As Lazuotut wondered over a year ago, I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what (def not FotC) song 3:38 to 3:50 (and probably to 4:00 ). I've listened 50 times and can't figure it out
They played this song in their concert in Bergen, Norway on the 20th of May 2010, so at least they've built it into their repertoire.. Or maby they just played it in Norway because they mention the country at 2:06 ....
I heard this song for the first time at the Hammersmith Apollo last night, and it instantly became my favourite FOTC song. It's not very funny, but it is a really lovely song.
This is one of my favorite songs they do. It mixes their lyrics and banter into and awesome song. I was a little sad that they didn't use the whole thing in season 2.
Now, every time I watch the episode NewZealandTown, I have to get on here and listen to this song. It makes that show a little more complete.
it was one of the songs the prime minister of new zeland was ment to sing on episode called new zealand town but they didnt put it in but they put i small tune of it at end of that episode
Anyone know where the melody from 3:38 to 3:50 is from? It's been killing me for ages, I know I've heard it somewhere else but can't put my finger on it!
I will reward anyone who can remember with three internets and/or cookies!
@Lazuotut if its a "not a flight of the conchords" song i don't know, but if it is i think is part of leggy blond. sounds pretty close. the lyrics in leggy blond at that part are
"(Murray)
I'll never get,
I'll never get to be with you
I'll never get to share another cup of tea with you
I'll never get to let you know how much I think of you
I'll never get to tear your clothes off on the photo copy"
I have been on countless bus rides through small new zealand towns and i must say this is exactly what its like. This town could be kaikoura, dunedan or hamilton. it takes me back.
Agreed! It has that kind of nostalgic european quality as penny lane. Kind of trying to construct a homey utopian image. I think this is one of Flight of the Conchord's best despite its deviation from their normal style
omgf i been to that new world its just down the road from me where did u get that photo form? them corn chips o the left bttom are the best corn chips ever l0l
I really think the Paula verses are very musically beautiful and contrast very nicely with the casual, lighthearted music in the rest of it. I didn't think that much of this when I first heard it, but I'm really coming to think of it as one of their very best songs now.
they were driving a bus in 'new zealand town' a district of ny so it wouldn't have been as ridiculous as it seems at first. And besides they could have changed the words
this song briefly appears at the end of "new zealand town" just the instrumental... also "paula" is in the episode... the prime minister is in love with her and grew up next to her and he also drove the tour bus...

Just out of interest those of you non-Kiwis what do you find funny about this song? It's mostly parody of New Zealandisms and unless I were a New Zealander I wouldn't get!
i just like the way that this bus driver is talking about his tragic love story to random people, and you could actually put all of the things he's talking about into every other country.
It might be a cultural thing, but what surpasses that is the fact the guy can't get over an old love and is retelling it to tourists. Like, along with his job of giving a running commentary, he's letting his personal issues spill into it. I don't think it's the funniest thing ever, but it's certainly entertaining.
In my opinion - their best piece of music, awesome in it's subtlety and deapan. Plus there's that particular guy in the audience serving as a one man laugh track - he is ON it. hahaha
To be honest with you I dont find this song hugely funny (esapecially not compared to there other songs) but I do think its a great song & I love it to pieces!
It has a great peek to it, man the conchords kick ass!
I'm really disappointed that this wasn't used to end their series. Perhaps they felt us die hard fans abused the song (maybe my youtubing it contributed). Then again, maybe they just couldn't fit it no matter how badly they wanted to.
Still, <3 to FOTC for at least hinting of it to acknowledge us in a sick joke sort of way :P
newzealandtown only had 1 song and it was like 4 mins shpprter than the others in the second season....i think they tried to fit it into that episode but it didnt work out
I thought it was going to be in the first series when Murray says something like "Sometimes i like to pretend im driving a bus". I love this song so much
I don't know, you guys. I liked how they set up the whole episode to play this song, and even began playing it, and then just left it open. it was like they're saving it. or it didn't really end.
So The final episode, They didn't end up using the song, yet they used Petrov yelyena and me. They didn't even use the full version, it didn't sound as good as the live version. And bus drivers song is better then it regardless. So they thought it was safe to remove 5 miniutes of an episode and not use bus drivers, but it was a good idea using petrov yelyena and me as their final song in their final episode ever.
I was Highly disapointed =/. this song is so good............................ =/

This is their best song ever made, it is so great. I listen to it cause its just fucking great, its not really a funny song, its just a fucking amazing song. No doubt their best song, perhaps not their funniest, but definately their best. I could listen to this song every day it would never get old.
Just a great song, i really hope this sunday they will have a funny ass song then end the episode with this song as a music video. If they did that, then man i would die happily.
I was so excited when he said Paula and I made that connection! I also hope the song shows up later on but it worries me that the episode was cut a few minutes shorter than most. I can't imagine they would do up a whole song just to take it out, but that would definitely be unfortunate
Hey, they faked us out pretty good setting up the bus driver song huh? I guess this song has become viral enough that they realized it was an ace in the hole.
I'm betting it'll be a big production on the next episode.
p.s. about the NZ setting of the song issue, I'm thinking of a setting showing his earlier days as a bus driver (with fotc singing chorus), but still later than his opportunity with Paula (essentially a flashback showing even earlier flashbacks).
In the last episode I really thought they were going to ask Bret and Jermaine to be the tour guides and they'd say something like "No, we don't know how to do that" or "We'd never do that" and then Murrary would go "But thats what you two use to do back in NZ before you got this band together" and they would do a cheesy flashback.
Your right though, this cock tease does prove they realize the song is somewhat viral if only amongst their fans.
Can't believe we were so hideously faked out in NewZealandTown. Seriously, I just don't understand it! WHY didn't they include it? The episode was 4 minutes shorter than usual!!!
i'm not ultra t to the o'd about not having the song. but i wonder why they would cut it out???? i think the episode would have been better with bus driver song. yes indeedy
This song is awesome. And yes it would be awesome if they had it on the show, and i'm pretty sure they were planning on having it last episode. But decided not too. It seems like they based that entire episode "Or atleast most of it" around the song and end up not even playing the it! Kinda of a disapointment but its even more of a disapointment that theres probably not going to be a season 3. So lets just be happy with what we got cause 2 seasons is better then 1
i really cant understand how all those complaining thought there was any way the bus driver song could be incorporated into the show. the whole song is very specific to small town New Zealand and it's stereotypical characters. it just wouldn't work in the show.
why are you all saying you're "really pissed off"? there's no promise to deliver x number of songs in an episode. it's not just about the songs, especially in the second season. enjoy each episode on its own merits. and stop whinging.
The show cut off five minutes early. This song? About five minutes. They played the first few chords of the song and used pretty much the whole episode to set up the song. That's why we're upset. And it would work just fine, the songs don't always fit perfectly. It would've been better than one of the parody songs to an obscure old music video that they've been doing lately. I mean, they're good if you're familiar with the video, but if you haven't seen it then it's not that funny.
they had paula, new zealand town, a bus, a driver, and it didn't matter if bryan sang it, as long as we would actually hear it. and at the end they started playing the first three chords, and then the episode just ended, it was so stupid, I waited to whole episode hoping they would have it and they never did
Sorry, Ive only just listened to this song now and dont know what episode or part of episode you guys are talking about. If you could clarify that would be great.
People are talking about the most recent season 2 episode, NewZealandTown. They blatantly set up the song throughout the entire episode, and at the end they faked us out and didn't include it--but they did include the intro as the music over the credits. It was a tremendous fake-out.
I'm wondering if it had to do with how obnoxious fans tend to be in requesting the song at concerts. Maybe they were being too 'cool' for that and fucking with their fans' heads. It was definitely a headfuck to me.
I hate to say it but i liked first season better. They have been cuttin the episodes short lately and a few of them have been lacking. This episode had one song which really pissed me off
Great song! They have so many good ones that never get any recognition because they weren't in the show or they don't have a live video performance available. Anything, this was great. I really don't know where they come up with this stuff.
28 people simply could not handle parody being wonderfully empathetic.

I was so excited when he said Paula and I made that connection! I also hope the song shows up later on but it worries me that the episode was cut a few minutes shorter than most. I can't imagine they would do up a whole song just to take it out, but that would definitely be unfortunate

Is this a Kink's parody?

Ahhh, I was really looking forward to hearing this song on their last episode. Here's hoping it makes it to the show.

i think ther setting us up for later and if ther not thts really douchey still love the show tho

Hey, they faked us out pretty good setting up the bus driver song huh? I guess this song has become viral enough that they realized it was an ace in the hole.
I'm betting it'll be a big production on the next episode.
lakecityransom 2 years ago
p.s. about the NZ setting of the song issue, I'm thinking of a setting showing his earlier days as a bus driver (with fotc singing chorus), but still later than his opportunity with Paula (essentially a flashback showing even earlier flashbacks).
lakecityransom 2 years ago
In the last episode I really thought they were going to ask Bret and Jermaine to be the tour guides and they'd say something like "No, we don't know how to do that" or "We'd never do that" and then Murrary would go "But thats what you two use to do back in NZ before you got this band together" and they would do a cheesy flashback.
Your right though, this cock tease does prove they realize the song is somewhat viral if only amongst their fans.

They better finish this song with the prime minister driving a bus back in the days for the DVD release damn it.

I kind of like the way they had the song in the episode, without having it. Stop whining everybody, and enjoy the episodes.

i flipped out when lucy lawless came on and then when brian introduced her paula i completely sh*t a brick.
i waited very impatiently for this song. it better be in the next episode. or else i'll get angry. and you wouldn't like me when i'm angry...

i really cant understand how all those complaining thought there was any way the bus driver song could be incorporated into the show. the whole song is very specific to small town New Zealand and it's stereotypical characters. it just wouldn't work in the show.
why are you all saying you're "really pissed off"? there's no promise to deliver x number of songs in an episode. it's not just about the songs, especially in the second season. enjoy each episode on its own merits. and stop whinging.

All the episode and at the end when they were whistling it at the end I got so excited.

They set it up perfectly, I was just waiting for it and it never came. The episode was 5 minutes shorter than usually so maybe they cut the song

I hate to say it but i liked first season better. They have been cuttin the episodes short lately and a few of them have been lacking. This episode had one song which really pissed me off

I'm super bummed out that they didn't sing this song in today's epi. I was waiting and waiting for it. It's one of my favorite songs, too.
Darn.

So strange that they worked in the opening of this song (and Paula herself) into the latest episode of FotC, but they didn't sing it...

That really pissed me off bro. I was looking forward to it the whole time. It was like incorporated into the episode and they did not fuckin use it!

Great song! They have so many good ones that never get any recognition because they weren't in the show or they don't have a live video performance available. Anything, this was great. I really don't know where they come up with this stuff.
