I've changed my mind about buying Joshua's farm, the kale has all gone to seed and the mangel wurzels are too hard to dig up. Sorry, lozzer, I hope you soon find another buyer.
I think the actors who play the Bowmans are half in love with each other, you can see a little undercurrent of familiarity there. Dan puts his arm round his wife's shoulders to console her when Joshua dies, even though it is a radio programme and nobody can see!
There are so many comments that one could make about this brilliant comedy and Tony Hancock in general. "The Bowmans" - an everyday story of SIMPLE folk" LOL
I agree. And in this episode, the irony of the early and middle parts of the script is a reflection of his career insofar as he pulled away from Galton and Simpson in search of "serious" comedy; something which eluded him for the rest of his life
Pure genius. Tony's last great performance before the car crash that caused him to be unable to remember his lines and subsequently rely on idiot boards.
I always thought he Used Idiot boards for the blood doner and realised he didnt need to learn his lines anymore so didnt bother. He recovered from his accident but got a bit lazy
I went to a production of Hamlet where the leading man missed some crucial lines out of the 'To be or not to be...' speech!

The death-bed scene gradually deteriorates into a sordid free-for-all worthy of any Saturday night brawl at the Turk's Head. Dang, this is so funny.

Seeing that poor old Joshua's farm is up for sale, I would like to place a bid here.
