  • I love you Canada!!

  • Holy Shit. It's John Candy!

  • I love how pissed he looks at the dad for having the hotdogs right there.

  • I love this skit but Babe Ruth wore 3.

  • Seinfeld didn't have a similar bit far as I remember, but the Kids in the Hall had a great sketch with Joe the baseball champ hitting a home run for a Dying Kid. Look up Kids in the Hall Censored Sketches.

  • @klrietmann Seinfeld has a somewhat similar bit.

  • I'll STAND ON YOUR HEAD!!!

  • Seinfeld ripped this off big time

  • I GOTTA GO EH??????

  • SCTV rocked!

  • That's not Babe Ruth! It's Lou Gehrig!

  • WOW...eH canaduan time machine....

    NOT precidented

  • ...now do a cartwheel...don't stop eating...now stand on your head. I'LL STAND ON YOUR HEAD!!! (SCREEEEECCCCH!!!!) OMG, since like 1978 or so I have been fractured by the Babe Ruth story, SCTV style...love how Babe (J.C.) is wearing Lou Gerhig's number 4...artistic license at its best!

  • The first part is not funny, but the Baby Ruth Story is. Second City had some classics. Just not Great White North. Sorry.

  • That 50 hot dogs bit has been something I've recalled with a chuckle for many years. Thanks for posting.

  • its obvious dat the kids a dodgers fan. if u think im wrong, look behind john candy

  • Oh Jeez, now I have to go, eh?

  • take off eh! lol

  • 4:19- the look of terror and the scream coming out of that kid is priceless! I wonder if he knew John Candy was going to pounce.

  • Bubbles ricky and Julian are their kids. Eh.

Duh. Eh. I said EH. eh.

  • these guys were cool, eh?

  • For us jersey nerds - Candy's playing Ruth but he has a #4 Jersey on - that's Gehrig's number. :-)

  • @forkhead - SCTV was apparently poking fun at the historical inaccuracies of the many Hollywood biopics made over the years.

  • I love how Bob is like "I don't know how it goes eh". They've been doin The Great White North for like years, eh? what a hosehead!

  • The brat finally got what he deserved. =D

  • who cares whether or not he had the right number on...what was that doctor trying to inject him with???? LOL

  • Funny Canucks.

  • yeah, HA HA HA BABE RUTH has the WRONG NUMBER on. In real life he's #3

  • I learned everything I know about Canadian culture from these two, and Trailer Park Boys.

  • Pisser Of An Ending!

  • Weeehoooo, I live close by the McKenzie brothers.

  • @MorbidReligion u mean the actors, right?

  • R.I.P John Candy i miss you!

  • This is an idea I've seen variations on many times and never laughed....

    ...Until Now :p

  • ruth was 3 gehrig was number 4

  • @beaverpitt I'm Pissing My pants Conceptual Flaw And All

  • I'd love to know exactly what that little kid is sick with; he certainly has wild demands to help him get well!

  • B.T.W., anyone remember the first-season ad parody run on "SCTV" where Candy played Babe Ruth hawking an LP record, "Stan Musial's Greatest Hits."

  • I knew dudes like this in high school in northern Ontario. Wore hunting boots to school, boasted about moose kills, etc.

  • Funny. Thanks.

  • Classic!!

  • The crazy thing about that Babe Ruth Story is that it was better than the two feature films about Babe Ruth, lol

  • man they copied this in Baseketball (try parker and mat stone's movie)

  • ROFL

  • that babe ruth skit...recently got sctv for xmas...plyed it for the family...20 people almost peeing in their pants...doesn't get better than that...

  • Classic! xD Why can't new comedians take after these legendary people?

  • Because the audience has the attention span of a chimp, now.

  • @Skithien Because they like to be dirty mouthed like no talents like Chris Rock.

  • @JR08620: Excuse me, you've probably NEVER heard any of Chris Rock's skits (like 'How To Deal With The Police', 'The Malls That White People Used To Go To', etc.)-until you have, you can't say jack about him or how 'dirty' he is.

  • @Skithien They were unique in their way and they cannot be copied! Same thing with Benny Hill! RIP Benny!

  • Note that the kid has a Brooklyn Dodger pennant.

  • I caught the Brooklyn penant on the wall as well. Notice that while Candy is supposed 2 b the Babe, he's wearing the #4 on his Yankees jersey.

  • I am embarrassed to say I neglected to notice that. You were paying attention to detail; I certainly wasn't. It's Gehrig - well spotted.

But I ignored the pennant as well! Shame on me!

That changes the whole sketch! Now Candy's Ruth appears too dumb to observe he was being made to look like a jackass by a prankster kid who was really a Dodger fan. Though I still wonder whether this was intentional humor or the pennant was another inconsistency like the uniform that just happened to fit.

  • Hey, thanx 4 the kind words, Mister. I should've posted that 4 was Gehrig's jersey #; I just kind of assumed that most everybody would be aware of that. U have an interesting take on how that changes the thrust of the sketch as well, IMHO.

  • for all your analyzing, you're forgetting the main concept here: the sketch is a parody of a legendary scene from the 1942 movie "Pride of The Yankees" - the biopic about Gherig's life.

A sports fan but no movie buff.

  • A movie buff & a 10th degree blackbelt in the ancient art of Jumping To Conclusions as well. Maybe it's because I'm ENGLISH and not as fam. w/movies featuring AMERICAN sports as you might be?

  • Perhaps that's what makes some of these SCTV sketches so brilliant - they are genuinely funny on so many levels~

  • Too true, mate; I don't think that the writers got enough credit on this show.

  • To 'MisterEvasion': If you saw the original "Babe Ruth Story" film with William Bendix, there were so much inaccuracies that it pretty much qualified as total fiction. Having John Candy as Babe wear number 4 may have been deliberate, and "SCTV's" little commentary on the numerous licenses with the facts that biopics have taken over the years.

  • @TheLegendfamily - It seems that SCTV was trying to make their own commentary on the gross inaccuracies in many biopics over the years.

  • I figured that they were trying to work that into the sketch. I just didn't post it because I wasn't sure that people would follow what I was saying. But, good looking out on your part, wmbrown.

  • One of the very best Candy skits from sctv.

"Eat 50 hot dogs, spin around, hold leg...!!!" hahahaha....

  • I never get tired of that sick kid Babe Ruth is trying to cheer up, and how the kid keeps increasing his demands. The hot dog bit is the topper, that's one sick little boy!

  • My mom and I have been looking for this forEVER ("the babe ruth story")! :)

     Thank you for uploading it.

  • LMAO!!!!!!!! Great clip!!!

  • I'll stand on YOUR head!

  • Who cares what number he wore. This is great comedy!

  • by the way, ruth wore number 3, not 4. 4 was gehrig's number.
