I like the humor, there are vids of the song from Pete solo and The Who. This song as he says defines the Internet LONG before it came to the public's attention, though the Network of computers was in development in the 60s
It was on his Lifehouse Chronicles boxset. There's recorded songs for the first two discs, operatic stuff for maybe two more, then the Lifehouse radio play on two more discs and the last one has live audio...
I think. XD If you like the songs from Lifehouse and want to learn more, it's a good one. But some of the stuff is a bit anemic. It's not the Who, and it's not Pete in his solo prime either. But, it's an interesting insight.
This song is a sadly forgotten gem. A song written in 1971 about the internet - 25 years later the world started to catch up with Pete Townshend. He's always been so far ahead of his time on so many levels. I don't think there's ever been anyone in music with such creative vision. If there is such a thing as genius, it's Pete Townshend.
it is, but this is prerecorded. they use it at every who concert when they perform this. initially they used a tape back in 1972 but when they revisited it in 1979 they used a wah wah pedal and for the past 9 years they've used a tape again (though a slightly different version than the one they used in 72)
original it was fed through his arp 2600 i believe. the initial recording. if you buy the synth(set you back a couple grand) and have the proper knowledge to run your guitar through it, you can play alot of the early 70's who songs like this! (join together, the solo on going mobile, etc.)

@zed0469 Pete made a very good educated guess about the future :)

@Pulsar205 Not only of our times of the net, but where there's a 'grid' linking up our brains.
I'm not sure I like that future.

@zed0469 Pete had his vision of it anyway, part of the Lifehouse story he told much later. At the time, it was not complete.

I've got tickets to see them in April but I don't think I'll bother, I didn't know that Pete did the singing now.

You should go. Roger still sings. There still great at 60 something

Hahaha, bit of sarcasm there :) I've every intention of seeing 'em, I still like what they do live actually.

how does he get that synth part at the begining?
ZachValkyrie 3 years ago
That's him (or someone) using an effects pedal on a guitar. Other than that, I have no idea. That's just a guess anyway.

@ZachValkyrie He uses the original backing track. Just like with Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley
