  • Hmm, I did this myself, then I called the local glass recycling company and asked if I could have some ground glass, got as much as I wanted, half a ton, for free. I can tell you its a lot easier ....

  • hunt for local jobs careerstarttoday(dot)info found my job this way

  • this guy a obviously never had a very small pice of broken glass in his hand and it hurts like fuck when you rip your skin off then try to pull it out with tweasers

apart from that nice vid and good idea

  • I find this video extremely difficult to masterbate too...

  • I would just fart on the glass mate, sounds like it would melt anything! On second thoughts maybe he could start a methane project?

  • use tumble cement mixer!

  • @cleric022684 or a washing machine!

  • I want to see something melting!!!

  • Ohhhhh Dan - you "semented the bar in".... Oh my God Dan - I love it when you talk dirty to me...

  • could you put it in a ball mill till you got the particle size you wanted?

  • Also an old paint shacker with an empty cans full of glass and river rock will work. Home depot might let you shock your glass in a sealed steel paint can.

  • Get a old food processor that you will never ever use again grind up the glass into fine particles.

  • 1.56 green power fart

  • 1.56 green power fart

  • you can grab that stuff off the beach, it's called sand

  • can you melt that to mix it together?

  • @Moroboi Yes, the soda glass is very heat sensitive so it needs to be annealed gradually after you form it in the melted state or your project will shatter when it cools. I widen the focal point of the lens by 3 inches every 5 minutes over 15 minutes to an hour depending on the glass volume.

  • It is important to know that Glass has a COE or Coefficient Of Expansion. Not all Glass Expands and Contracts at the same rate as it Cools. If the COE of the different colors differs enough. The Glass will crack as it cools or will be very brittle. The Glass need to cool slowly so that the Out Side and the Inside of the Glass Cools Evenly to reduce stress through the glass. Large chunks of glass over and inch thick will need and Annealing Kiln to keep the glass from cracking and 2 releave stres

  • For cleaning the glass I think some sort of acid would be the best thing. Crush it down till its liek gravel, set it in a light acid, wash it, then pound it down some more.

Worth it if your trying to sell it or need high quality stuff.

I really think this technique could be taken to a smaller scale.

Just seems like a lot more heavy lifting than is neccissary to crush glass.

I could be wrong of course.

Once again, another great video dan.

  • nice little chinese coin :) 2:37

  • 5:06 Awesome sound and shake effect! IN REAL LIFE!!! :D

  • Hey: that would be really great for when Halloween comes around, too!! :D

  • Very interesting video!

  • Dan would like to see you melt this stuff (if you haven't done a video of that already?)

Can you use this somehow to make molten glass seals on vacuum tubes?

How about making colored glass filigree. I think this powder and enough heat and some really thin brass or silver shim stock may be how the Russians and Mexicans do that sort of art work.

How much better to be able to do that with a Fresnel lens.

  • You and this show should really be picked up by a DIY Home Network for TV and the web.

  • 1:55 - fart!

  • Nice idea/tutorial as always. Love watching you vids

    Happy Holidays

    LazyMan

  • Great ideal! But, did Denise know that you used the drainer?

  • Gov will ban glass breaking cause its for your safety.

  • @Anothercoilgun omfg its donni james from the acg coil gun thinger ur vids r awsome

  • Cool video, but did you break wind at 1:56 ?

  • @photolabguy no that must have been a brain fart lol

  • @photolabguy hahaha yerh he deffinetly does DX

  • @photolabguy haha yeah =)

  • gant me use a blender?

  • So why do you want bottles of ground glass?

  • Larger pieces of glass can probably be put into some kind of tumbler,or shaken in a container, to remove the sharp edges.

  • How the f long does it take to make a $5 jar of that crap!?

  • as a glassblower i tell you - this stuff is dangerous enough to render it not

worth the effort. you only need one fail in your safety measures

to screw your health for good.

    only once.

if you must create your own frit -

better work wet (plain or filtered water) to minimize dust.

filter everything wet, and dry the end results in boxes covered with cloth or mesh.

get rid of leftovers while wet, better for you and the environment.

also possible to mix with cement as agregate.

  • Good idea. Another reason for me to get a fresnel.

  • My dad just cut it in a diamond saw. No sanding required...........

  • Great Ideal !! Thanks for sharing. Tec

  • 1:56 faaaaaaaaaart xDDD

  • @Alkoholwioslaidziwki xDDD i think too

  • he farted or his wife did lolz

  • Or get a really good blender and ask, "Will it blend"

  • @fasterfind Glass dust! Dont breath this!

  • buy a blendtec total blender and you could ease your life, and never loose precious glass powder to wind

  • You took glass and turned it back into sand :p (almost!)

  • "GREENPOWERSCIENCE" ??? how does this related to this video??

  • @Demoman42 RECYCLING IS GREEN AND IT SAVES POWER

  • 1:44 .... FTW ?

  • Love the low-tech solution

Whack it with a metal bar.

  • You should have made a marble by melting it with the Fresnel lens!

  • Nice one, no doubt fitter for it

  • There few things as worthless for recycling as glass. To recycle glass, it must be transported, in some cases sorted, and then remelted. To not recycle glass, sand is transported, melted and dyed. No-one is hurt by inert glass filling landfills.

  • @timmacky5 Worthless? How about making unique self expressive art out of the neighborhood empties? Is neighborly cooperation worthless too? Seems to me that things like this can help to bring community together just one beer bottle at a time. Or jack daniels which ever the neighbors prefer.

  • @menderfire9

.As a rule of thumb I'd say don't do anything with immediate gratification, and don't change the world by changing yourself. Change other people: there's much more of them.

  • Could you use a fresnel lens to melt the glass into an art piece when you get it this small, Dan?

  • haha nice vid! i rly love this project

  • I'm glad to see you cleaning up the foam bottle stuff Dan

  • haha wow too much labor for real for fifty cents! haha i agree a blender or machine of some kind would be best for sure! but good idea i suppose.

  • u sould just use a blendtech blender

  • @coilsinamotor IT BLENDS!

  • @astrialkil yuppers :)

  • Dan I thought you were going to use a fresnell lenz to reshape it to a form perhaps you could do one out of blue glass that would be beautiful to run your solar powered lignts under? I got a set of those solar panels from HF they are neat we have some back up power in the event we have prolonged outage.

  • lolol

    fast motion ftw

We'd like to see the planter and cement project :)

  • Thumbs up :)

  • 2:49 -2:54 Uhh, how much coffee did you have this morning?

  • One of the best YouTube Channels out here in YouTube land! Thanks Guys for all the Great Work! :o)

  • i love your vid, but i work with some dangerous chemicals, and i be more careful with the powdered glass, when its that fine it can get into your pores and irritate the heck out of ya, just like fiber glass, and could even cause allergic reactions.

  • sounded like buddy rich for a moment there at 2.49 : )

  • im glad you mentioned that about using it with concrete, ive done that before, glass mosaic pads and steps. great use for glass. i wonder if it would work in a fish tank.....i might have to try it. great vid.

  • Ur adds are nothing against my F5

  • @Lopee08 his adds are nothing against my adblock and noscript.

  • You are a super cool guy

  • excellent

  • couldnt you just put it into a homemade barrel tumbler with some stones?

or pulverise it with a tamper in a metal box.

  • couldnt you just put it into a homemade barrel tumbler with some stones?

  • wow dan, you are a human drill hammer!

  • How would you put it in a filter?

  • NICE WORK SON

  • @jessedean87 Expensive bottled water, google search "saratoga water" A local bar that gives us glass sells it.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE Okay, this is strange because this is the 2nd or third time I was doing something similar only to see you demonstrate something similar a few days/moments later. I just did a search for 'blue bottles spring water' and found the same thing. I'm in the midst of doing another bottle wall on my property. Also, I crushed a bunch of glass like you just did (albeit much cruder) to make bottle mosaics. Once again, nice job on the vid.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE i had a look, whats that water like? are you near the lake in that state?

  • where do u find blue glass??

  • dan's the man ... keep posting videos... i enjoy them all :)

  • was tat a fart? 1:53

  • @rodriguezadam11 he did pause for a min.

  • trying to help, fishtank rocks, you should have turned the light on under the glass to shine at night
