  • Ive got a mr2 6 speed 16 v 86 mr2 and its fast for 115 hp :D Who knows i might make a video.

  • @theprgamer Yep, mine was certainly no slouch after the 6-speed swap when you consider the power output of the 4AGE.

  • if im seeing this correctly you shifted up to 5th? got any videos to up to 6?

  • @bishounenpooru Sorry, no other videos than what I have posted here. I sold the car a year ago.

  • @mcm95403 ahh did you start the run at 3rd gear moving to 6 or was it 1-4?

  • @bishounenpooru that is 1st through 4th

  • I'm thinking of picking up an earlier MR2 due to their small size and light weight oh and RWD. My Contour SVT was hit and written off a little while back :( I will totally miss that car but time to get something else to play with. I'm not sure if I should be buying the supercharged version or pick up the NA version and just do a little work to it. I assume the NA version has less things to go wrong...

  • @svtcontour The NA has less to go wrong and parts are more available. The SC give a good kick at lower speeds but I feel like it peters out too early because it's undersized. There are fixes for that, but once you down down that path........

  • @mcm95403 Thank you for the quick response. I think I will do more research but I have a feeling I'd like to stay naturally aspirated. Less potential power I guess but for me its just about having an easy car to maintain thats fun to drive and toss around :) I used to have an '86 Mercury Capri RS 5.0L long ago with some work done including suspension and brakes but I think this time around I think I will go for light and nimble.

  • wow man thats showing them kids how to shift!

  • @654321yhtaeD Yep, that's my short shifter in action. Info is on my website.

  • Thanks for some great info :) Considering this upgrade for my 20v blacktop engine!

  • Nice. Your web site is very useful. I'm about to do a much needed engine swap. Stock 16v NA to a 20v blacktop with the c160 tran like you used.

  • nice shifts...sounds good...

  • hah what a pro speed

  • how hard of a swap is it?

  • did you get just the transmission or did you get the entire black top?

  • That was just a transmission change, I still had the stock 16V engine at the time.

  • I'm still in search for just the transmission, however, I don't think Ill be finding it seperate from a blacktop. The only blacktops I know of are on ebay and they do have the 6 speed but are almost 2000 dollars. Id still rather just find the transmission or a silvertop with the 6 speed(even though I think they are all 5 speeds).

  • i post a video response, i got up to the equivalent of 110mph in that run.

  • Yeah, I ran out of room where I was.

  • Marc Medina, has proven that car at 1/4 mille?

    What was his best time?

  • No, sorry I havne't been able to get it to the track yet. I'm building a new engine for it right now, so I'll take it after the new engine is in.

  • ive looked at your website and all but I can't find a c160. any suggestions?

  • Just have to keep looking. I bought mine after the auction for the engine and trans together didn't end with a sale. I looked for about a month till I got that one.

  • dumb question but ill ask. because i haven't seen a 6 speed transmission before i must ask. how much bigger is it than the 5 speed you had on it? did you have enough room. my car is a 91 corolla with the same 4age engine and im pretty sure your car is smaller so i know if it had room to fit on yours is should on mine.

  • The end cover is where the 6th gear is. It sticks out about an inch more than the 5 speed cover. If you find one, it should fit fine in a Corolla.

  • So most of what you did in your website would apply to other 4age's or is the aw11 that much different do you think?

  • Yep, most all of it should apply.

  • you are my hero. i still got the 5 spd and i dont have the supercharger, but i know how to shift better than anyone in this area so its fun to mess around with the teens with civics that think a civic is fast.

  • haha, u cockey motherfucker. civics are fast too man. they have better high end than 16v 4ages. but i prefer toyota. mainly cos i drive one haha

  • 85-89 none turbo mr2 are faster then any stock d16, not b16 tho, i could keep with them but i can't beat them. i owned a 1986 mr2 with 349,000 miles and i've beaten 06 regular civic, 95 ex coupe and a 1990 with d16 swap. i got raped by b16 hatch by 2.5 cars. still for engine with 300,000 miles and only 105 hp it's not bad. long live the twin cam :)

  • Genius Car

  • u looked like teen-ager driving this car. beautiful car by the way.

  • Great swap, after my brother invested over 8k into his AW11 he is still in need of a transmission and your writeup on it in the link found in the description of this video is everything needed to get it all put together and operational. There just may be hope for the AW11 to be revived as an updated sports runabout. Though the body is less than elegant compared to todays supercars it is a timeless design that needs to be recognised for the ultimate machine it is.

  • This is truly the best thing I have done with the car, although the upgraded suspension would be the second best. I'ts getting difficult to find a 6 speed separate from a Blacktop, but it's well worth it. Have your brother e-mail me if he has any questions.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  • Upgraded suspension is the reason for owning an AW11 chassis in my book. I have seen what you mean with the blacktop not being seperate from the trans that much anymore. I find a few here and there but nothing that sparks interest. The 8k invested is in slight driveline mods and very heavy suspension mods. K-Sport race spec coilovers (fully adjustable), sway bars, tie rods, lateral links, poly bushings, and the list can just keep going. MR2's, when not original, are the best platform for mods.

  • you mean you have found the transmission sepereate from the engine? where? all i ever see is the entire blacktop engine.

  • ebay motors part section years ago, I havn't seen any for about 8 months now.

  • not neccessary to rev it out. just wanted to hear the 5th and 6th gear actuation. :)

  • Whats the 0-60?

  • I haven't checked it carefully yet, but it seems to be right about 7 seconds. Pretty good I think for a 20 year old car with 196K on it.

  • SWEEET!

  • Yep, I really like it - did you check out my website?

  • no 5th and 6th upshifts?

  • Sorry, not in a 35 zone. No place around here to go fast enough for a redline shift into 6th.
