My favorite scene(s) regarding Margaret involve Bruno Gianelli... he kept forgetting her name repeatedly, but after the election was won gave her a nice necklace(?) "Margaret". Just great writing. And the look between the two at that time, priceless
I kind of always thought she should've gotten more attention when Leo died, she got a little bit when the president said Leo loved her and they told the trash can story, but they should've done more I think. Having worked so closely together for so long, I think she should've been invited back to the residence when they were all telling stories about Leo and reminiscing.
Ok. Leo bangs on the door at the beginning of the job interview with Ainsley Hayes. They should have finished that bit with Margaret forging the President's signature. LEO: "We've got checks and balances, separation of powers and Margaret vetoing legislation and sending it back to the hill."
It is common for senior government and corporate figures to move to another post and take along their secretaries (the senior-secretaries/secretarial assistants and PAs, not the mere clerks).
Recall who Bartlet had as secretary when he was Governor.
They missed one of the best Margaret scenes. In "The Portland Trip" (season 2) when Leo's divorce was made final and Margaret was worried that Leo would take to drinking....
...Leo told Margaret that he was going home for the day and Margaret said "Okay" in a very resigned and worrisome manner (thinking that Leo was going home to drink away his sorrows) and Leo, understanding this, just said to her "You're a good girl".
Nice video. But you missed the scene where Margaret was typing with two fingers because of the WH being exempt from ergonomic standards and Leo's reaction. It was priceless.
haha i don't know if anyone agrees, but margaret just seems to be leo's replacement for his wife when he's in the office. their relationship is such a typical married couple one.
West wing showed many times that the relationships between them and their secretaries/assistants developed into something more. Most acted as if they were married, some developed crushes/things beyond the simple married level while many others developed a brother/sister or similar relationship.
My favorite Leo-Margaret moment is when she tells him she can copy the President's signature...the line that got left out of the clip in this montage was from Leo: "We've got separation of powers, checks and balances, and Margaret vetoing things and sending them back to the Hill"...my favorite line!
One scene from "Swiss Diplomacy" I love is when the President and Leo are in the Oval and Leo reads Margaret note: "The Iranians have taken to the streets." The President then says: "that belongs in the Margaret Museum."
my fave bit is on one of the cheese days when leo's saying that margarets put a lot of time and thought into who's doing what and she's shaking her head in the the background!
I love after that last clip, when Charlie says he won't sleep either, Leo responds, "Great, well, we'll have a group of very dedicated people who can't lift their arms."
Leo - "No, cause after the initial thing wears off, there's a guy with a violin sitting in my house." one of those understated lines that I used to look forward to every week. sigh...
Yeah, it's a shame, there was the funnier part: "We have separation of powers, check and balance...and we have Margaret, vetoing things and sending them back to the Hill!"
Leo was supposed to be the least funny -or the least eccentric- character, which actually gave him the best one liners reacting to the lunacy of the rest of the staff.
thank you very much, scenes like these contribute to the greatness of the series/
There is another favorite scene of these two I love is when the first time Bruno came to see Leo for helping out the campaign without Margaret's arrangement and the way Margaret kept talking to him about this matter is memorable.
Oh gosh- this show was SO GREAT before it started taking itself too seriously! 1999-2000 was the high point! good times. I still miss Mrs. Landingham!!
The clip where Margaret reveals she can forge the president's signature is pure beauty... but I wish the next line had been kept in! "We've got separation of powers, checks and balances, and Margaret vetoing things and sending them back to the Hill!"
Will, Margaret and the other secretaries were allocating places in the bunker to 'hot' men. They missed the VP off the list. Great Clips. Thanks Dilloee!
I love those two! I missed the scene (not sure which Season, probably 1 or 2) when Margaret reminds Leo that only she can handle his schedule. But the last one is very touching.

Another great Margaret moment was in the episode "In this White House" when Ainsley Hayes first met Leo in a scene in Leo's office.
Ainsley told Leo that his secretary (Margaret) was very nice to her and was doing a good job. Leo (standing by his door) said
"She'll be happy to hear that. She's standing right outside this door"
at which time he smacked the door with his hand, then you could hear Margaret behind the door say "ow!"
