  • I want this song played at my funeral.

  • WOW!

  • NOTHING SOUNDS LIKE THE WHISTLEING GUY!!WTF

  • What guitar is he using?

  • @TheDarkSide599 Yamaha AEX 1500 Martin Taylor Model, Also Check out Epiphone Joe Pass Model, similar in a way, hope this help!

  • Simply Great.Good players have one thing in common, and that is wonderful sense of time.

I am not sure if that can be taught. I think one can develop it but it is so individulistic

that you have to get there yourself. It's impossible to fake it, and the jazz world is full of them, right.

It's HOW you tell the story, and here is a muso telling HIS story and what a story he is telling.

What ever style you play the rules are the same.A lesson by a master craftsman.BRILLIANT

  • thumbs up if you would like to think there is a better copy of this masterpiece online!!!!!!

  • Fantastic

  • Well, guys, put aside mocking his name and admit that he's a great player.

  • Martin Taylor is a fantastic "chord-melody" player. I saw him live in Coventry many years ago after listening to him on Radio 3. It is such a pity that it is visually out of sync with the sound. On youtube you can find him giving lessons in chord-melody playing. The way he does the jazz bass and chords at the same time as melody on "I Got Rythm" is incredible!

  • i cried

  • 12 people need to meet georgia.

  • I got to see/hear him at Jazz Alley in Seattle..lucky,lucky me

  • martin yamaha taylor

  • wonderful sound of your guitar!! congratulations! I'm deeply moved by this performance.

  • He looks like the bad guy from Last Action Hero

  • This guy could touch anything and make it good

  • Jakez Francoi's version is better

  • @GoodLify never heard it but I doubt it.

  • What type of Yamaha guitar does Martin have, It' so lush :)

  • @JazzGuitarJuo It is Yamaha AEX 1500 Martin Taylor Model, which has a piezo bridge p.u.

  • Well of COURSE he's brilliant - he's named after 2 of the most famous guitar brands in the world! lol

  • @TheRichardScout You should hear my mate Fender Gibson..

  • joe pass influence to be heard.silky smooth guy

  • @Mobyman690 you think?

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • I like his treatment of the tune very much. He captures the blues in it which is very important for this tune, in my opinion. Best fingerstyle guitarist since good old Joe Pass.

  • Hi Martin !

Splendid, : That's the word 4 the way U caress the guitar !

    Thanx 4 this great performance..

    - Lucius and THE OLYMPIC MUSIC MESSENGERS -

  • Very good. But I like Gibson Fender more.

  • @janklosowski lol

  • And the funniest thing is he usually plays yamaha.

  • Very Joe Pass sounding.

  • I wish my name was Martin Stratocaster...

  • Great guitarist

  • Comment removed

i cant seem to find it anywhere and i want to play this in my uni exam! Cheers!

  • @skatefarmerftw Ultimate-guitar(.)com type his name into the search box

  • @skatefarmerftw youll probably have to transcribe this version yourself but theres sheet music to this song all over the internet

  • Very Nice playing indeed! This Guy sure is very talented indeed.

  • so thats what a guitar sounds like when it has an orgasm...

  • my head just exploded.

  • perfectly wonderful!!!!

  • give me ten bulits for the pepole who prest the dislike bottom

  • @mrpoere I guess ten country-guitarists...;-)...!

  • When are you going to start up "guitar festival" again ? It was the highlight of my year.

  • Anyone who disliked is just jealous! Very Nice! Remids me of Daytona! Go figure!

  • Nothing compared to Ton Von Bergeyk's 1979 rendition! Misses almost totally the bluesy Ray Charles mood ot the original intent.

  • @ddanze What do you mean with 'original'? This song wasn't written by Ray Charles but by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930.

  • I remember seeing Martin play this song at a trade show in Glagow when I was about 16 or 17...it was just astonishing.

  • Klaarrrsssss!!!!

  • Complete name:

    Martin Gibson Taylor Takamine

  • I was an atheist before I saw this video.

  • YEA I'M A TAYLOR THAT PLAYS A MARTIN. BUT NOT QUITE LIKE THIS WONDERFUL GUITARIST. SO SMOOOOOOTH

  • Great performance! I became your fan, Martin! (from Brazil)

  • amazing

  • sweet jazz

  • Saw him solo in Norwich a few years ago one of the very few guitarists who Ive ever seen prepared to push himself right to his limits . A great show what a player!

  • wow that is way cooler than a polar bear..more like a fox with a foxy lady in its cool foxy den chewing foxes glacier mints with cool cool arctic breezes blowing through its cool musical foxy cool fur..in other words the top for coolness.way to go thanks MR COOL

  • Does anybody know what this beautiful guitar is? Is it the same one from the Martin Taylor In Concert CD? I t sounds like it. It sounds like a flat top with light guage strings. I'm surprised to see it's an archtop. Ahhh. Played so beautifully. Exactly right for that tune!

  • @gjfanatique yamaha martin taylor signature ae1500 i think.

  • great stuff!!!!!!!

  • Too rediculous for words... Not of this earth..

  • Is this video available for purchase on DVD?

  • I frequently play in this style of solo jazz guitar, and I must say--this is quite stunning. Beautifully played, nice nods to blues and country pickin, while still remaining true to jazz tradition. Sweet.

  • Yes! Beatifull arrangeament

  • One of the Best Guitarists around today !! Highly imaginative player - no wonder Grappelli had him in his group for years !! and always featured him in his concerts, which I was privileged to attend on a number occasions ! Has a very individual technique with enormous command of his instrument coupled with a highly musical brain !!

  • does he play on a Martin or on a Taylor?

  • @trisnjok ha i was about to type in those exact words

  • @trisnjok he plays a yamaha

  • @mtb1222 which is his middle name. he's a quarter japanese

  • Super!!!

  • teache me please master...

    beutiful sound and melodic.....

  • WOW thats so amazing!

  • What Type Of Guitar Is It ?

  • Yamaha aex1500 they discontinued it late in 09 but it went for 1400 dollars new until then if you find one used they go for about 800 bucks. absolutely great guitars.

  • I thought it was an Aex 1500 to begin with. There is no knobs for the volume on this one, the headstock is different. Martin Taylors Aex1500 was signed by Chet Atkin also.

  • I am fairly confident this is probably a prototype or a special variant he requested of the aex 1500 After all Martin Taylor was involved in the design process and with the pony tail like that it was roughly the time they were putting this guitar together so yeah good eye noticing the pickup selector and tone controls are gone.

  • Right around 3:00 is... auugh, so good!

  • Simply sensational!

  • There aren't any words fit enough to describe this song and the way Martin Taylor plays it. But just imagine me now, listening to this while staring outside the window and watching autumn trees and the evening dusk..

    Such a wonderful feeling.

  • SNAPZILLA!!!!

  • can anyone reccomend to me a decent affordable model of a jumbo archtop hollowbody. I'm playing with a singer in resturaunts next year and need something warmer than my 335 copy.

  • samick and epiphone make some great models just make sure to get it "set-up by a quality luther (about$70 extra)

  • I think ibanez make one in their artcore range

  • Roba da paura... Assolutamente unico!

    Absolutely wonderful...! *_*

    THIS is music...

  • I could listen to this in my sleep. It's so beautiful.

  • Incredible lord MrTaylor fingerstyle!!:) I'll keep on trying to reach his sound...if that's possible!

  • bravo !!!very beautiful guitar playing !!!love it !!*****

  • Increíble!!!! Qué gozada...

  • martin taylor...wut a name for a guitarist lol

  • LOL @ austinlee168. So right!

  • lol yeah

    Fender Gibson !! ^^

  • haha! Word!

  • @austinlee168 I know just what you mean. It was almost like his parents had second sight.

  • @austinlee168 two different kinds of guitars and he's fantastic making it even btr haha

  • @austinlee168 YEA, best acoustics ever!

excluding all of the custom made ones such as Henderson.

  • @austinlee168 would hv been better if it was gibson fender....lol

  • @austinlee168 am i the only one who doesn't get this?

  • @dayyyyum both Martin and Taylor are famous guitar brands

  • Great guitarist and outside guitar circles he is a relative unknown. What a shame

  • Ray played plenty of "cover tunes."

  • See the song history below. Ray Charles, like Willie Nelson, both covered this tune, which was written before they were born.

  • yea you are absolutely right,,, my mistake

  • @Alan62651

Also, I believe, 'Georgia', is the unofficially adopted Anthem of the US State of Georgia. First 'standard' I ever learned on guitar, but I can't play it like this! No way not never in a zillion years. :) Dreams are made of this... Yeah!

  • who did the original?

  • Hoagy Carmichael wrote this in 1930, and played it with his orchestra. The original was one of Bix Beiderbecke's last sessions. The first actual "hit" was by band leader, Frankie Trumbauer, who suggested that Carmichael write the tune in the first place.

  • isnt this a ray charles tune

  • This is so nice...

  • magnifico

  • No wonder Jeff Beck is such a fan of this guy

  • with his name made of two of the biggest guitar companies in the world of course he has to be amazingly good.

  • Ah, he is really a great musician and at least a great guitarist. Such a pleasure to listen to him.

  • He's playing a yamaha Archtop Hm.

  • 5 *****.....

  • sry for the thumb down, i pressed wrong¨

  • he's wonderful 5/5

  • THIS IS COOOL!!! Cooler than a polar bear smokin a joint and drinkin' a pina colada watching the northern lights whilst getting stroked by a beautifull female polar bear mmmmmm

  • @dougienancy

    true

but would it be as cool as a polar bear rolling a joint full of purple haze

whilst playing the piano with his back paws?

mean wile a female polar bear serves him ice cold guiness

  • @dougienancy and @austinlee 168

Two of the best comments I've read about guitar on YouTube in ages - and right next to one another - Keep it up people :-)

  • @twangbarfly YES!!!

  • @dougienancy LOL wow...that comment was just wow. LOL

  • @dougienancy one of the most hilariously absurd analogies i've heard hahaha.thumbs up.

  • @dougienancy LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

  • @dougienancy Gostaria de ser este urso polar tomando uma pina colada. Quanto o felling de Martin Taylor, sem cometários. OTIMO!!!!!

    OSERODRIX.

  • WOW! What an outstanding artist! Such a great feel! Brilliant playing! Discovered this guy just this morning, but not many players have had such a great first impression on me

  • what guitar do you to play that awesome?!

  • what guitar do you HAVE to play that awesome?!*

  • it's all in the fingers in this case, brah

  • cool mann !!

  • It's good. I saw Martin Taylor with Stephane Grappelli back around 1981, and it was obvious then that this was a guitarist to watch. He has a lovely lyrical feel for his instrument. Nice post -- thanks.

Georgia isn't a complicated song from the point of chord structure, but songs like that make can the best jazz.

  • Incredibile!!!! Troppo bello questo arrangiamento.Martin ti adoro !!!

  • I have the tabs and music to this arrangement. I think I mastered (Just about) the first four bars!

After that I gave up and returned to my pick. The one I use to beak rocks with!

  • bound to be good when you have two guitar brands in your name

  • this guy makes something so hard looks so easy, brilliant! he looks a bit like what's face, black books, never mind the buzzcocks

  • Bill Bailey???

  • im tryna learn it, it takes a huge amount of energy, skill, and memory to play it, i cant even get more than half way through it, and i dont even play with the same speed and rhythm as him. :( ill get it one day :)

  • What source are you using to learn this song?

  • i used guitar pro, and downloaded the file, the songs in 12/8 but on guitar its very precise to the bpm, where as martin taylor seems to speed up and slow down, also the guitar pro version doesnt seem to have the same rhythms as martin taylor has, so its probably good to learn it off guitar pro, then watch this vid over and over to get the feel :)

  • download guitar pro and theres a great version of it on there. apparently martin taylor wrote it out himself for guitar pro but dont quote me on it =) anyway it doesnt matter because its completely right in terms of notes and rhythm. enjoy

  • fuck! hes ridiculously good on so many levels

  • This is pure class from the arrangement to the execution

  • I believe Martin is playing on a Yamaha AEX 1500 type without the piezio , About the comments , there is someone always comparing musicians to others ...when are you going to get it man... stop comparing and enjoy his talent and accent the positive.

    Calgary Dave

  • He's great, but the hype is annoying. It's no better than Joe Pass, Lenny Breau, Birelli Lagrene, or probably 50 other guys on earth. Get Real!

  • Martin Taylor is perhaps the greatest jazz solo guitarist alive. Brilliant musician and teacher. I hope to hear him live before my time is up...

  • If you want to hear two very rare recordings, go to my Youtube. I agree, he is one of the very best of all time. His technical ability is unsurpassed. It is a great pity that his Sarabanda album is no longer available. I have met Martin and he does not have a copy of this!!

  • hi is the world best

  • Wonderful.

  • fantastic playing

    So natural and beautiful

  • PS, - it doesn't matter what he's using, - Martin could get a better sound out of a fence post with bits of nailed on wire, than most of you could get with a custom job, - It's all about who's playing, not WHAT they're playing, the instrument is only a means to an end, and, what you're reacting to is Martin's talent, no more no less.

    (punctuation revised for audiio preview)

  • You are right in all respects. This is the ideal towards which any guitarist should strive. Perfect!

  • Too true. Sooo many of my students are always looking for the magic gear that will make them sound like a pro. No amount of money makes up for hard work. People need to realize that if your time is poor and you have weak musical ideas then that is what needs to be fixed. It's not the amps fault when you are out of tune and out of time.

  • my fave band XTC's bass player intentionally used very cheap old bass guitars to achieve signature puffy sounds... his bandmates thought he was nuts at the time... with hindsight they can hear the brilliance.... anyway i digress SIDETRACKED... this guy Marty Taylor is cooler'n the other side o yer pillow...

  • True to a certain extent, but I doubt players of his ability use cheap guitars. I wonder why...

  • cause players of his ability get payed more than those of mediocrate, indagdnm is 100% right, you think skip james, robert johnson, elmore james gave a crap what strings they used or if they were using brand name equipment? I think not, true tone comes from the fingers and the soul, Larry Carlton would same the sound on a 300 dollar squire as he does on his 335. great performance, hope so see more of his clips on here, cheers

  • That's simply not the case. Of course a player with exceptional talent would produce high quality music with cheaper guitars, but you cannot produce the same tone with an inexpensive guitar as you would with a high end guitar. I am certain that the majority of professional players are concerned with what strings and equipment they are using.

  • Absolutely Beautiful...first guess when I heard this was Joe Pass (a friend played it to me blind) - you want to know how to play this? - practice, practice, and then when you have some spare time practice some more...there's no magic trick, just dedication.

Martin, you're an inspiration to young players, a wonderful example of what can be achieved if you care enough about your playing.

As I said to start with, Absolutely Beautiful.

  • where can i get a tab for this?

  • what kind of guitar is this? How much does it cost?

  • Looks like his signature 'Artistry' guitar made by Vanden. Costs around 6950 GB Pounds, not sure about the xchange rate if you're from the US, as it's a UK manufacture.
