  • I went to a production of Hamlet where the leading man missed some crucial lines out of the 'To be or not to be...' speech!

  • @MsBkirk If that was the leading man, gawd 'elp the rest of them.

  • Four pounds, twelve shillings and sixpence - that's disgusting!

  • yes, you're never alone with a pilchard

  • The wonderful Peter Glaze as the dog!

  • The death-bed scene gradually deteriorates into a sordid free-for-all worthy of any Saturday night brawl at the Turk's Head. Dang, this is so funny.

  • I've changed my mind about buying Joshua's farm, the kale has all gone to seed and the mangel wurzels are too hard to dig up. Sorry, lozzer, I hope you soon find another buyer.

  • Seeing that poor old Joshua's farm is up for sale, I would like to place a bid here.

  • I've had a look on Ebay, can't see it yet.

  • Goodbye, Dan, goodbye, Gladys.... Poor Julian Court, he has no idea what he's in for.

  • I think the actors who play the Bowmans are half in love with each other, you can see a little undercurrent of familiarity there. Dan puts his arm round his wife's shoulders to console her when Joshua dies, even though it is a radio programme and nobody can see!

  • There's nothing more we can do here with old Joshua - DEAD!

  • The best friend a man ever had?? He was a conniving old gossipmonger, LOL

  • Lozzer - am I too late?

  • Yes, he's gone...no he hasn't....yes he has

  • He wouldn't want us to stand here crying.... Not much!

  • "When you get your beetroots in will you think of me?"

  • if someone like Patrick Cargill was bossing me around like that I would bite his finger, too!

  • Over 50 yrs on & still very very funny!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • I have always considered pilchards to be very romantic.

  • I love the way he bites the man's finger, ha ha ha!

  • There are so many comments that one could make about this brilliant comedy and Tony Hancock in general. "The Bowmans" - an everyday story of SIMPLE folk" LOL

  • oh dear. 09:41. rather sad now.

"Shall I just do away with meself?"

  • I agree. And in this episode, the irony of the early and middle parts of the script is a reflection of his career insofar as he pulled away from Galton and Simpson in search of "serious" comedy; something which eluded him for the rest of his life

  • Lots of laughs.

Nice to see Peter "Dohhhh!" Glazier.

    Great posts.

    Thanks.

  • Wonderful

  • Pure genius. Tony's last great performance before the car crash that caused him to be unable to remember his lines and subsequently rely on idiot boards.

  • I always thought he Used Idiot boards for the blood doner and realised he didnt need to learn his lines anymore so didnt bother. He recovered from his accident but got a bit lazy

  • Great stuff - please add more Hancock!

  • Best death scene ever! And those ads had me in stitches. Gotta love him.

  • Pilchards are a very serious matter, I'll have you know :-)
