  • A little more blur, a shakier camera and a CNN logo in the corner and this scene would be f*cking real. Action doesnt get much better and intense than this.

  • When this film came out, I promised myself that I'd buy two copies: One to watch, and one in case the first one got damaged.

Val Kilmer's 5 second magazine change is a thing of beauty.

  • highly better than the robbery the joker did in dark knight, thumbs up if you agree

  • funny how the LA shoot out was very similar to this only they had the common fucking sense to wear body armor.. unlike the Awesome val kilmer his only flaw was Producing way to much AGRO shooting like a maniac and only reloading i think 2 times? geezuz good movie.

  • A preview of the chinese finally puttin it to LA

  • Damn you got to love the awesome dome piece that al pacino gets Fn Fnc to the face!!!! IN THE FACE!!!!! =P

  • Val kilmer went stupid hard in this shit!!!!!

  • man this and the elvis shootout and some of shootem up is fucking bloodpumping, would love to eat up some bacon like that

  • youd love to shoot cops? Let me guess your on the no fly list. @letsgoforajoyride

  • Hands down, bar none...this has got to be THE best shoot-out piece in all Hollywood history. I am an avid movie buff who has chalked up every action movie in the book, and NOTHING COMPARES with this scene... N O T H I N G!!! Outrageously outstanding work. Love it!

  • anybody know what kind of rifle he is using at 2:28 - 2:31?

  • @devin761

maybe some type of m14 or something, like with tactical gears mods.

  • @CDowdy1337 not even close

  • @devin761

Just found out that it is a FN FNC-80.

  • You see so many movei's where they fire thousands of rounds from the hip and yet still hit everything they aim at . I hate those movei's !

This is by far the best realistic shoot out to ever be put on screen .

  • i know how to do all that stuff and im like so tactical cause i traned with the minutemen

  • Hands down/bar none, this has got to be THE Best shoot-out scene in the entire history of Hollywood movie-making. It's so realistic, the sounds of the assault weapons are nerve-wracking, you could feel the adrenaline pumping - hell, I sure did when I first saw this outstanding Micheal Mann film on the big screen. Best movie ever, especially with two of the best actors in Hollywood film history. Great scene, great picture, the works. Fuckin' A+++++++!!!

  • Hands down best shootout scene ever. What the crew needs is grenades. High explosives, fragmentation and smoke to cover retreat/emergency bailout. Tactics are sound: standard cover-move/surpressive fire routine. Sizemore's character should've never gone the other way and should've waited for an opening to move which brings us to the last flaw: they didn't have communication devices.

  • @RenatovanBloemenhuis wouldn't thermonuclear hand grenades be a better choice? seriously, I'm not an expert but I don't think that comms would do them much good either... their plan was to disappear, not to fight their way to an extraction point

  • I suppose this is why the sf need be smart but not really smart or who'd stop them? the oversized ticket writers on a testosterone pill? :-))))))

  • I'm just quoting imdb here:

In the bank hold-up, De Niro and Kilmer again carry the "Colt Commando", while Sizemore now carries an Israeli "Galil." To answer a very common question, Pacino's rifle in this scene is the less-known "FN FNC", a 5.56mm assault rife that is, in fact, in limited service with some U.S. police agencies. The other police officers aside from Pacino's character carry a mix of M16A2 assault rifles and Mossberg 590 12 gauge shotguns.

So that seems to be it. :)

  • Apparently some army gunnery instructors show Val Kilmer's clip change (at 2:00) as an example of a very fast, almost perfect clip change.

  • first of all army doesnt have gunny "instructors." only marines call them instructors. second of all its not called a "clip." its a magazine. third of all, it was a normal combat reload; the gun went dry, the bolt carrier got locked back (like its supposed to), he released the empty mag, put in a new one and just hit the bolt carrier release button. the real skill with an m4 variant rifle is shot placement, not reloading. sry, but i nitpick about combat tactics and firearm mechanics.

  • Compelling scene. Hell, hand me an AR-15 and a bag with $4 million in it and I'd probably try to shoot my way past the cops in real life.

  • haha Amen to that brother.

  • It'd probably be helpful to know the difference between an M-16 and an AR, first.

  • Yeah, they definitely weren't M-16's. But thx for playing.

  • Like I said, learn the difference first, k? thx.

  • Comment removed

  • black/hispanic detective DID HAVE AN AR variant rifle. val kilmer had an m4 variant rifle. i am not sure if there were any m16's, but i am positive about those 2 aforementioned weapons.

  • If Chris has just got in the car and not started firing, do you think the cops would have returned fire? They probably could have just driven away. Still, my #2 fav movie of all time.

  • what's #1 ?

  • Heat is my second fav, 2001 a space odyssey is my #1 fav.

  • good clip

  • They knew they had to gain fire superiority, and damn did they do a good job of it.

  • i wish this movie would come out on blu-ray

  • brilliant shootout

the sounds of the guns is perfect

  • LOL! those do NOT sound like ARs, they sound like a heavier caliber then the 5.56 for sure. Sorry, I disagree....and where can I buy bottomless mags that appear to be 30 rounders?

  • care?

    sounds good

    end of

  • sexgirlpatrol: Do you know what ARs sound like when fired in the city, surrounded by tall buildings of glass and steel? Even though they're blanks, that's where the sounds were recorded. Also, there's no rule that the camera must pan to an actor each and every time he reloads just so the gun nuts can feel satisfied. Sorry.

  • Best action ever...about time someone kicked the cops ass'

Cops really would shit a brick if they were to be put on the defense against bad ass mutha's like this who weren't impressed by the badge or thought of prison. A+ movie! Val was king.

  • Love the sound!

  • great movie, great scene, great sound, i want more of this kinda movies

  • Hollywood would learn A LOT from this scene -- shame that most movie shootouts can't be as intense as this.

  • "north" hollywood shoulda/coulda learnd somthing from this scene - i think the guys that pulled that bank job watched this a few 2 many times.

  • if you like this scene you might like a couple of games on the x box 360 Rainbow 6 vegas and Vegas 2, also grand theft auto 4 has a mission that is reminiscent(however you spell it) of this. very intense and sound great if you have good speakers although I dont recommend x-box live for them, hard to feel studdley in a shoot out if you keep getting pwned by an 8yr old.

  • Best movie shootout scene ever.

  • Did anyone notice there rear view mirror fell off twice in the beginning.

  • LOL!

  • Of all the guys (one girl perhaps) who claim that this whole scene is bad, not good or done improperly. Let me ask you: did you serve time in the military? US, British or elsewhere? Does not matter. Do you have proper training in combat. How can this be a bad scene. Anyone who has been to battle knows that the "plan" is partially non-functional after the first shot. :)

  • Overall, a good day in LA!

  • they used andy mcnab from the bravo two zero mission to train the actors in how to use weapons properly and fight!! kool eh?!

  • to everyone who says this has horrible firepower, and had no plans, the shootout was unintentional- they didnt know that the police were right out there. so yes this was a great scene.

  • Is it just me or does Val Kilmer seem to fire close to 100 rounds before reloading?

  • i was thinking the same actually.

  • 6 stars

  • I swere firing 2 automatic short barrel rifles inside a car with the windows up would defently make you're ears bleed.

  • fucking flaggers. NICE TRANSFER!

  • Actually, this happens in Texas on a daily basis. Wierd.

  • oh yeah... pause at 3.41 and you'll notice that the bullet holes on the rear door of the patrol car are WAAAAYY too huge for 5.56mm (.223) rounds to cause.. add in the fact that they're carbines with lower muzzle velocity compared to a full-length assault rifle.. Alright, it IS hollywood, but still, the realism and sheer carnage is worth it.. (BTW, i've only seen .50cal capable of putting holes like that)

  • That is ugly firepower. This is where those two moron brothers that had that huge shootout in L.A. got the idea. That had no exit plan.... both dead, I believe.

  • yes ugly firepower in this moive , the men who robbed the bank in L.A. had body amour , Ak-47 with AP rounds ,1 G3 rifle Ap rounds

  • but thankfully, they got horible marksmanship.. 1100 rounds fired with no police KIA's.. they fired most of their rounds on full-auto with no good aim stances..

  • oh i'm referring to the 2 north hollywood bank robbers btw, not the characters in heat

  • yea but alot of cops were wounded baddly

  • Having served in the army myself, I have to truly commend Val's reloading of his colt (xm1773 or commando?) from 2.02 to 2.06.. Goes into a safe crouching position, swapping the mag, and slapping in the bolt all in 4 seconds flat. It's fast even by an experienced soldier's standards.. Kudos for realism and grittiness..

  • he's right 4 seconds is really fast, it takes me about half a minute to load a .117 daisy rifle and sometimes i jam the gun

  • cool action scene, not the GREATEST or BEST

they should of made the bad guys win

  • they did?

Who was the bad guy's in your eye's.nuff said

  • al pacino XD

  • He "won" in the end. ^^

  • What where the cops firing, BLANKS ??????

  • yes they all was,It was filmed on mothers day

live.Down time LA,and all the tourist picked the empty blanks up.

Has it says on the collectors DVD,but i know what you mean about the 5-0,ps its a film lol

  • bullets flying...

    michael mann is the man

    (manhunter,heat,collateral,insider...)

  • 0:20 and 2:32

    Al Pacino is the best!!!!!

  • Three Leaf Clover from GTA4 :D

  • pause at 4:26 and just have a look at how intense de niro is.

  • that's just awesome, nuff said

  • One of the best action scenes in the world....

  • Man look at val Kilmer at 1:54-2:02 he looks so intense you can see the adrenalin in him this is hands down the greatest shooting scene that I have ever seen (.)

  • its a similarity of d Bank of America shootout in Hollywood years back.. lol

  • not just a similarity, those robbers actually got inspired by this very shootout

  • LOL. Just LOL. I love how the robbers are absolute crack shots even with 1 arm and nobody can hit them except by luck. Police just falling out from behind cars shot down like nothing and the robbers standing out from behind cover untouched.

Also while there is a little reloading, the amount of rounds being spent vs the reloads is still a bit silly.

I did however like the lack of music and focus on the action as well as the more visceral feel of it.

  • It's movie 101.

Although I don't think that clicked with the North Hollywood Shooters

  • Go watch this on a big screen with surround sound instead of YouTube and even you will understand why this is the best shootout scene ever put on film.

  • This is Michael Mann's BEST film.

  • I think this how the guys from North Hollywood shootout got their idea...

  • Realism is so much better than this stupied Matrix bullshit. This and The Way of The Gun Shootouts are awsome

  • Definitely one of the best shootouts in modern cinema.

  • Nice.

  • you'd think movies of recent times with shootouts would try to at least emulate the brilliance of this scene, but yet they dont, or cant. The lack of music, the incredible penetrating gun sounds, and to think it was filmed in 1995 when they didnt have as advanced technology as today, and yet this scene still KILLS anything ive scene this decade easily.

  • i fully agree bud..when i first saw this film it blew me away..robbery scene pisses over anything before or after..no cgi either.hollywood should take note..the music is incredible..did you know that ANDY MCNABB did this scene or rather showed them how to make it look realistic. ive seen a picture with him and al pacino on set..there is also a dvd out with an alternative ending..which is good because i could never watch the end..you cant kill de niro.lol

  • The film's a 15 yet you have to be 18 to view this...Rrrright.

  • Best scene ever! i love the sound!, thank you for uploading!

  • aint nothing like M Mann action.

  • That statement is open to interpretation.

  • the matrix reloaded shootout was not bad.

  • Yeah one of the best scene in cinema history....And an unbelievable Al Pacino and Robert de Niro...This guys can play every character

  • Epic scene. Love the sound!

  • The getaway driver is David Palmer from 24.

  • and from the ALL STATE insurance commercials!

  • good god just let them have the money. fuk.

  • It doesn't look like the actors had any firearms training prior to shooting (if you'll excuse the expression) this movie, but so much shit gets shot up it doesn't really bother me.

  • Actually they did, they were trained by an ex SAS member named Andy McNab. A spectacular gun battle were a lot of shit gets shot up would certainly keep audiences more entertained than one were they're spend half of it seeking cover and checking their targets.

  • got to be the best shoot out of all time!!!!!

  • and the one from Resevior Dogs was good too!

  • This movie is owesome and Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are the best of the best.

  • hehehe I think you are just fucking around.

  • pure bulshit. In this situation cops would be thinking, shitt, they dont pay me enough to get killed lolol.

  • How can anyone say there were no reloads in the scene. There has to be at least 4 reloads in this video.

  • this is a lot like the bank robbery from gta 4.

  • except this came out way before GTA IV. i'm pretty sure some elements from the irish bank mission in GTA IV came from this gunfight

  • Now you know where GTA face-lifted alot of the stuff for their games....

  • Yeah, but they lifted it good :D Bitch of a mission though.

  • How come Al Pacino's always in the best shootouts?

  • because wes think val was dead and he goes for michael cheritto and he leave neil(de niro) alone to help val

  • After Wes Studi shoots Val, why doesn't he just go on and shoot De Niro also. He was in a perfect position behind the column and DeNiro even had his back to him. Wes just runs off. The movie could have ended right there like in real life.

  • La mejor pelicula que he visto de Alpacino y Rober de Niro...

  • No recoil...the only thing they cant simulate properly in a movie but what a fantastic fuckin' scene though! You'd be deaf after a shootout like that! :)

  • Anyone know where i can find any commentary or how this scene was made. Cos this is an awsome scene.

  • The new DVD has director's commentary and stuff. It should be on there.

The main thing is that there in no music, thus it is "real"

  • This scene is awesome and the most realistic shootout I have seen in a movie besides Saving Private Ryan.

  • There's nothing so cool than that of seeing DeNiro with an automatic weapon, this ranks up there with his scene in The Deer Hunter right after he puts a flamethrower on "Mr. Charles"!

  • How fucking cool is this scene?

  • dont get hung up on them reloading which they all do btw. listen to them acoustics from the gun fire it sounds like a real war zone! the dvd extras state this is showin in the military 4 realism! sit back and enjoy

  • FIrst time I saw this was on a 52" sony bravia at my friends house.

    Holy shit.

  • That was sarcasm pointed at the critics of this scene... ;p

  • hehe, its weird seeing Al Pacino as the 'good guy' for once.

  • OMG THEY NEVER RELOAD LOL...its a movie, they didnt film it so you could watch them each reload 5+ times...

  • You didnt see the blond guy reload?

  • im pretty sure the developers of GTAIV based their bank robbery mission on this movie, very similar.

    such a badass street shootout!

  • Yes. Three Leaf Clover. I saved before the mission so that I can redo it thousands of times.

  • What is so badass about this, is that this shootout sounds exactly like it. Good job Michael Mann. Now hiring, the LAPD.

  • best quality ive seen from all the other rip offs

  • amazing vid!

  • This definitly looks like that one GTA IV mission. It ruled. Kane and Lynch was a very bad game.

  • they had to AT LEAST get a 3 star shooting at those cops

  • to everyone commenting about how often they reload:

would you rather have the movie show you every time EVERYONE reloads? yeah that would be much more entertaining than seeing them actually firing rounds.

oh look he's reloading again, awesome!!!!

  • Agree 100%

  • Realism comes with reloading. Fuck you.

  • They also didn't show Lauren slice her arteries. How will we ever know that it didn't magically happen on its own? Good pacing in a movie comes from things that are implied, especially in a fast paced shootout. Fuck you.

  • GTA IV? Um more like Kane & Lynch.

  • This scene is amazing. All time greatest shootout scene for sure. It kicks ass on surround sound.

  • Just an amazing scene!

  • Standard British Special Forces (SOP) Take the fight to those who would fight you. Ex SAS members set this scene up.

  • They were'nt trying to kill knowone, they just laid down some heavy covering fire to escape.

  • lol this IS GTA IV...lol also this is the movie that the bank robbers in north hollywood had in ther VCR before they went and did they're hyst

  • thats absolutely right. really wish those hollywood heisters (excuse spelling) didnt mess up so much. lol. 5 star movie

  • This is GTA IV !!!!!!!!

  • One of the best shoot outs ever.

  • um how did AL and the black cop his partner get along side the car to shoot the driver? they were behind it about 150 ft at the start of this? then they drove away no way they could do that? Am I wrong? Thats what it looks like to me.

  • tis is Mexico? Tijuana? i saw the news last week was like this

  • ANYONE KNOW ANDY MCNAB?!

Well he was there on set as a technical weapons advisor assisting for this movie.

  • Love the part when Val Kilmer jumps out of the car and starts blasting.

  • pwnage

  • EPIC

  • This scene is great. The gunshots sound so real, it sounds like a warzone.

  • #cough kane and lynch cough# lol

  • Just played Three leak clover, and Heat is one of my favorite movie ever. What a mission!!!

And also the moment like Point break is cool.

  • WTF how does al pacino catch up to robert daniro when he was in a fuckin car they at least drove like 4 blockes before the black guy died, is pacino that fast?

  • why cant he just be called the driver?

  • this scene goes so well to the song clocks and no surprises by radio head oddly enough. Oh GTA 4 had clear inspiration from dis and I think a little bit of pulp fiction. Too bad there aren't many russian mafia movies to watch to get pumped for da game

  • GTA IV... Three Leaf Clover, Is it just coincidence or... lol

  • yea that shit was crazy

  • Exactly like GTA IV, Three Leaf Clover.

Good observations! I thought I was the only one that noticed!

    Awesome mission!

  • yeah awesome mission and awesome movie too... one of my favorites

  • Awesome shoot out scene

  • 2:04-val kilmer finally reloads...lol

  • haha
