You poeple that don't like smarts just because there small are way to ensecure you need a big car to make yourself bigger and better than every one else just shut the f#$% up
Correct, one fill up is not enough to determine the gas mileage. You'll probably average 37 mpg. Not worth it to get this munchkin car. You wasted your money on a Chrysler-sold product & gave up a ton of room. I would've gone for a Corolla or Yaris intead
Umm just for your edification that is a " Daimler AG " product, not a Chrysler. Daimler broke it off with Chrysler a while ago. Judging from the situation that Chrysler is in now, they were wise in doing so.
Funny to see that after parting with Daimler, Chrysler who is now in a real financial hole has aligned with FIAT to market their micro ... the 500 in the USA. I've owned my smart for over 18 month.. I think I can say with confidence what the MPG is in MY car based on MY driving style and no one elses. I get Avg 35 in the city and +40 on the highway running @ 65+(keeping up with traffic) and running the AC, Florida is perpetually hot.
at a steady 55-60mph, you will get over 50mpg, if you can find the open road to do it. my first tank of city driving was 37mpg and it has gone nowhere but up! my last tank was 47mpg.
You'll need to average this over many tanks with something like spritmonitor to get an accurate reading. One fill isn't enough to accurately measure the consumption!

Here in the Uk i find it hard to visualise somebody trying to get 45mpg from a Smart.
I own a new 54Hp ForTwo Cdi diesel and because our gallon here in the Uk is 4.5Litres my car is returning a genuine 90mpg.
It must be annoying for customers in the US whose cars are returning disappointing fuel economy from what afterall is a lite sub 800Kg citycar.

actually people have been getting more than that after the normal break in period of about 2000 miles, 45 and above in many cases, me included.
