  • uhh....QUESTION!

what'll happen to the sound if I don't do the "rowing motion" ??

  • what do you mean by bow change?

  • @robynn21 Bow change means bowing the opposite way that you started bowing. :)

  • All these f-ing experts with their petty criticisms. Its tired. We get it. We get it. YOU'RE the real authority.

  • 1:24 O_o maaan his eyes freaks me out... he could be a hitman

  • @0143007337 READ MY COMMENT. i already said i played for 7 years and still havent mastered it. if you want to hold the bow and bow correctly, relax your right hand and move it smoothly. you have to practise spending the bow from frog to tip for about 5 minutes a day. otherwise theres no use to watch the video. i'm not saying that the video is bad, i just think that the title should be "tips on bowing for the violin/fiddle". if you say "how to play" i expect more than this. happy? thank you.

  • I play the violin and I find that rubbing the rosin up and down the bow for about 5-10 seconds covers it ok. But if it's a new bow I assume you need to do it for longer

  • @SuperKatiebugs if the bow is still a beige colour then you should probably rub rosin more. :)

  • My mom came running to my room..asking...From where did the TRAIN come into the house. Pooo Pooo

  • @mailwriter19 "From where" did your mother learn to speak such formal diction in such informal conversation? :)

  • Very clear and organized presentation and PRACTICAL!

  • HES ROCKING A PONYTAIL!!!!!!!! XD I LOVE IT!!!!!

  • Master!!!

  • wanna learn the violin? ask estan247 :)

  • I've never played the violin but I was curious to know some things about how it's played. I really learned from this video, obviously not much, but a few interesting points that would be useful when I do play the violon.

  • lol what if u only have 3 string :P i lost the D string

  • Can anyone tell me any good videos on youtube to learn from, or any good websites, I just got my friend's violin and want to learn. I'm already good at music, I can already play piano and flute, I just need to know where to start with violin!

  • @iluvKH4eva I just bought one today (an electric violin) I plan on going to a music store to buy a violin dvd. I will also be looking online for dvd

I normaly play the drums - but as far as books + dvd's go Make sure you dont pay more than 24 dollas for it xD

    Hope this helps!

    **Keep searching youtube!**

  • lol at first i thought he only had one arm XD

  • jees, awesome! :)

  • R u serious??u expect people to actually learn this this way?? C'mon! I've been playing 4 seven years and still haven't mastered it. So don't believe u can just learn this right off the bat!!

  • @MUSICfreak97321 I KNO I PLAYED FOR 20 YEARS AND WTF? O_o

  • @kcpalooza ummm..... LRN2READ and comment on my post pls. lxlmCrAzYxi was just responding to my post. i have been playing for 7 years. whats wrong with that?

  • I got my wife a violin but when she brushes the fiddle over the strings there is no sound whatsoever!!

  • @T0mat0S0up I had the same problem. Does she have a bridge on it, otherwise there will be no sounds.

  • @Akirakun829 If you mean a thin wooden wedge that fits underneath the strings but onto of the violin body, then yes.

  • @T0mat0S0up you need to put rosin on the bow if the violin came with it

  • Thanks ! I don't have the money for a teacher, this helps !

  • i will be uploading a how to video this week of how to play the violin.

  • very cool more more more.....good teaching.

  • Great stuff ! Can anyone advise me on buying my first violin ? I HAVE to buy used, and cheap. What should I look for, sizes ? Kinds ?

I don't even know the difference between violin and fiddle !

    Many thanks.

  • @canals22 violin and fiddle are the same thing, but it's called a violin when it's played classically and it's called a fiddle when you're playing Devil Went Down To Georgia country/folky stuff. There's also a difference in how you position it while you're playing. If you're an adult, definitely get a 4/4 (full size). As for used and cheap, check out Amazon.

  • @oxlena There is a difference between a violin and a fiddle on a violin the bridge is more rounded and on a fiddle the bridge is more flat. Amazon really! That's the worst place to get a violin at any place on the internet is a bad place to git a violin. you need to go to a store where they have a big selection so you can find the the violin that fits you best. i bought one off of Amazon along time ago just to see what the quality of it was and it was a piece of crap.

  • @SingingAndComedyOfSC *gasp* I've been duped. I suppose that's what I deserve for listening to people instead of going to Wikipedia? In case you didn't know, Wikipedia is run by androids, not people.

  • @oxlena wow Im sorry i posted a thing thats almost identical to yours. lol. disregard.

  • @canals22 get a 4/4 if your an adult, and if your looking for cheap violins, go to a music store and ask them to introduce you to beginner brands. if you get more advanced, definitely change to better quality ones. I know it's pretty late but hope it helps :)

  • can anyone tell me why after applying the rosin, mine is not powdery form, its a block of brown thing. i applied it to the bow. but when i start to play, no sound comes out of the violin at all. can someone reply? thanks

  • @MrPsgeek Take an object and scratch the surface of the rosin block in different diretions so that it looks scratched. Then if you have a new bow, rosin, rosin, rosin. It's hard to get enough on it the first time.

  • This is fantastic.

  • that was so much better than that guy ehow i actully learned something! :D

  • Appreciate the video lesson!!! Great stuff =)

  • It's good,help me alot

  • thanks for sharing :)

  • Thank you.

  • How do you tune your violin? I mean like my stepdad said that he tuned it but it just doesn't sound like it to me

  • I learned to play violin in 5th and 6th grade. Then I moved to a school that had no orchestra and switched to the baritone horn for 6 years. Now, I'm 28 and picking up the violin again. Keep with it and if you ever quit, you'd be amazed at what you can remember later in life.

  • You need rosin for the bow, you can get it in most music stores. The violin will make almost no sound if you don't have rosin on the bow.

  • thanks for that, I'm a total beginner and I was worried when I couldn't get any sound. :(

  • @GreeceOTOT THANK YOU!!! i added more rosin and i got a sound!!!! :D

  • @GreeceOTOT How do you apply it. I just got mine and there is this thing and it looks like orange marble is this even it?

  • @1c2a3i4t5l6y7n yes. orange, brown, white, theres a lot of different colours. rub it on the bow, and if your bow is new, rub on it a lot. try not to hit your rosin against hard stuff cuz it might break and its really hard to piece it back together.

  • @GreeceOTOT

Well how much rosin is too much? They say you want it to somewhat come off of the bow, but then too much makes a chalky sound

    Thanks!

  • @GreeceOTOT can you please tell me what that is...? actually i have some brown hard fluid in my violin case....is that the rosin..? i'd be really thankfull if you'd tell me :)

  • @GreeceOTOT no duh

  • Hey i just got a violin today and my uncle tried it and it makes a sound but its not very loud, do you know why it might be not makeing as much sound as it should?? because i really need to find out why ..

    thank you

  • did you buy rosin? you need rosin.

  • ummm im not sure.... but u see that wooden block piece on the violin? put ur bow parrallel to it and play. the closer it is, the louder it is. the further away, the softer

  • A lot better than the Expert Village crap.

Very helpful and informative, thanks a lot.

  • @oxlena this is better than expert village if you are a just starting with no idea of how to even hold a bow. for a bit more advanced players the village is quite good.

  • @oxlena

    Haha. Came from ExpertVillage too.

I learned how to knit using "Knitting for Dummies". Embarassing as it might feel to open one of those, it is soooo helpful and teaches you without assuming you know anything beforehand. I considered getting a book of the same for this occasion. Definitely would recommend it to others. Much better than weeding through tutorials youre not sure of. A little of both=self taught!

  • @oxlena

And to add to that...I didnt expect Id ever get a grip on knitting. But I did. Crotcheting too!! :D

Try Amazon...or just google "Violin for dummies"

Good luck no matter how you learn. Its a gorgeous instrument. All strings are! <3

  • he holds the bow weird, i have my little finger on the end and i dont curve my hand like that on the bow cos you just dont

  • this is boring.

  • man, shouldnt you show ppl how to hold the bow properly first, then show them how to play

  • He did in another video

  • Im frustrated =[ i dont know where to put my fingers ;[

  • ... i dont get it :( my violin dosnt even sound the same.

  • Maybe its out of tune...

I'm probably not the best person to be giving you advice...since I just started playing a few days ago.

  • try putting rosin on your bow

  • try to tone it

  • Como se afina un violin? por favor necesito saber!

  • thanks ^^
