She'll be 64 soon - born in 47. I was a great fan in the 60s and still am. She no longer has the wonderful, soaring voice, but still one of the great legends that folk singers aspire to be.
Ahh, nostalgia. . . I, too, had the opportunity to hear Maddy and the lads of Steeleye Span in a great double bill in Oaklnad with Jethro Tull. Inspired ever after, we played "One Misty Moisty Morning" at our wedding. We also had the good fortune to hear her in Boulder in the mid-nineties at the Upstart Crow. Glad to hear she's still out and about and performing. Gaudete!
I'm always jealous of those of you in the USA who got to see Steeleye Span and Jethro Tull on the same bill. Span were already headliners in the UK by then, so I never got to see what must have been a perfect evening of music.
EnglishBayley - you Tayxanians have no fight with the Brits, neither have we Germans....but confess: "Cam Ye O´er" had you stand straighter and look for redcoats to have a word with. ;)
In 1974, I was a huge Jethro Tull fan and a huge Steeleye Span fan. I drove from Little Rock, Arkansas to Dallas, Texas with 3 equally demented friends to hear Maddy and Ian. Couldn't say who we were most excited about.
NotordGames, Maybe but not as good as she sang in her prime, still theres lots of old fogeys who will still listen to her now and think she is better than they can recall. I wonder if she will still be singing when is is 90
why is everythin based on an old irish tune..would u ever go on and get urselves a life...the whole world doesnt revolve about the irish..or the bold feinan men
Maddy Prior continues to inspire and entertain - I saw Steeleye Span in the 70s as a young student in Cardiff and again in Aylesbury a few years back. Her cd of Christmas carols is a staple in our household each year. Thanks for putting this video up.
her eyes are very wide

@EnglishBayley It's a beautiful thing when you go to see the opening act and they make converts, eh? Nothing against Jethro Tull, of course.

Just my luck, I suppose. I live on the north side of Dallas, but when she was in Dallas in '74 I lived in Peru.
We call that "zigging when you ought to be zagging" in South Texas, where I was born.

She is surrounded with magic

Maybe her voice is not as powerful as it was in her prime, but it's still good enough to show the most of the young pop-ladies what singing is.
Ich liebe ihre Stimme seit 37 Jahren.

Nice! I looked up gigs of the various Steeleye Span members; there's a chance I can see Maddy live this fall when I'm in London!

"one of the most wondeful things I have ever done is to meet Maddy Prior." is a misquote?
No, I think your ultra-nationalist agenda helps you ignore the facts.

More lies ? You people are so arrogant, your famous for it..

Has anyone got a video or anything,
of "Deep in the Darkest Night" ?
I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE.
Absolutely everywhere, and I can't find it.
I may have to resort to buying it off the internet... tragic. (:
