "Determine Which LCD Version On 8520/8530" video located on our channel.
@jay73158 This usually happens with the wrong LCD version is put into the phone, also a bad connection can cause this. Check our "Which Blackberry LCD Version Do I Have?" video for more info about the versions.
@babbiiangell You will either need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
@RepairsUniverse so lets say that i want to replace my lens. and i take off my lens from the phone. can i clean the screen and then put the lens back on?
you see at 0:52 how the screen has air bubbles/foggy glare on the sides, its because when you take it off for the first time you started taking off the upper layer screen, the screen has two layers and they're glued together.... when you notice in the beginning of removal that its getting that air bubble you need to go a little deeper and remove both layers.... the air bubbles are permanent -_- it happened to me on my first blackberry
what kind of screw driver did you use again? my keybad does not function at all. Im trying to figure out what it could be and I am wondering whether i would have to clean it or what? any suggestsions?
@yazyh If the full keypad is not working, it may be more than just dirt or dust. If specific areas are, disassembling and cleaning should hopefully resolve the problem. Otherwise, it could be a damaged flex or similar for the keypad flex.
@shanemangoo We have many models of LCD screens for the Curve 8520 available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. To see which version you have, you must remove the LCD screen and check for the part number on the back, starting with LCD-

hey my screen was working this morning half and hour ago and when i checked it later it`s just black, every other light on the phone works including the keeyboard and de LED red light, its just the screen which is black, could something be loose with the connections of the screen?
juanjohalamadrid 5 months ago
@juanjohalamadrid Yes, it is quite possible. I suggest disassembling and checking the LCD connection. It is also possible that you will need to replace the LCD screen. These can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
hello i my screen is all white with a blacksection where it landed is that the screen or the lcd??
xXkortney94Xx 5 months ago
@xXkortney94Xx This is the LCD screen. Replacing this should resolve the issue. Be sure however, that the correct screen is used to replace it, as there are many versions of the 8520 LCD screens. Check out our "How to Determine Which LCD Version I Have on 8520" video in our channel. All reaplcement parts and tools can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

i did exactly what the video said and got the right LCD screen because i compared the new one with the old one but when i fixed the new screen in, the screen in just black :(
minkyloh 5 months ago
@minkyloh Are you certain it is the correct LCD version? Physically all the LCD versions look the same. Check out our "How to determine which LCD version on Blackberry Curve" video, it has some more information about this.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
@aznloung Yes, very much so. If the wrong version is used the display will likely only appear white. Very few of the versions are cross compatible in any way. Be sure to check out "Determine LCD Version For Blackberry Curve 8520" in our channel for more information about the location of the LCD #.

@RepairsUniverse oh thanks ;D

if i change the screen, will it delete all of my data in my phone?
Alexaleahnn 5 months ago
@Alexaleahnn All of your data is stored elsewhere on the BB Curve. Replacing the screen will not effect the stored data at all.

@RepairsUniverse ok

Can you make a video putting it back together please
the lenscover keeps on falling off
MRtriplehorton 5 months ago
@MRtriplehorton Following the video in reverse should have all the major steps needed. As for the lens, if the adhesive is not "sticky" enough, you will need to replace the adhesive. Some glues may be used, but may be a pain. RepairsUniverse (dot) com has pre cut adhesive that provides the best seating of the lens.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
yh thnks it all worked but now it isnt showing the screen so it is just blank
HumzaProductions12 5 months ago
@HumzaProductions12 I suggest making sure the correct LCD screen version was used. Compare the old LCD # with the replacement screens #. If they match it may be a connection issue. If it does not match, then the wrong LCD version was used and the correct one will need to be used.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
I have a question, do you have to remove the LCD screen to replace just the faceplate? I'm thinking about ordering a faceplate and I want to keep the black LCD screen around it. Thanks!
boingboomchalack 5 months ago
hey!! mi blackberry got wet ): and the display does not function. Do you think that if i change by myself the display it will work again?
rebecamgi 6 months ago
@rebecamgi Water damage is tough, there are many things that can cause black screen, white screen, etc. Does it power on, charge, connect with a comp? If you can trace the issue to the LCD screen, then it is likely that a replacement will resolve the issue.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
@RepairsUniverse yes i can turn it on (: first the red light turns on and then the white screen appears.
what do you mean with if i can trace the issue to the LCD screen?
rebecamgi 5 months ago
@rebecamgi Water can damage a lot inside the BB, so if the motherboard got wet and caused damage, replacing the screen won't fix it. If the motherboard seems to be working fine, such as powering on, receiving calls, vibrating, etc, then replacing the screen should fix the problem.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
thanks :) did it all and was very proud of myself and noticed the space bar is now not working :( have opened it back up but not sure what to do?!
batujohn 6 months ago
@batujohn No problem, great work replacing the screen. This type of issues is normally caused by a bad connection with the keyboard flex. Pop it open and make sure the space bar is lined up in a proper position to make contact.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
Is there anyway you can tell which lcd screen your blackberry has without taking it apart?
buzzey7 6 months ago
@buzzey7 That would be nice but there is no reliable method without physically looking at the LCD screen. We have a guide that shows possible LCD# locations. Check it out in our channel.
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
are there any videos to help put back together? I've got it apart and am waiting for a screen but worried about not being about to do it properly.
batujohn 6 months ago
@batujohn We do not have an assembly guide, but just use this take apart as a reference and reverse the steps, you should have no issues. The 8520 is a very simple repair. Good luck!
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
by re-assembling the phone, as mentioned in the video the lens is stuck on by glue.. would i need to put glue on the phone to re-assemble the lens again? and will all of the parts just attach back into position when re-assembling?
dazpolz1 6 months ago
@dazpolz1 Many people re-use the adhesive from the lens, however we suggest using new adhesive, giving it a better seal and making dust/dirt harder to get inside. And yes, when assembling everything usually falls in place, follow this video in reverse and you should have no issues.
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
Can I use a T5 screwdriver?
freshboydrz 6 months ago
@freshboydrz The 8520 uses T-6 screws, but other sizes can sometimes be used, just be careful of stripping the screw.
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
i dropped my phone in water.
if i take it all apart now and leave it for a bit would it work
beeBASMA 6 months ago
@beeBASMA The best thing to do is remove the battery, use a cloth to clean up as much liquid as possible, then place the phone and battery into a bucket of rice in a warm area for 12 hours or so. From there, all water will be absorbed and you can then test to see damage/usability. Alternatively, remove the battery and place your device in front of moving air (a fan) for 12 hours or so. These are the best tactics to deal with water damage.

Why won't my screws come out! I'm using the right screwdriver but I swear they're like glued in...
nobigdeaaal 6 months ago
@nobigdeaaal Are they turning or won't budge at all? You may need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.

RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
Okay and you know the drill bit..do I have to drill in the phone or what?
babbiiangell 6 months ago
@babbiiangell Use a very small drill bit on the stuck/stripped screw. Depending on the size of the screw and the size of the bit, it will either remove the head of the screw, which will allow you to continue to make your repair. Or the preferred method is to drill through the screw, removing everything but the threads, which can then be blown out..

I replaced the old screen with a screen from another blackberry curve 8520 and when i plug it into the charger the red light comes on but when I try to turn it on nothing happens

RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
you see at 0:52 how the screen has air bubbles/foggy glare on the sides, its because when you take it off for the first time you started taking off the upper layer screen, the screen has two layers and they're glued together.... when you notice in the beginning of removal that its getting that air bubble you need to go a little deeper and remove both layers.... the air bubbles are permanent -_- it happened to me on my first blackberry

what kind of screw driver did you use again? my keybad does not function at all. Im trying to figure out what it could be and I am wondering whether i would have to clean it or what? any suggestsions?
yazyh 7 months ago
@yazyh If the full keypad is not working, it may be more than just dirt or dust. If specific areas are, disassembling and cleaning should hopefully resolve the problem. Otherwise, it could be a damaged flex or similar for the keypad flex.

@shanemangoo We have many models of LCD screens for the Curve 8520 available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. To see which version you have, you must remove the LCD screen and check for the part number on the back, starting with LCD-
