  • her eyes are very wide

  • She'll be 64 soon - born in 47. I was a great fan in the 60s and still am. She no longer has the wonderful, soaring voice, but still one of the great legends that folk singers aspire to be.

  • Ahh, nostalgia. . . I, too, had the opportunity to hear Maddy and the lads of Steeleye Span in a great double bill in Oaklnad with Jethro Tull. Inspired ever after, we played "One Misty Moisty Morning" at our wedding. We also had the good fortune to hear her in Boulder in the mid-nineties at the Upstart Crow. Glad to hear she's still out and about and performing. Gaudete!

  • i live near maddy prior , so tempted to try one of her singing classes

  • I'm always jealous of those of you in the USA who got to see Steeleye Span and Jethro Tull on the same bill. Span were already headliners in the UK by then, so I never got to see what must have been a perfect evening of music.

  • Absolute fave female vocalist anywhere, anytime....she's still the goddess!

  • Just my luck, I suppose. I live on the north side of Dallas, but when she was in Dallas in '74 I lived in Peru.

We call that "zigging when you ought to be zagging" in South Texas, where I was born.

  • It was around 1974. A large rock arena in the American Midwest. Thousands of Jethro Tull fans were prepared to sit through the obligatory opening act. As the lights came up she stood in the shadow/light and began to sing the haunting ballad Cam Ye Oer Frae France. For many a profound change in the ear would occur. The wonderful world of English, Irish, and Scottish folk music had been introduced. Our thanks to Ms. Prior and to Mr. Anderson. We were enriched.

  • In 1974, I was a huge Jethro Tull fan and a huge Steeleye Span fan. I drove from Little Rock, Arkansas to Dallas, Texas with 3 equally demented friends to hear Maddy and Ian. Couldn't say who we were most excited about.

  • EnglishBayley - you Tayxanians have no fight with the Brits, neither have we Germans....but confess: "Cam Ye O´er" had you stand straighter and look for redcoats to have a word with. ;)

  • @EnglishBayley It's a beautiful thing when you go to see the opening act and they make converts, eh? Nothing against Jethro Tull, of course.

  • hey, that was great. i love to sing also and i know good singing and your it. your really good.

  • She is surrounded with magic

  • Maybe her voice is not as powerful as it was in her prime, but it's still good enough to show the most of the young pop-ladies what singing is.

Ich liebe ihre Stimme seit 37 Jahren.

  • Nice! I looked up gigs of the various Steeleye Span members; there's a chance I can see Maddy live this fall when I'm in London!

  • I think Maddie Prior is ABSOLUTELY LOVELY! She is a clever, talented example of British womanhood. Cant get enough!!

  • loved her since the 70's and she's still magic! todays singers should listen AND learn

  • thank you for posting this fantastic song!

    greetings from bavaria.

  • Great to see real live musicians.Hyped"celebrities"can't compare, even if Maddy does defend Maddona.

  • What a lovely voice and persona...love her since the 70's and she's still magic! Thanks for posting!

  • I'm a big fan of this band, LOVE YA !!!!

    Thank's for posting.

    Caroline

  • At her age she still sings good!

  • NotordGames, Maybe but not as good as she sang in her prime, still theres lots of old fogeys who will still listen to her now and think she is better than they can recall. I wonder if she will still be singing when is is 90

  • Its an old traditional Irish tune..

  • MADDY PRIOR can sing t ohell and cut in pieces all dirty stinking cops!

  • Its based on an old Irish tune..

  • why is everythin based on an old irish tune..would u ever go on and get urselves a life...the whole world doesnt revolve about the irish..or the bold feinan men

  • @HotSummerof1976, Scottish actually.

  • Rotten is not a fan, he was misquoted, get ur facts right, your wrong again..

  • More lies ? You people are so arrogant, your famous for it..

  • I'll ask you again. What people?

That quote is from Mojo magazine. Look it up.

  • It was a misquote ,your wrong again, silly ,stupid woman...You people!!

  • Has anyone got a video or anything,

of "Deep in the Darkest Night" ?

I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE.

Absolutely everywhere, and I can't find it.

I may have to resort to buying it off the internet... tragic. (:

  • Great, my father has old LPs from Steeleye Span. I love the voice from Maddy Prior.

  • usual excelence

  • A truly gracious lady, saw her in concert a few years ago and going to see her next month.

  • Maddy still rocks....i wish she was my mum!

  • woooow - she's STILL got kick-ass pipes

  • Only one question - would you? Oh yes.

  • It would be rude not to.

  • God has blessed her with a wonderful voice.

  • Maddy Prior, voice immortal! Just beautiful!

  • Maddy Prior continues to inspire and entertain - I saw Steeleye Span in the 70s as a young student in Cardiff and again in Aylesbury a few years back. Her cd of Christmas carols is a staple in our household each year. Thanks for putting this video up.
