I don't understand Lucas at all. If he wants to make Blu-ray changes, why not just change all the bloopers and mistakes in the films instead of adding unnecessary stuffs into it? Like change the Death Star plans in A New Hope during the Rebel Assault briefing, change Obi Wan's lightsaber back to his own lightsaber rather than holding Anakin's lightsaber during the Duel in Mustafar etc. Holy crap...

I have both sides of the fanboy in me.

Some fanboys would like to time travel back to 1995 and kill Lucas with a shovel, and some fanboys are very sad to hear that he will never make a new film again or whatever he announced.

The massive ripples that Star Wars caused across all media are certainly still felt to today, and I'm totally fine with the prequels, Indy 4, and other stuff.

The original three SW films though, please give me multiple cuts.

I have the Bly Ray version and I like almost all the changes. They fix many things, like the lightsabers in the Return of the Jedi (wich looked weird in the DVD version) and the ugly Yoda puppet in the Phantom Menace now looks fine with the CGI. I don't see anything wrong with the blinking Ewok and Jabba's Palace biger gate, actually I like those changes too. Even though Darth Vader's "NOOO!" looks a little weird, in my opinion this version is by far the best and I'm really happy with it.

They actually blew a lot of opportunities with Phantom Menace, which I agree with you has its good stuff. They kill off Qui Gon Jinn and Darth Maul and with that they begin a tradition of having no significant recurring characters in the three movies except Obi Wan. Lots of people enjoyed Maul and he could have carried the three films as the main bad guy, but they chopped him in half. Yet for some reason they kept the Trade Federation alien guys?
